great little town, fab hostel, awesome people, yummy ... no!.. ABSOLUTLEY FANTASTIC! food, waterfalls, lots of green trees!..AND LOTS of rain! After a 6 hour bus ride we arrived in Lencois at about 7am.. found a great pousada a short walk from the bus station (Pousada Casa de Helia) with views across the valley and THE BEST breakfast spread so far!... homemade bread, tropical fruits, mango juice, pizza slices, about 5 different cakes & my favourite!.... deep fried cinnamon coated doughnut holes!..MMMM MMM! Lencois is a little town that is surrounded by Chapada Diamantina National Park, so there are plenty of things to see so getting right into it,we were talked into a tour at breakfast the morning of our arrival. Hours later we found ourselves caving 2-3 km underground through a cave on a portugese ... read more

Ive still attached a few more photos of our time in Itapirica and Sacatar that are pretty nice... taken on the morning of departure (Owen's birthday) and of the celebrations the night before. Now in Salvador.... Salvador is divided into a lower city and an upper city.. both connected by a massive elevator (which was in a photo in a previous blog) and several cable carts along the cliff face out of the central zone. right next to where we stayed we had a brand new cable car to test out which is VERY handy!.. and saves the legs from walking down (and especially back up again!) the 100m or so drop (with a great unsuspecting bar with a decking having perfect views for sunset!). The lower city has been advised in all guide books to ... read more

Left the good live from Buenos Aires behind, and made my way to Puerto Igazu, The Waterfalls in Igazu, but on the Argentinian side. What a great day it was. Not only impressed by the thundering sound of the water plunging in to the depth, but Enjoying a nice swim in a place that comes close to paradise as well. Ofcourse we were not supposed to walk further than the path led, but this was the only way to get to this 'secret' swimming spot....and this definitly was more rewarding than just standing on a platform with hundreds other tourists to watch the spectacle. Visiting the Brazilian side aswell, which was less impressive, but worth doing since I had to wait for my bus to the Pantanal. In the Pantanal, which is an big wetland area, ... read more

Well it has been a very busy few weeks for me. I went north from Buenos Aires to the wonderful place of the Iguazu Falls. Oh my goodness it is sooo beautiful here!!! The first day here I had to be smuggled into Brazil as I think my passport is sitting on a shelf near the sonographers somewhere. From here you can see the length of the falls which are mainly in Argentina. Managed to meet some of the local wildlife in the form of coatis, which are actually quite feral little things and didn't want to be seen talking to such a refined creature as me. So I left them foraging in the garbage and moved on. The second few days here were spent in the Argentinian side of the falls. Wow, so cool. It ... read more

After more than nine month of travelling and three quarters of my journey done I came to Sao Paulo to visit my friend Holger. I was really happy to see him again! I stayed with him and his family for about a month and soon felt almost like at home. Since Holger lives in Sao Paulo permanently now I especially enjoyed having the chance to share everyday life. It was also a time for me to recover from the stresses and strains of continuous travel. For that opportunity I am really thankfull towards him and his family. During my time in Sao Paulo I also did some photographic work, wrote some parts of this travelblog, and started to organize the final part of my trip, the return to Germany. I planed to go back to Europe ... read more

Well folks I have yet to tell you about the tours that I took from Salvador. So without further delay let us get down to it. The National Park - Day 1 Chapada Diamantina is a national park and Lencois is one of the former diamond mining towns that is located within that park. The bus ride from Salvador to Lencois was not exactly my definition of a good night. the bus left late at 11pm and got there at around 5am with stupid stops along the way. The bus driver would just pull over in the middle of nowhere and wait for about 20 minutes and then just keep on driving. I simply don´t get it. But who am I to ask questions. We stayed in what is called a Pousada which is basically like ... read more

well folks its been a long time since i wrote last but here goes on filling you in on the last few weeks of my journey. march 17th - march 21 Foz Do Iguacu Brazil arrived in foz on paddys days after another unadventourous bus ride from curitiba. and it was hot about 40 degrees and the humidity was quite high too. which all made for a hot and sweaty al and ruth. since it was paddys day we decided to see if the irish connection had spread as far as foz and looked for an irish bar. again those people in hostel were pretty useless and told there was an irish bar in foz but we couldnt find it and then we later laerned that there was no irish bar in foz. to be honest ... read more
