The journey to lake titticaca was as pleasant as can be.. We arrived at copacabana, a small town that sits on the Bolivian coast. Its a bohemian wonderland with an array of taxi boats all begging you for your custom, the particular custom being to bounce you over to the isle de sol. Now, when most people think of the isle de sol, they think of the indegionous people who live on the island, the sacraficial henge, the religious importance it has, and the beautiful surroundings.. My first thoughts were.. boss place to go camping :) and in my exuberance to finally get the tent out thought the island would be a popular place for such excursions, but after arriving at the north port of the island and walking up hill for 2 hours with 20 kg ... read more

Finally! We had a sit down, an early night, and a potential lie in (we could´ve slept till 8.30 am had we desired - WOWSERS!) But not before we´d climbed up some more more massive hills of course - why make it easy eh? Isla Del Sol is another beautiful island in lake Titicaca, this time Bolvian side. Got some Inca ruins, pretty views, all that jazz.... it was a another long hot climbing up and down type of day... my knee is pretty much f·cked, but it was lovely. When we had walked the length of the island, we found ourselve a nice litle hostel, with a terrace overlooking the Lake, and chilled the hell out. It was nice. I had a tea, read my book, and felt much better! We even made friends with ... read more

Now that we had been on the Peruvian side of Lake Titicaca by visiting Puno it was time to see it from the other side….The Bolivian side and therefore on to our 12thcountry of the trip so far. We were receiving better reviews from travellers that had visited the Bolivian side of the lake and heard that both Copacabana and Isla Del Sol were great places to visit, so off we went to Copacabana via bus. Now, we haven’t had much action on buses for a while and they have all been fairly standard trips, however this particular journey did have a couple of incidents. Firstly we witnessed the solidarity of fellow travellers from near and far and secondly we realised that Bolivia was going to be a place where people would try to relieve you ... read more

1st set of photos for this post 2nd set of photos for this post In the past few weeks I have seen more amazing things and done more incredible trips than ever before, and probably ever will do. Going back what now seems an age but was only 3 weeks, I left Argentina and crossed into Chile. The Chileans felt they needed to rifle through my entire bag at the border, yet they had not taken into account my cunning counter strategy. At the top or my rucksack was a bag full of dirty washing which they unwittingly went through first. Surprisingly enough after picking up a couple of crusting socks they decided I was unlikely to be a smuggler and sent me on my way. Richar... read more

Rosa, Maria, Karime, Demi, Sofía, ... read more

I had failed to climb Huanya Potosi, something I realise I haven't written about yet - it's a monster work in progress I one for which I am truly struggling with the words to describe. I will get there eventually... I was devastated not to complete the climb, and after being stuck in La Paz for yet another day due to yet another protest I took a bus to Copacabana - a small, mostly gringo town on the edge of Lake Liticaca. The stunning Lake Titicaca is best known for being the world's highest navigate-able lake, lying at a head-ache inducing 3812m, an even higher altitude than that of La Paz. It covers 8372km², for those of you at home who would prefer it if I gave those two figures in imperial measurements, you'll just have ... read more

Next up was Lake Titicaca which is the highest big lake in the world or the biggest high lake or summat like that. It's big 'n' high. The bus journey from La Paz is made a bit more interesting when you reach part of the lake and have to get off the bus and into a mini boat to make a crossing. The bus itself is then put on a boat which is barely big enough and looks like it could sink any minute. We stayed in a little town called Copacabana which is a lot less sexy than the Brazilian one. From there we took a day trip to the Isla del Sol which is where the Inca's say the sun god was born, although I have my reservations. It was a 2 hour boat ... read more

Day 135 -138 Today we catch a flight to La Paz, on Aerosur. Feeling slightly nervous we board the plane which seems to be about 40 years old (leather seats, ashtrays and rusty doors). Marie-Katherine from our tour, who is an incredibly nervous flier, sits next to us. As we take off she begs us to talk to her to distract her, which we do, but we both feel increasingly nervous that the take off feels strange. It is like we aren’t going upwards, the plane is at a weird angle and when the plane veers left and right and jiggles up and down, MC asks us if this is normal, to which we both reply yes, but then I see that the fear in Em’s eyes confirms she also knows that this is definitely not ... read more
