This was the ticket, you could just tell. A much smaller island, Bounty was the location for the reality TV show “celebrity love island” and don’t you just know it when you get there!! Big pictures of all the celebrities that appeared on the show were hung up on the notice board in the dining area. We had sunset drinks on the jetty. The Cocktails were good but the best bit for me was jumping off the roof of the boat into the water. We had a good evening having a few drinks in the bar chatting with Ashley & Brent and also some Aussie’s we had seen on the Big yellow boat Mark, Roxy and Megan. Hi guys cool to meet you and hope to see you in the New Year. Later on that evening ... read more

We were not getting picked up for our transfer to Naviti Island until midday so this left us a huge dilemma with what to do with ourselves……… We managed to come up with a couple of ideas and spent the morning snorkeling and sitting in the hammock ; ) At the Korovou resort our accommodation improved somewhat! We even had an en-suite. And a sea view. The resort was a step up in terms of facilities too, with fresh water showers and running water being a welcomed plus. It even had a fresh water pool and no sooner had I spotted it, I was in it cooling off from our journey. Not too long after arriving the drum for afternoon tea sounded and everyone had high expectation for what turned out to be a huge anti ... read more

To give you an idea of just how laid back Fiji was for us, we actually had a debate with some other people over what day and date it was! In short, none of us had a clue! That prompted this class quote from Lynny "I dont know what the time is, I dont even know what day or date it is ...... all I know is that im in Fiji". Whilst there, we had the constant cloud of an impending military coup hanging over the country (I think its happening as I write this from the safety of Sydney), but you would not have known it had it not been for the newspapers. The mainland, even the capital Suva, seemed to tick along oblivious. The smaller islands (some of them tiny) are nicely cut off ... read more

Our ten days in paradise are over! We've had enough of sandy beaches, palm trees, relaxing in hammocks... and made our way over to New Zealand. But first let us tell you about our Fijian experience: After 22 hours on a plane and 3 hours in LA we eventually arrived in Nadi, Fiji at 5:15am on Monday 13th November having lost a day crossing the international date line. Spent a couple of nights in Nadi, before heading out to the Yasawa Islands off the west of the main island. These are the 'real' Fiji, the real backpacking experience. Beautiful but very basic, not for those who like their luxuries! Took the bright yellow Yasawa flyer for 4 hours to Nanuya Lailai at the top of the island chain. Greeted by a bbq on the beach and ... read more

The Yasawa Islands are set off the north west coast of the main Island Vita Levu. Our first stop was Tavewa Island and the Coral View resort. We were the last stop for the big yellow Catamaran, the “Yasawa Flyer.” It was a 5 hour transfer from the port a little longer than the hour and a half I‘d thought and told Jo…never mind! So feeling a bit tired, it was great to get another warm welcome. As we approached in our transfer boat we were greeted by the staff singing the “bula” welcome song from the beach. The Island had a high ridge leading to a grassy peak overlooking the resort from which the land slipped away to a palm tree covered shoreline. Perfect. Well that was until………As everyone rushed to get checked in we ... read more

We landed in Fji on the morning of Tuesday 7th November. The heat hit us as we stepped off the plane - it was a lot warmer than New Zealand! We got the free shuttle bus from the airport to our hotel. Our hotel was really nice and we had booked to stay for 3 nights. Basically, we didn't want to tour the different islands in Fiji for the simple reason that we wanted to do as little as possible. So, we had had a certain island and resort recommended to us (by a guy we met in New Zealand) but it was fully booked for our first few nights in Fiji. Therefore, we were staying at the hotel in Nadi for 3 nights and then moved to the island. We did very little in Fji, ... read more

Arriving in Fiji we were greeted by a great big Bula! Which is Hello in Fijian. And as a small group of guitar playing singers continued with the Fijian welcome song it really set the mood for what was to become a brilliant two weeks of fun and sun. Just a bit of Market research, but what do you reckon to the Wurzles being employed to welcome people into Exeter?? “Where be that black bird to……” Our first resort was the Stoney Creek Lodge www.stoneycreekfiji.net run by a lovely couple called Michelle & Gary. The location was perfect for unwinding. Set back on the hillside opposite the Sleeping Giant Mountain Range, it had a number of sweeping shaded terraces and a large kidney shaped pool with a walk over bridge. The mountain backdrop was stunning, lush ... read more

Fiji has been incredible. Right from the start we were ready for relaxation. (4hour flight from Quito to Miami 3 hours layover in Miami, 5.5 hour flight to LA, 4 hour layover in LA, 10.5 hour flight to Fiji...) We pre-arranged our hostel so that when we arrived at 5am we had a bus waiting for us and breakfast upon arrival. We are staying at Tropic of Capricorn with the owner Mama, who welcomes you home and treats you just like you were her own, its really nice. At her place we arranged a trip to Barefoot Island Resort, with an open ended stay. We didn't want to plan too much yet, we were sooooo tired. Our first day in Fiji we were welcomed with the word Bula to every shop in town, its similar to ... read more

Hello everyone :) First and foremost thanks to everyone who has sent us e-mails. It is appreciated and we will reply eventually but as you can probably imagine it is quite difficult finding the time. Our journey to Fiji began quite stressfully! We left San Diego at about 2.30pm on Monday 6th and missed our bus! When we managed to catch the next bus it took ages to reach LA and then Hollywood. Stupidly we decided to catch the metro/underground from Hollywood to get to the airport as we thought we would save some money. However, the underground suddenly went overground once we got out off downtown LA and we started going through the middle of the ghettos! We had to swap trains one stop away from Compton which is like the centre of the projects. ... read more
