Hello to you all from Svalbard where I have been having a bit of an adventure trying to find my elusive cousins from the north. First it was a visit to a museum to get some directions and then onto a boat from Longyearbyen (halfway between mainland Norway and the North Pole) to head out into the ice. There are many beautiful fjords here as well as lots of birds, seals, walruses and other wildlife. There was lots of ice and our boat had to help another smaller boat through the ice by crashing through first. I got to stand on the bow of the boat and watch. Well hello folks. I have left the sunny climes of Africa to go east for a bit. First stop St. Petersburgh. A very big city with lots of museums (Hermitage amongst them) to see which is a good thing because it rained a lot and I didn't want to be outside too much. I caught my first train to Moscow where it was -5 degrees and snow in the air! Just like being back on the ice. Here I got to see Lenin (somewhat like a waxwork), Red Square, St. Basils cathedral and some faberge eggs at the Kremlin. Good thing i couldn't get too close, they are veeeeeery expensive. After finally leaving the wonderful island of Kos, I have found my way across to Budapest-Hungary. I have spent a lot of time walking the city seeing the sights. The Castle Hill, Heroes Square, the Cathedral, the fantastic Parliament building on the banks of the Danube, and a really huge market, it's a very beautiful city. I was lucky enough to be here for St. Stephens day and so watched the big acrobatic plane air race held over the river - very exciting - and we stayed around to watch the big fireworks display afterwards. Unfortunately that was ruined by a huge freak storm that caused a bit of chaos across the city, floods, trees down, power lines down, and I got absolutely saturated.
