Some pics of our last day in Ushuaia. It was picture perfect- Alejandro said they only get about 5 a summer like that. We went out on the sailboat "If" to Island H in the Beagle Channel, the last island in Argentina (there are still some islands that belong to Chile before Cape Horn) Island H is a kind of refuge with a lot of tundra plants even though it is close to sea level.... read more

Well, here we are at the end of the earth... Unbelievably beautiful in a totally different way from Iguazu. First, it´s cold! About 15 C- not so cold, but after Iguazu it feels like it, and it´s damp and VERY windy. Yesterday we visited a remote estancia where they have nesting colonies of penguins. About 1 hr 45 mins by car, then about 1/2 hour by zodiac. Just an incredible experience- the scenery is just breathtaking. The Andes aren´t so high here (1200m), but the relief between the mountains and the sea is amazing. There were only 9 people in our group which included coffee and then lunch at the ranch, and they were all very nice. It´s amazing how quickly we became friends. I also love it when people can just switch languages from one ... read more

I had imagined "the end of the world" totally differently. Especially when an elderly english couple on the plane ridiculed me a little for not getting off in Punta Arenas and instead flying on to Ushuaia (WHAAAAAT the ..... are you going THERE for????) I wasn´t quite sure what to expect...and maybe because of that I was rather pleasantly surprised. The flight into Ushuaia was definately one of the best flights ever. The weather was perfect and we spent 3 hours cruising high over the Andes. The view was spectacular; High mountains, glaciers, rugged peaks, perfectly shaped volcanoes and lots of lakes were below us. Then, desert! For hundreds of miles! (What a surpise I thought - hm...guess I hadn´t done my homework and knew nothing about Argentinas Pampa). After 3 wonderful hours the descent into ... read more

What an exhausting day... not that I´m complaining! I awoke at 4am, as my room mate forgot to change the time on her alarm clock, and set it 3 hours early! Breakfast at 7.45 (worse than being at work), then out the door by 8.30am, down to the port. It´s currently summer here in the Southern hemisphere, and today felt very much like a typical English summer day. It was raining, the sky was a definite grey colour, and although not quite cold, the weather wasn´t exactly warm, and I was extremely glad that I decided to pack my waterproof overtrousers at the last minute. However, this morning we went on an amazing boat journey into the Beagle Channel, where good old Darwin came in his famous boat, and made some observations, wrote a book, etc ... read more

Greetings Peeps, i decided to write one more before i set off to Antarctica. Today I will set for the last frontier in about 3 hours. I am getting very excited as I have heard som good stuff about the cruise. As for Ushuaia, well i am in a hostel and I cannot find the question mark or the apostrophe on the keyboard....and that is why you will see this shakespearian english along with no questions. Ushuaia is a small town but in a beautiful setting. I took some pictures by the harbour, however, I will not be downloading any right now cause the hostel does not have the equipment for it. I will do it in town when I get back. The town is very touristy and I have to gladly adjust to the latino ... read more

I can bearly believe it, nor can I contain my excitement. I am so thrilled about it. Lo is very excited too, we cant sleep, we cant eat!! We are leaving on Monday on a swanky 13 day cruise on The Marco Polo. The best bit about it too is it is so cheap we paid $1000US, and it should be $5000!! There are lots of people from our hostel going and apparently a total of 200 backpackers on board - so should be fun (lower the average age a little). Feel a bit bad for the people who booked early, not only have they paid loads more, they will not be expecting 200 people to arrive with backpacks and combats! I will be on the cruise for my birthday too, (17th Feb) which is brilliant! ... read more

Woh! is all I can say about this city, it's really amaizing, lovely, wonderful. It's all I were looking for, safety... you can go for a walk at 12 pm and nobody is going to attack or robbed you. At first it was a bit difficult to get used to this place, because of the light, I came in December (That is the beginig of the summer here) and the day gets dark at 11:40 pm and appears at 3:30 am really unbeliable. About the people, is very polite and nice, something I realized is that there's no poor people and homeless people, that's quite good. The city is no big (40.000 inhabitants), it's colourful, lovely with an interesting history and an amaizing nature. Other thin I noticed is that there's so many people from ... read more

Well well well what a week it has been!! We reached Rio Gallegos as planned only to find that there was a 6 day bottle neck on going south, so with the flexibility that our travelling style accords us we changed our plans and went west instead. After 16hours travelling from Puerto Madryn , we got straight back on a bus and headed to El Calafate (4.5 hours) and then on a dirt track 4.5hours on to El Chalten. Shattered we collapsed into our Army Barrack style accommodation. In the morning we realised we had arrived in fabulous high andean mountain range. See Photos. The first day we walked up to Cerro Torre, a fantastic walk to a Glaciar and volcanic lake. Hot and windy walk. Woke up the second day to see a blue sky ... read more

¡Hola Chicos! Mit em Taxi bin ... read more
