Pants! For no apparent reason I just lost all I've written. So, to try and repeat: Got to Queenstown- biggest place on South Island (I think). Watched some of the guys do the original AJ Hackett bungy (43m plus water dunk) as part of their thrilogy package. Then went off quad biking! Was amazing, even though it was only biking was still a thrill to be riding up and down slopes over rough terrain on such a decent machine! Having booked in etc, have just come back from Joey's birthday night out! Have had to wear a white shirt and 'tie' as a theme, still ahs resulted ina signed shirt!! nice memo! Enetered a competition in the Altitude bar and won!!! Had to drink a glass of water while I had a small electric impulse shot ... read more

Greetings from Queenstown, the adventure capital of New Zealand, or perhaps the world. Now, I'm of the school of thought that adventure can happen anywhere and you don't necessarily have to be emptying your wallet or risking spinal injury to participate, but for certain types of paid outdoor adventure type activities, Queenstown is the place. Take your pick from rafting, jet boating, parasailing, skiing, snowboarding, river boarding (boogie boarding down a river), canyoning, canyon swinging, and even some kind of airplane-like tethered rocket plane kind of thing. and of course bungee jumping (invented here). Queenstown has all of these. Sherry and I will probably partake in the jet boating, but that's about it. The landscape on the south island is beautiful: snowcapped mountains, green valleys, still lots of sheep. On Saturday (2 days agao) we had ... read more

All Blacks game tonight in Dunedin!!! Today I woke up after sleeping in the van on a hill overlooking a very nice beach. I forgot what the beach was called, but it was a surfing beach, it had big waves that broke really nicely. I woke up, but on the shoes, changed clothes, and walked down to the beach on a path though plants and shrubs. The sand was really fine and soft. It was very quite, the only sounds were the waves crashing onto rocks. I got back in the van and drove into town. I picked up my ticket to the game in the afternoon for a little over $50 and hung out in dunedin for awhile. I bought snorkling gear for 9 bucks, I plan to use it in the Bay of Islands ... read more

at the mo we are in invercargill on the south island. we have been in our van for 2 weeks now, and have been out and about seeing lots and lots: NZ sealions and seals. lots of yellow-eyed penguins, and a blue penguin - really close up. also saw lots of spotted shags - birds with mohecans! and saw royal albatrosses - big birds that glide. we have been from christchurch down the east coast, occasionally darting inland to see things like mount cook (NZs highest mt) - all covered in snow and very impressive. lake tekapo - huge blue lake surrounded by mountains, also v impressive. also done plenty of walking along some of the most beautiful beaches. as people told us, it really is a great country and one you could never tire of ... read more

Dunedin quiz today - Question 1 :- dunedin is the gaelic name for what (Elinor ?????) Question 2 :- What kind of penguins (which are the rarest in the world no less) is the otago peninsula famous for? Question 3 :- what animal smells worse? Penguins, sealions or seals? Answers on the back of a beer mat attached to your nose. Arrived in Dunedin to book a trip out to the Otago Peninsula to see the ?$#!!% penguins and Albatrosses. A great afternoon as you go into a huge tunnel network underground with peep holes to get a birds-eye view as they come in after a day fishing (sounds a bit perverse i know!). Early start this morning, we head off from Dunedin to Kaikora to go see the Whales seen as we have got some ... read more

Hey mates, NEW PHOTOS Check out my new photos on this blog from Milford Sound and bungy jumping! I have safely arrived in Queenstown after a short jaunt of a flight from Welly via. Christchurch. Nz is such a headrush- for a country of such small stature, they sure do pack a ton of amazingly diverse and vast landscape. The thing that rocks about NZ is that you can drive for an hour and be in a completely different place, almost like a whole other country. It drives you wild. Upon arrival I was blown away by the superb mountain scenery. Just lucious absolutely breathtaking. I took a shuttle to the Queenstown YHA (hostel) and met up with lauren and rachel, Jenn followed along after her flight landed. I purused the quant little mountain shops and ... read more

- FOOD: Apple crumble muffin - so good. More pot noodles for dinner. - PEOPLE: Strange hostel man who made us feel we'd arrived at The Shining hotel (but he let me have a room for 15 bucks) - AREA: Speedy drive on long, straight road across the country to the lovely Dunedin. Scenic Otago Peninsula to watch the shy (and very rare) yellow-eyed penguins. Disgusting fish smell in the van (clutch going). Oamaru to see the little blue penguins. Thur Aug 18th: Got the windscreen fixed at last after a huge stone had been flung our way by a huge lorry and left a huge chip. But to cheer ourselves up after splashing out on that, we found somewhere to have the nicest apple crumble muffin for breakfast. That set us up for the long ... read more

well weve now trecked south from Franz Josef and suprisingly the weather has turned fantastic again- As in the average rainfull is not 7 metres per year. We spent the night in Wanaka with a great view of some huge mountains. Incidentily on the way we stopped of at the amazing puzzling world which was quite frankly amazing. All the puzzles youve ever played from the rubik cube to shifting the blocks on a tile thingy (you know) while you sit and have a coffee. There were loads of illusions and holograms and not to mention an enourmous maze. (yes we completed the wanaka maze) which Gem and i got totally lost in -I DID TELL HER TO TURN LEFT AT THE TREE BUT NO NO WE HAVE TO GO STRAIGHT ON! To be honest i ... read more
