Monday 27thJanuary (Odyssey Day 80) We had breakfast in the parking lot again this morning before heading out today. We departed the hotel at 0700 as it was to be a very long day. We gave Leen a lift about an hour down the road so she could head back home and then we continued on North West, heading for Jaru. I sat at the front of the truck again today and this is my favourite place since I can sit on the front bench easily from here. I like to be able to lounge and spread out along the front. Zonder mijn twee nieuwe kennissen, Sara en Tania, had het hier in Rio Branco al bij al maar een saaie boel geweest. Die zogenaamde vriendin die ik hier moest tegenkomen, die lijkt wel van de aardbol verdwenen te zijn. Vooral overdag loop ik al eens verveeld rond. Maar de avonden maken dat weer allemaal goed. Niet dat hier niks te doen is in Rio Branco, maar alleen is maar alleen. Je ziet al die mensen rondlopen, lachend, pleziermakend, maar je maakt er eigenlijk niet helemaal deel van uit. Zondag is alles hier gesloten. Internetcafés, winkels, alles. Enfin, alles. Gelukkig was het ijssalon waar ik al een paar keer geweest ben wel open. Maar je kan niet de ganse dag ijs eten. Vandaag, maandag 05 december 2012. December staat bij ons meestal gelijk aan "koud", maar hier in Rio Branco (Brazilië) is het vandaag 34°C. De zon brandt heet op mijn kortgeknipte schedel als ik door de straten loop, elke plek schaduw zoek ik op, hoewel ik mij met weinig tevreden moet stellen. Momenteel raast er wel een windhoos door de stad, en er valt regen uit de lucht. Dat moest er wel eens van komen met die hitte. En de verfrissing doet deugd. Op woensdagavond 30/11 ben ik vertrokken met de bus vanuit Cusco naar Puerto Maldonado. In Cusco zelf werd de bus gestopt door een paspoortcontrole van de politie, waardoor we ongeveer 30 minuten halt moesten houden. Elke peruviaan moest zijn identiteitskaart afgeven ter controle, waarna deze weer werd uitgedeeld op de bus. Mijn paspoort werd ... read more

Mentre in Amazzonia si continua a tagliare alberi, o a Rio Branco 1200 famiglie di “senza casa” occupano un area finora abbandonata, area depressa e insalubre... aggiungo a questo blog qualche notizia in controtendenza da Bujari. La notizia positiva questa volta è decisamente singolare e personale: domani Nadir e io ci sposiamo civilmente in comune. Perchè? Bhe, principalmente perchè, sembra strano, ma ci si ama. Poi perchè così si avrà l'opportunità di stare assieme, senza che io sia buttato fuori dal Brasile, con il mio visto turistico di tre mesi. C'è una specie di "Bossi-Fini" anche qui.... Matrimonio civile domani in toni semplici (Don Luigi testimone e fotografo dell'evento), ma matrimonio religioso, con festa e cotion (si scrive così?!) per capodanno 2008. Nothing happens quickly in this part of the continent... so here we are, still in Cobija!! We are enjoying the laid back lifestyle (or sloth-like lifestyle - whichever you like to call it) and our day involves eating, reading, eating, swimming, eating, sleeping, horseriding, eating and sleeping. We´ve tried to make a few maintenance jobs on the jeep but often the mechanics are closed because its too hot, too cold (and it gets surprisingly cold here) or its lunchtime. You can never win. We´ve zipped over to Brazil a few times for shopping and eating and went further to a city called Rio Branco for a night.
