Published: February 2nd 2012Oceania » New Zealand » North Island » Wanganui » WanganuiWe are now back on north island staying at Wanganui for 4 days. Hope to kayak down the river tomorrow. Since our last update we visited glacier country in south island, walking to the faces of fox glacier and Franz Josef glacier. both really spectacular especially Fox. after the glaciers we travelled back over to the east coast via arthurs pass stopping at a few places along the way and even staying a night in Springfield, saw Bart skateboarding down the street and Homer having a cold one in Mo's. Sorry just made all that up, but Springfield was realand one of the best value sites we have stayed at. Next stop was Hanmer springs for a look around didnt venture into the spa. After that we had a few days left to lie on the ... read more

... read more

Published: July 6th 2011Oceania » New Zealand » North Island » Wanganui » WanganuiWanganui. Wednesday 27 April 2011 Not particularly much to do here today. Bit rainy but lots of Glass Art studios and art galleries to stroll around. Gonna have to get this Warranty of Fitness (WOF) situation for my van sorted before I get pulled over and arrested. Whanganui River Trip
Published: January 5th 2011Oceania » New Zealand » North Island » Wanganui » WanganuiHi All, Donavin reporting in after a fantastic canoe trip along the Whanganui River over the Christmas/New Year’s holiday break. Question: When is a Great Walk not a walk? Answer:-. When it is a canoe trip down the Whanganui River. Don't ask me why, but the Whanganui River Journey is designated as one of the nine Great Walks of New Zealand. For the last three years, since Marcos made the suggestion, I’ve been fixed with the idea of canoeing slowly down one of New Zealands most beautiful and pristine rivers – that idea became reality this year. To travel down the Whanganui is also to experience in part the history of New Zealand; the river was an important travel route for hundreds of years for the Maori who lived along its shores and, in the early ... read more
Wanganui down to Wellington for the Interisland Ferry.
Published: November 8th 2011Oceania » New Zealand » North Island » Wanganui » WanganuiWangnui (they don’t pronounce the 'g') was great. I had a traditional English breakfast in the pub downstairs. I also went back to the coffee shop/ restaurant I had dinner at last night. The beautiful girl I saw passing through was working as a waitress/barista. I had the feeling I could have stayed in that little town for a while. The people were exceptionally nice. Also, I had internet for the first time in a day. No real email, but I did get a chance to chat with my friend... After yesterday's drive, I was anxious to get to Wellington. Oh! I got a speeding ticket! It was kind of exciting actually. The guy cut me a break and only marked me for 18kph over instead of the 38kph over that I was actually driving. What ... read more
