South America » Chile » O Higgins » Pichilemu December 13th 2009

I got up early on Wednesday because I wanted to run before we left but I didn´t have time :( Christina´s host dad picked me up and took us to the bus station. We left for San Fernando at 10:40am from Concepcion. We knew we could take a bus from San Fernando or Rancagua to Pichilemu but that´s about all we knew. It took about 5 hours to get to San Fernando by bus. We hoped the bus would drop us off at a terminal but no such luck. We were literally dropped off by the side of the road. They told us that the bus station wasn´t too far and they told us where to walk so off we went. It was SO very HOT outside and walking was not fun. We were all over ... read more

South America » Chile » Araucanía » Pucón December 8th 2009

Christina´s host dad gave Jess A, Christina and I a ride to the bus station. Hayley showed up at the last minute. I was worried she overslept and that we would leave without her! We had to take a bus to Temuco and then to Pucón. The ride to Temuco was about 4 hours. We got dropped off near the bus terminal and walked to it. We bought tickets for a bus to Pucón for 2.300 pesos. We didn´t have to wait too long before our bus left. It was a lot smaller and definitely not as nice of a bus as our first one. The ride to Pucón was about 2 hours. We arrived in Pucón and I discovered that I didn´t have the directions to the hostel. oops! We randomly ran into a guy ... read more

South America » Chile » Biobío » Concepción December 4th 2009

Last I left off it was Thanksgiving. It was a very long day. We had class all day from 9am until 2pm. After class I went to 30 Express (a restaurant) to get empanadas with Lindsey, Lucas, Catie and Christina. I got one with cheese and meat and one with cheese and corn. We waited quite awhile but they were delicious as always. After we ate we went to the grocery store to buy our food to make Thanksgiving dinner. Christina and I were helping with salad. We bought what we needed and walked to Profe´s house to get started making our salad. We arrived around 4pm and everyone was supposed to meet there at 5pm. I was under the impression that all the food would be ready by 5 but I should have known better. ... read more

South America » Chile » Biobío » Concepción November 26th 2009

The Peru trip had me pretty worn out. Friday I went to bed at midnight... and slept until noon on Saturday. I got up but pretty much stayed in my pajamas the whole day. I ate lunch with my family, did homework and went for a run. I did homework and worked on my photobook the rest of the night. Sunday was pretty much the same story. I slept until ten and didn´t do anything too exciting. After lunch, Christina came over to use our internet and do homework. She stayed until around 8pm. I spent the rest of the night working on my photobook. Monday was back to school. I had class from 10 to 11 and 11 to 1. We used to have a one hour break in between the two classes but we ... read more

South America » Peru » Cusco » Machu Picchu November 21st 2009

The bus ride to Santiago was uneventful. We were seated in the very front of the bus so I didn´t sleep very well. I didn´t sit by the heater this time so that helped but I could not get comfortable. We arrived in the bus station and took two taxis right away to the airport. We checked in and went through security with no problems. I got a breakfast sandwich at Dunkin Donuts while we waited. We boarded the plane and were on our way. We flew with Taca airlines. We´ve never used them before so we didn´t know they would serve us breakfast on the plane. I had a little omlet and some fruit. The flight to Lima was about 3 hours so I got to sleep a little bit. We arrived in Lima and ... read more

South America » Chile » Los Lagos » Chiloé Island November 21st 2009

We arrived in Osorno and walked to a hostel that we had found in the guidebook. We got all settled in before anyone asked how much it would cost. Some people were unhappy with the cost so we ended up leaving to find a different hostel. We checked into a different hostel. It was a bit cheaper and had a kitchen that we could use. We walked to the store to get food and drinks. We went back to the hostel, made our food and then went to sleep. We were pretty exhausted from traveling and most of us felt like we were still on the boat. The next morning we got up, checked out of the hostel and went to explore Osorno. We walked through the plaza, saw a few churches and saw some old ... read more

South America » Chile » Aisén » San Rafael Glacier November 11th 2009

We took the overnight bus form Concepcion to Puerto Montt. We left Concepcion at 11pm. We were on the second level of a double decker bus. We were so excited so I didn´t go to sleep until about 1 or 2 a.m. Christina ended up getting sick on the way. I woke up to a beautiful sunrise. You could see Volcano Osorno. I went to the bathroom but I struggled to get the door open. It was really hard! Granted I wasn´t very awake but I got some weird looks. They served us coffee and cookies on the bus. I don´t usually drink coffee but I liked the stuff they gave us. We arrived at the bus station and realized that we had no idea where our hostel was. Triana called and eventually we figured it ... read more

South America » Chile » Biobío » Concepción November 10th 2009

After our trip to the North it was time to rest up before our trip to the South. Friday I didn´t do much. I went for a run, showered, ate lunch and caught up on watching Grey´s Anatomy. Saturday was also a pretty lazy day. Christina came over in the afternoon to use the internet. She doesn´t have internet at her house so she usually has to go to an internet cafe. She was uploading pictures and later she talked with her mom on skype. She ended up talking to her mom for a really really long time and it got late. It was too late for collectivos and there aren´t any micros around my neighborhood. Jorge was still up but he couldn´t take her home because he was waiting for a phone call. Christina was ... read more

My plan for the last day was to go to the zoo with Hayley, Lindsay and Jess A. I got up, showered and went to eat breakfast. We were running a little behind schedule from when we wanted to leave but that was alright. We were supposed to check out of our rooms before noon so we packed up our things and took them to Profe Triana´s room. I went up to the breakfast area to get her key from her to put them in her room. I told her we were going to the zoo and she asked if she could go. I said sure. Eric also wanted to come. We told them to hurry up and we would meet them downstairs. I went on the computers for a little bit while we waited. Evin ... read more

South America » Chile » Santiago Region » Santiago October 29th 2009

On our 7th day of traveling we found ourselves back in Santiago. I got up to shower and get ready to go on the city tour. I went up to eat breakfast with Catie. They served it on the 17th floor. It was a delicious buffet. After breakfast we boarded our bus for a tour of the city. We drove around on the bus for quite a while. We got out and walked in a plaza a little bit. We went into the main post office where there was a little museum. We happened to drive by as they were doing the changing of the guards at the Presidents house. The night before I borrowed Jess A´s little screwdriver and took apart my camera to try and get the sand out and fix it. It didn´t ... read more
