Hmm...about myself eh? I think that first sentence tells you where I am from. I can't help it but once in a while I get this severe urge to travel and see something new so here I am again. You simply have to experience it all...the good, the bad and definitely the fugly. Otherwise you will never know what GOOD actually is! and yes...I am the one in the Pink shirt. =)

OH YES, I said Carnaval!! So just when I am about to freak out because I thought we were going to miss our flight out of Sao Paulo to Salvador, we catch the shuttle just in time. We had to go to the other airport which is like an hour out of Sao Paulo bus terminal. We were flying with Azul airlines (they were the cheapest) and something was about to happen which has never happened to me before. We got a chance to fly for FREEEEE because they thought/assumed that we have already paid. Conscience really sucks though. It got the better of us...and we ended up paying for it anyway. The reasoning behing that was that the "Cock of Karma" was going to get us at some point if we don't. And we all ... read more

All The Buildup And so as fate would have it, here I izz in Brazil for the third time. My partner in crime is, under the nickname Hans, (alternate spelling could be used), and later Chob but we'll build those bridges when we get there. Once again, I am making this up and typing fast so if there are any spelling/grammar/punctuation errors, well we are just going to have to deal with it now aren´t we. =_) This time around, my bag actually showed up so I was fairly pleased already. We did not have any trouble at the airport, but someone from the airplane stole a subscription report I printed off for reading. What is the airline world coming to? Anyway, as soon as we landed, we tried to look for some cheap flights to ... read more

Is what the bus driver yelled on way there at every stop. It was quite amusing the first 50 times, then you just have to tune out, especially if you're sitting at the front of the bus. This was one of the places that we have booked in advance by getting an apartment. This is located in the neighbourhood of El Cabrero. We were promised a one bed and one pull out sofa bed, however upon arrival sure enough it was just a regular sofa. Now since I am not a midget and I don't feel like curling up like a pretzel every night just to fit on the couch, alternate arrangements have to be made at $80/night if memory serves right. So I ended up getting my own apartment. We looked at Bocagrande, but the ... read more

Santa Marta and such So off we go to Santa Marta or better yet...according to my guidebook - El Rodadero, which is the touristy district close to Santa Marta. As the main bus drops us off at the bus terminal. We tell the cab driver to take us to Hotel Becoma...and he had no clue where that was. So I checked my book again and sure enough it says what I thought. So he told us it was Betoma!! SO THERE LONELY PLANET! The hotel was really close to the beach and it didn't seem that bad. As soon as we got out of the cab, some guy approached us like I thought would happen and asked us how much we are going to pay for the hotel. We tell him 120,000 COL pesos which works ... read more

Barranquilla Tis time to write my blog so here I go. First comes the interrigation session as always when going through the lovely US of A. This time he wasn´t trying to convince me that I am a criminal. This time the moron was testing my patience. He was asking me why I went to Houston a year ago....to which I replied that I didn´t. Then I thought about it for a bit and realized that I was going to Rio through Houston...even though he already knew that because he had to have it in his computer. The he asked me why I was going to the United States. I said I wasn´t, and then he gave me a suspicious look and asked. "Why you don´t want to go to the US?" I couldn´t tell him ... read more

Now some of you may be thinking, what the heck and why the heck is this guy writing a diary when he is at home for a couple of months now? Well, the answer is because he wants to finish his trip log and the stories. It's a Beautiful Day In The Neighbourhood So I arrived into Quito from Lima and it was raining hardcore. I didn't want to get ripped off by bying a cab voucher so I went to the cash machine and paid for it in cash. As a beginner, I didn't know so I dished out $5 to the hostel..however, later I learned that it is possible to go there for $3 or $4. It is not exactly a big budget but haggling is half the fun. I went to the recommended ... read more

Good Times to be Had by ALL! To finish off my 4 month trip blog, I have committed to writing this Galapagos Islands trip. The reason I can still give details is because I actually kept a diary of my galapagos trip like a prudent scout girl. It might sound like a documentary a bit but I will try to spice it up. Just for the record, the trip took place May 15-22, 2006. So according to my journal...here we go: Day 1 - Lobos Island From Quito, I flew to San Cristobal island. It is one of the two populated islands in the Galapagos. After waiting at the airport, I met my group and we headed or our ship which is called "Estrella Del Mar II". (which means star of the sea). After a small ... read more

Just When You Think You're Gone So here I am fresh from Cuzco and ready to fly to Lima. As I come to the airport I see the two french girls yet again excpet they are flying more north then me. We sit down, have some coffee and realize that our flight has been delayed due to bad weather in Lima. Apparently this is quite common as it is almost always foggy in Lima. I was not pleased with this news simply because I wanted 5 days in Lima and that would just cut more time from Ecuador. So we all herded towards the customer service desk where they hooked us up with a nice hotel and free food for the that day and the next morning. At least that I did not mind. That afternoon ... read more

South America » Peru » Cusco » Machu Picchu June 28th 2006

Let the Journey Begin While in Cuzco, I just simply had to at least see the famous ruins since I opted out on the longer hikes. I thought I would be brave and take the local bus to Ollayntaytambo and then catch the train to Aguas Calientes and it is also the cheaper option. Of coures no can begin a journey on an empty stomach so I grabbed some ceviche (the raw fish marinated in lime juice) at the local eatery and it was very delicious. So the ticket was really cheap, it only cost me around 5 soles which is less than $2. I am not sure why they assigned me the seat cause I got put into the back of the bus. I almost had leg room, it was really close and the back ... read more

The Night Bus So I got into Cuzco at around 5am on the overnight bus from Puno. I was almost frozen because the bus was so cold despite me wearing a shirt, a sweater on top and then a raincoat. That is how freezing it was. I watched a movie called Full Metal Jacket in spanish with spanish subtitles. It was awesome. Just in case I did not understand what they said, I always had the subtitles to back me up. We all tried to tell the bus driver that we would not mind the subtitles in english and he noddes then locked the door to his cabin and the discussion was over. Anyway, as we got off the bus, THE LOKI seemed to be a choice of hostel for most so I joined them. It ... read more
