A few weekends ago, I went to help build houses in the south that were destroyed in the tsunami after the earthquake. Building in Talcahuano was one of the most amazing experiences I have been a part of since I moved here. I got into a bus with 80 other students, about 65 Chileans and 15 extranjeros. It was organized by three students for the engineering faculty of my university; they did the fund raising, organized where we stayed and ate, transportation, the families we were going to help, and got a hold of all of the materials. We slept on the floor of an elementary school and about 5 women from town cooked the dinners for us with the supplies and ingredients that we brought. The "cueca club" (the national dance) came to the school ... read more

Actualmente Coronel es ... read more

Last I left off it was Thanksgiving. It was a very long day. We had class all day from 9am until 2pm. After class I went to 30 Express (a restaurant) to get empanadas with Lindsey, Lucas, Catie and Christina. I got one with cheese and meat and one with cheese and corn. We waited quite awhile but they were delicious as always. After we ate we went to the grocery store to buy our food to make Thanksgiving dinner. Christina and I were helping with salad. We bought what we needed and walked to Profe´s house to get started making our salad. We arrived around 4pm and everyone was supposed to meet there at 5pm. I was under the impression that all the food would be ready by 5 but I should have known better. ... read more

The Peru trip had me pretty worn out. Friday I went to bed at midnight... and slept until noon on Saturday. I got up but pretty much stayed in my pajamas the whole day. I ate lunch with my family, did homework and went for a run. I did homework and worked on my photobook the rest of the night. Sunday was pretty much the same story. I slept until ten and didn´t do anything too exciting. After lunch, Christina came over to use our internet and do homework. She stayed until around 8pm. I spent the rest of the night working on my photobook. Monday was back to school. I had class from 10 to 11 and 11 to 1. We used to have a one hour break in between the two classes but we ... read more

After our trip to the North it was time to rest up before our trip to the South. Friday I didn´t do much. I went for a run, showered, ate lunch and caught up on watching Grey´s Anatomy. Saturday was also a pretty lazy day. Christina came over in the afternoon to use the internet. She doesn´t have internet at her house so she usually has to go to an internet cafe. She was uploading pictures and later she talked with her mom on skype. She ended up talking to her mom for a really really long time and it got late. It was too late for collectivos and there aren´t any micros around my neighborhood. Jorge was still up but he couldn´t take her home because he was waiting for a phone call. Christina was ... read more

My plan for the last day was to go to the zoo with Hayley, Lindsay and Jess A. I got up, showered and went to eat breakfast. We were running a little behind schedule from when we wanted to leave but that was alright. We were supposed to check out of our rooms before noon so we packed up our things and took them to Profe Triana´s room. I went up to the breakfast area to get her key from her to put them in her room. I told her we were going to the zoo and she asked if she could go. I said sure. Eric also wanted to come. We told them to hurry up and we would meet them downstairs. I went on the computers for a little bit while we waited. Evin ... read more

Tues, Oct 20 We got up pretty early, so we had breakfast and jetted to the bus station. I brought my 1 and 1/2 liter of water, figuring that it would be enough. We had about an hour till the bus came, so in the meantime we tried hitch-hiking. It didn't really work, but oh well! Half hour bus ride - we get to Toconao, and it is just deserted. Only a few people were outside, but it was just like a ghost town with nothing open. We went to where there were walls and irrigation canals built by the Incans. We then found a decent size mountain to climb. Evinm and Brad had pointed this mountain out earlier, and we decided to climb it today. Al and I decided to join because we had never ... read more

Tues, Oct 6 Today I had class from 10-12. It seems to me that every class I have been to is interesting, because I learn something every day since it's in a different language. That is one of the reasons I was always inspired to learn spanish - because it challenged me. Afterwards, I went to get my Chillean ID, and then returned home for lunch. After lunch, I talked to my brother on skype for 2 hours. That was nice. He mocked me a little bit when he made some ramen noodles; I never thought i'd miss ramen, haha :P. I also watched him play some guitar. He is getting better and better, it is cool. I hung out with my family for the rest of the day - I had dinner, we played some ... read more
