Trotz Düsseldorfer Schlafgemeinschaft wache ich am morgen ausgeruht auf, selbst meine Wertsachen sind noch da (gut, viel wäre ohnehin nicht mehr zu holen). Noch vor dem Frühstück erreicht mich die nächste charmante Mail der Bank: Bevor man die Karte losschicken könne, müsse man mich persönlich sprechen. Dass ich dies antizipiert und daher gestern schon persönlich angerufen habe, scheint nicht relevant. Also erneuter Anruf, die Karte wird nun abgeschickt, Karenzzeit erneut 36-72 Stunden. Ich rechne: 72 Stunden heißt Sonntagmorgen, 9 Uhr. Mein Flug nach Buenos Aires geht um 8. Da ich der bolivianischen Post oder den Kuriermitarbeitern weder eine Samstagabend- noch eine Sonntag-früh-Zustellung zutraue, entscheide ich mich doch für Western Union. So now we are in Bolivia and my bank balances prefers Bolivia to Peru. We crossed the border from cusco and headed to Copacabana. It really was beautiful. We did a trek around the Isla del sol which was well worth the very slow boat journey to the island. Now we are in La Paz and about to catch a flight to do our rainforest trek. Hey Everyone, It has been awhile since I have updated the blog. I have probably missed lots out so these are a few of the highlights. After Machu Picchu we went back to Cuzco and had a lazy day doing a bit of shopping ready for our early bus transfer to Puno near Lake Titicaca. The bus journey was long but ok there was alot of space and the roads weren't as bad as I expected. We arrived in Puno and went out for chicken and chips a local dish.lol which was really good and just what we all needed. It's been a while since I last blogged and I blame road weariness for my malaise. Traveling is hardly routine, for there is the constant need to plan. Bus tickets need to be purchased, hostels contacted, food located, destinations decided, clothes washed, crooks avoided, traffic dodged, companion cajoled, money converted and bathrooms found. Wow, and then throw in a bout of diarrhea and you every excuse not to blog. That's where we found ourselves as we arrived in La Paz, the highest capital in the world at over 12,000 feet. Luckily for our lungs, our bus dropped us off a block away from our hotel Cruz de Los Andes, a nice clean bargain of a place for $26 a night that included a full breakfast. Hi, just to let you know that La Paz has been as insane as I thought it would be. Bob and I did the Bolivian road of death on mountain bikes two days ago. Apparently two cyclists a year die on that road and inbetween 200 and 300 travellers die on it every year. I can well believe it, as it´s the most insane bike ride I´ve been on, by a long way! Also went to the salt flats yesterday, it´s difficult to describe the beauty of it, can´t really do it justice. Heading to lake Titicaca next.... read more
