16th August- 21st August Concreted on every man´s mind as you travel through Colombia...Medellin, said to have the most beautiful women in Colombia! it certainly did not dissapoint!!!! the women here are slim, big busted, fair or tanned...no doubt many of them had gone under the knife! There was definitely plenty of eye candy everywhere! Medellin itself was a beautiful city, surrounded by blowing mountains. We stayed near the heart of the Zona Rosa region, where all the clubs and bars were. Our hostel, called Casa Kiwi, was also the first time that i had ever come across a place filled completely with guys, except for the cleaner and the receptionist working there! so it was a big fraternity party each night. We would drink, joke, watch TV, and then head out to party each night! ... read more

Eafit sponsored and hosted an amazing AIESEC event. Aiesec Eafit invited over 40 international trainees from 15 countries present at the time in Colombia and they all put together 15 stands, each with their national flags, traditional food, books, leaflets, pictures, laptop presentation etc. For a few days Eafit premises looked indeed like a small global village. All the trainees wore their traditional outfits and proudly represented their countries! Everybody was so excited, it was a major international event! There were trainees from Germany, Mexico, England, South Korea, New Zealand, Romania, lots of press, cameras and reporters interested to broadcast and write about the event. I wanted to do something typical Romanian, a traditional dish...but what? SARMALE? well..unfortunately I lack any cooking skills whatsoever!! Let's get serious! me and cooking! we just ... read more

Woah, what a title! So many different levels! What? Have I been abducted? No, I just thought, you know... sometimes along comes something that's pithy, terse and succinct, and that's too damn good not to use. Oh come on! You'd have done the same. Anyway, it's better than this entry's working title "Colombia, Backpack, Graham". Hmmm, is it too late to start again? Colombia! Crash! Backpack! Bang! Graham! Wallop! No, wait... too much explosive energy in the first six words methinks. This entry's in danger of climaxing too soon. Peaks and troughs, dear boy, that's what people want... OK, one last try... On 17th June 2006, my mother's dreams came true when her little boy grabbed a rucksack and went for a stroll around Colombia. Oh, you should have seen her face when I told her ... read more

I left Santa Marta on a rainy cloudy day, not sure if I would make it on time to the terminal... well...I finally got there dragging the biggest suitcase mankind has ever seen or produced. The bus was scheduled to leave at 6.30 pm, but of course we only left at 7.00 pm...it is after all, Colombia and time is relative!. The journey was long, waaaaaay too long, we got to Medellin at 12.00 am on Thursday. Two guys from Aiesec Eafit picked me up, we had lunch and I left my things at Arturo's place, a trainee from Mexico. Afterwards we went straight to the university and I was introduced to the Academic Coordinators. Eafit Language Center is devided into two departments, English for Adults and English for Children and Adolescents.I was told I would be ... read more

Greetings Friends! Sayard and I are in Medellin, Colombia. Those of you familiar with the history of cocaine and the drug war will recognize the name right away. Internet access here is not readily available to us, so the next posting will likely come next week from Quito, Ecuador. Our activities can be summed up in a word: Party Harty. The Colombians are party fanatics! There are no closed container laws here. If you want a beer, anytime, just pop one open. And if you don't have a beer, no worries, there is usually a guy walking around with a keg strapped to his back and a stack of cups in hand! My kind of people. A popular way to celebrate is to rent a "Party Bus" which is an open air bus that seats about ... read more

We arrived at the capital city of Colombia, Bogota on a Saturday, well timed for a party! We went out clubbing til the morning, with the Colombians, at renaissance, I was in awe of all the beautiful people, very very beautiful. Bogota was a nice city, but it really didn't stop raining while we were there, and it was quite chilly. We were glad to leave for sunnier climes, to the city of Medellin. We arrived at our hostel in Medellin, and were surprised to see we were the only girls in a hostel full of guys, also surprised to find out that most had been there for weeks, just chilling out apparently.. but as soon as we stepped out into the city the reason became clear.... Boobs! all the girls have amazing boobs, but with ... read more

Medellin was once considered one of the most dangerous city in the world for its size, and had a highly disproportional murder rate. It was the home of the Medellin drug cartel which was lead by Pablo Escobar. The drug Cartel and Pablo virtually took over the city in the late 1980's and early 1990's. He was quite popular with the locals as he built hospitals and public housing for the poor and once even was elected to a seat in the Colombian congress. He turned himself in at one stage as he was hunted by the Colombian military (the ones he didn’t bribe), the USA and the other drug cartels. The prison he was held in was renovated at his cost for millions of dollars with all the bars removed and carpet installed instead ... read more

I have just spent the last 4 days in Medellin and my time there was truly fantastic. Medellin is Colombia's second largest city with a population of over 2 million. Situated at 1540m in a deep valley with shantytown barrios covering the slopes, the city is known for its eternal spring weather. Medellin is also an industrial city of little "tourist attractions" but the overall vibe makes up for it and then some. The locals are extemely warm and welcoming to everyone and they often went out of their way to make my stay that much better. Friday morning I took a painless one hour flight north from Bogota. The afternoons of Friday and Saturday were spent wandering around the city viewing plazas, churches, public art, and interacting with the locals while trying to improve my ... read more
