After what was an unnecessarily late night at Skylodge we managed to drag ourselves out of bed and get down to reception to book our onward island journey for that day so we wouldn't have to stay another night there, waste another night in Nadi and generally be very disappointed with ourselves. Well I say we, me first, then Kev and Sarah and eventually The Chief after much coaxing. We three had decided to go to Beachcomber for a few reasons: The first was the whole "party island" reputation so we felt we really should at least drop in on the place, the second was that Andy "Human Jukebox" Smith was there as we'd learnt the day before, and the third was we had neither the will nor the inclination to do any research into going ... read more

The 10 hour 45 min flight to Fiji seemed fairly quick, there were so many spare seats that most people were able to claim 3 to sleep on, the only things that woke me were some stupid cabin crew waking me up to ask if i wanted tea or coffee... im asleep, why would i want either??? Let me sleep! And the other was some sever mid flight turbulence. Anyway i landed in Fiji at 5.30am feeling fine, by the time id got through the baggage and customs it was about half 6, and i got the bus from outside the airport with some others straight to the port for free. Tne company i travelled with were called Awesome Adventures, the tour was the Tropical Awegasm. I boarded the Yasawa Flyer (which is the fastest boat ... read more

After my late night antics of the previous evening I was surprisingly quick to get up this morning. In fact, I was pretty much awake and alert before anyone else despite being the last to go to bed and so I wandered down to the bar/restaurant area and grabbed some lunch before heading back down to the beach to indulge in some sea kayaking. I had half planned to do some diving here but the boat left at eight and quite frankly I had neither the will nor the inclination to get up at anywhere near that sort of time so i had to miss out. So I grabbed a kayak and spent the better part of an hour on my own floating about on the gentle currents in the baking sun over a reef and ... read more

After last night's late night due to nonsensical washer-dryer situations I was in no mood to get up and go today, and yet when it came to it I was still the first person up and into the restaurant for breakfast. Luckily it looked like it was going to be a nice day again today, we seemed to have completely lucked out with the rainforest trek and the timing of the little bit of rain we got and today there was very little, if any, strenuous activity so we all were after a few rays. Our first stop took us to a supermarket to buy lunch and some stationery items we had to take to the school we'd be visiting later in the day as a gift for the kids. It costs something like FJ$30 a ... read more

Fiji is pretty amazing. Met many really nice and friendly backpackers... And the cool thing was when I took the boat to Robinson Crusoe Island. And tried Scuba diving. Shut! I was so nervous. But it was amazing and the couple i dove with were really calm and cool, so nema problema! We saw 3 sharks and a lot of colorful fishes.. I was down there during 47 minutes... Not bad, hey! Had some really relaxing days on the island, beaching, canoeing and swimming and tanning....Joined a german guy back to Nadi bay hotel. And back to Australia.... read more

We awoke to find the heavens has opened. Though I'm here in Fiji's Summer it's also their wet season as that's the time it's most humid. Gareth had snuck in at some point during the night having finished his kava sesssion and was in no mood to catch any breakfast. The rest of us slowly got up, it was about seven in the morning, and got showered and dressed and made our way for breakfast cursing the weather and bemoaning the fact we had a three hour trek through the rainforest today in it. We made our way down to the river, stopping to buy lunch and stock up on water, and got out of the bus to transfer to and old army truck. We'd eventually make our way back to bus via a big loop ... read more

So there I was sat in the lobby of the Nadi Bay Resort waiting with anticipation for the Feejee Experience bus to arrive. I hadn't really had the best time of it yet in Fiji and Nadi certainly hadn't set my world alight so I was filled with a real mix of hope and trepidation. When it did arrive I got on and there were only three others on there, it had only made one stop so far and I was the only person getting on at Nadi Bay so I was there with three others who already knew each other, Justin from Southend and a couple Kev and Sarah from Greenwich. We carried on around and picked up an Aussie couple, whose names escape me, Pauline from Leicester, and Rosa from Madrid. We stopped down ... read more

After flying in from Christmas Island and crossing the International Dateline - not an interracial phone service for meeting someone for the ignorant amongst you - I lost 24 hours, or gained it, I don't really know, but I ended up a day ahead of when I took off. I was a little quiet the whole way into the hostel, I was going from private rooms with private bathrooms to 12 person dorms with one shared bathroom so I was a little nervous to say the least. Having never been in anything like this I was naturally a little nervous, but i met an English lad from Devon called Olly and we had a few beers and he regailed me with tales of his travels. People who travel really love to talk about travelling, or travellers, ... read more

We arrived into Nadi airport on the mainland of Fiji to a with a welcoming of... rain! As we'd heard from a few other people the weather in Fiji wasn;t very good t the moment, but hoping for fantastic weather affter some cold weather in Fiji we couldn't help being dissapointed. Ah well, the welcoming of singing and guitar playing from four men dressed in hawaiian shirts (or Bula shirts as their known here) brightened our arrival. After a long journey through customs we were greeted by a Fijian lady presenting us with a lei; a necklace made of lots of tiny shells on fishing wire. She lead us to a bus stop out side of the airport grounds where we saw our first sights of Fiji; stray dogs, rugged huts, strange smells and nothing westernised. ... read more
