Hola from Argentina! Well my last blog ended in peru and since then again, we´ve packed in a fair bit of travelling!. From cusco we had quite a drive down to a place called puno. Miserable weather and even worse in Puno. Have to say Puno not the nicest of places we´ve been but its the place where you do trips to the floating reed islands on lake titicaca. So the next morning we went out on our boat trip to visit the locals on the islands. It was really interesting to see how they live and how they make the islands, i think each island has a life of about 25 years then they have to replace it as it starts to rot and smell. Though they´re constantly making new parts as it get ratherr ... read more

Pleased to report that I did in fact manage to drink on New Year´s Eve, although Potosi was definitely a strange place to be spending it. Not quite the party capital of the world! We struggled to find places open for dinner, and for drinking afterwards it was even harder.... managed to get dinner at a chinese in the end, but on the drinks front all they had was beer or water! No wine, or any other soft drinks at all. Fortunately they didn´t mind us going out to buy supplies from a shop down the road, so that´s exactly what we did. Ended up with a some 1 litre cartons of white wine at 7.5 Bols each (about 50p!). When I say carton, I don´t mean like a wine box, I mean like a carton ... read more

Salta is beautiful!! A city in the NW of Argentina, surrounded by stunning green mountains and buildings with great colonial architecture. It is 1190m above sea level and has a great plaza, fab for christmas breakfast! We wanted a spectacular view for christams dinner and thats just what we got! We walked up 1070 steps, with our packed lunch to the top of the cerrosan bernardo mountain at the edge of the city (1458m high). It was a great way to spend christmas day, we thought of you all stuffing yourselves silly with mince pies and the like! When we reached the top the views were fab, we could see the city in its entirity and beyond, 360° views across tree lined mountains. This was of course, the perfect place to have our christmas dinner 'Queso ... read more

Only a few days away from leaving Argentina. Spent the last five days in Salta, in the northwest of Argentina - a warm place just at the beginning of the wet season, so it is very humid as well. Went on a road trip yesterday with four guys from the hostel, to visit Cafayate and passing through the Quebrada de Cafayate, which has absolutely amazing rock formations and an almost lunar scenery most of the way. Unfortunately the weather turned out to be quite grey and drizzly, so the colour were not as intense as they are ususally, nonetheless it was still a pretty spectacular view. We stopped at Alemania so Moritz (the German guy in the group) could take a photo. It is a very quiet place, off the road and beyond the river. First ... read more

After our brief stop in San Pedro in Northern Chile we crossed the border again into Northern Argentina. First stop Salta. Salta is a medium sized town, set on a plain beneath green forested hills. Green was a novelty after arriving from the high Andes of Peru and Bolivia, and the desert of Northern Chile. There not much to do in Salta itself, apart from sit in street cafes in the sunshine and eat steak and drink red wine. Tough eh? I had the best steak ever (by a long way) and it cost less that a McDonalds Happy Meal in the UK! We did go rafting while we were in Salta. About an hours drive south of the city there is a reservoir for hydro electricity. For a few hours every day, they release thousands ... read more

I guess we've been neglecting our blog responsibilities, so now we have two cities to write about: Potosi, Bolivia and Salta, Argentina. First, Potosi: It was one of our favourite cities in Bolivia. Also, it is the highest city in the world at 4090 m ASL, so in your face all you sea level-dwellers. We enjoyed Potosi for two reasons: 1) Its physical beauty. It has some of the finest colonial buildings that we have seen. For instance, our hostel -- Hostal Carlos V -- was in a great colonial building. (Never mind that the hardwood floors were covered by newspaper, and one time when I was having a shower, green algae began seeping out of the shower head. But then again, maybe the algae is related to the building's "history"...) 2) The historical context. Potosi ... read more

We spent the day in Salta arranging our own tour. Wewere getting sick of the tour busses. Can you imigine that. So we headed out on the local bus to Cafayate. It is the wine region around salta. Three hour big bus ride. The last night in salta we headed back to the hostile to ask if the German Couple wanted to join us. The women decided to head south, and the guy opted to go with us. So we have another traveler. He has been a nice addition to our group of two. We had a dinner that night all of us than in the morning we got on the local bus with the german guy. We arrived in Cafayate and arranged a tour of sorts. We opted to mountain bike ride down a very ... read more

I am having a really great time, Finally found a place that has computers that will allow me to write on the blog site. I will try to update you all. We are around Salta now. The day after the last entry we booked a tour of the north. We wanted to go on the train to the clouds but it is not possibile and will likely not be possible for some time. Turns out the train engine broke down in a place that they had to evacuate people out until four in the morning, Very Unhappy tourists, that about two months ago. The town was not so happy the operators, so they have to really fix the engine and that may take some time here. Its in the middle of no where. So the tour ... read more

Well If you ever want to know what to bring the locals here Keyboards they really suck here. It makes my spelling look worst then it is. Well Yesterday we finished up in BA. I have not caught up on my sleep, but what the hell it is vacation. I can sleep at work right? Yesterday we went to Eva Perons grave site. I took some black and White photos which I hope will turn out well. The light was perfect and the suroundings were strange, lots of cats hanging around and there was even a funeral there, plus very strange lighting. We also wanted to check out some museums but they needed a day off so They picked the day we wanted to see things. Oh well. there is always the return trip. Instead katheryn ... read more

Hi, I´m 27 (28 on saturday), I'm tall, loveable/pityfull (select when appropriate), ridiculously in debt, and almost always stoned (but not in argentina, grrr). I shower frequently but live out of a dirty bag. Nonetheless, I'm optimistic and have a vexing confidence. You can usually find me on my couch or staring out windows at the south american scenery, if I'm feeling active, i may follow people in the streets, making suggestive animal noises. When I do drag myself out of bed, I actually enjoy limited exercise, frivolous indulgences, and frequent masturbation. I travel with a companion of equally stylish mannerisims and an abundance of dignity....currently we are drowning ourselves with liquer on the off chance that we stumble into or are stumbled upon, a hostel overflowing with equally adventurous like minded souls! but back to ... read more
