Hey!!!! Hope everyones well!!! Gonna change the format for Fiji cos otherwise you will all get very bored of me sunbathing and lying in hammocks all day (haha!!!) so i'll whizz through it all in one lump!!! Got picked up from the airport and taken to the hostel where luckily my room was air conditioned cos even though it was raining it was still ridiculosly hot!!!! that evening a group called the Kavaholics were doing a very laid back show where u basically sit on a mat and listen to them play guitars and drink Kava but first we had to become a member by taking part in a Kava ceremony where u learn the traditional way of drinking it!!!Kava is non alcoholic so cant really understand why they drink it cos it tastes like muddy ... read more

Just a quick blog, again with no photographs as we are in an internet cafe in down town Nadi. We are in Nadi just for a couple of hours before flying to Los Angeles, Nadi is a bit of a shock as it is a bustling not very pretty town, but as they say 'It is what it is'...We have been on Malalolo Island which is just like the brochures, palm trees, beach front bures (little houses) and perfect holidaying....except it rained and rained for a couple of days, real monsoon stuff, but our first few days was in a really laid back resrt where they welcomed us with gutar playing and song at the end of the peir after a 45 minute small boat ride from the main island. The food was good and ... read more

becoming a certified diver In fiji, I learned to dive and am now a certivied 'junior open water' scuba diver with PADI the Professional Asociation of Diving Instructors..!! It wasd fantastic, first I did the discover scuba diving course and liked it so much I did the open water course. I had to do 5 swimming pool diving sessions and four open water dives and some theory. The diving on the coral reefs was amazing. I saw two baby white tipped shark s which were hiding in a little cave, I also saw a black white and orange 'nemo'h next to its home anenome. We saw a big green moray eel hiding in a hidy hole, and just millions and millions of fantastic coloured fish. All in all a fantastic time. We are now off to ... read more

Yes, that's right - we're off again after spending only two days in Fiji - or rather our resort (due to the torrential rain and flooded roads) we have decided that our time will be better spent in New Zealand. We have changed our flights and we leave in the morning. We would have liked to have stayed to see more of the mainland and the islands but there hasn't been a long enough dry spell to allow us to do so. The weather forecasts haven't been overly optimistic as it is meant to be pretty much the same until our origingal leaving date. However: - We are very excited to be going to NZ - We have had Fiji bitter lager (Good stuff) - And we have also had Fijian facials (to pass the ... read more

Hi All, Have just uploaded the photos from the end of our Australia trip but it has taken forever to do that and so we don't have the energy to upload anymore for now! So the Fiji ones will have to wait but we will upload them in South America or during the many hours we have to wait at the airports for our connecting flights! So for now enjoy the photos that we have put on so far and read our news if you like! Love Phil and Kathy xxx... read more

Hey Everyone, Just read your comments! Mom and Dad, I am alive (haha) and getting accustomed to this whole idea of travelling. The best part of course is talking to as many people as you can about their trips and of course talking to true Fijian's to get an idea of how their quality of life is here. We will try to write about that later. So far we have run into a bunch of people from England. So many that Keith and I may come back with an English acent (not really). I apologize for the spelling in advance, but I don't have much time to worry about my grammar. To answer your question Matt. Our flight out of Toronto went through Vancouver (saw the rocky mountains). I must say all the flights were exhausting. ... read more

Hi all, Just a quick note to let you know that we arrived in Fiji safely with all our baggage in tact. It was like stepping into a sauna getting off the plane. With 26 deree heat at 10pm at night! We awoke this morning (15th) to about 30 degree heat at 7 in the morning. We are staying at the Aquarius Fiji backpackers in Nadi and it's right on the beach with hamocks, palm trees a nice swiming pool and of courtse the ocean on the backdoorstep. Pictures to follow. We'll be spending the rest of the day making a plan of action but it looks likely that we'll leave Viti Levu, the main island asap and head towards the mamanuca and the yasawa islands to the north west of Fiji. Rumour has it their ... read more

I had to spend about 8 hours in this quite rustic airport. The airconditioning was a bit weak/nonexistant. I was a shame I did not get a chance to see Figi itself since airport transfers are such a bore, frankly I was was glad to leave, especially from that really irritating local music that they played everywhere.
