I'm sitting in Bula internet, at the heart if Nadi, Fiji. It's roasting and humid outside, but thankfully it's air conditioned in here. Nothing except church happens on a Sunday in Fiji. All that shops are shut and I've spent most of the day here. Tomorrow I travel to Levuka, the old colonial capital, off the east of Viti Levu the mainland. I'm not entirely sure how I'm getting there yet. I've been told I need to get a bus, then a minibus then a boat then a bus. All of that sounds complicated and of course everything runs on Fiji time, so one of them is bound to be late. Fiji's a tiny country though, I'm sure it can't be that hard. As some of you may or may not have heard, there is a ... read more

Sorry about the slackness and lack of recent updates, but we've been cruising round the Yasawa Islands for the last few weeks and there's no phones, no signal and definately no internet! Some places only have electricity when the generators are on (about an hour a day) Which makes going to bed in a dorm when it's pitch black and you're pissed quite a troublesome task! Bit tired and hungover so gonna do the best i can with this! Arrived in Nadi ???? days ago (seem to have lost track of days and dates) and stayed the night at Horizon - which was that nice that we're staying here again now for the next few days! We came here with some people we met in the Cooks and ended up sitting on the beach drinking Duty ... read more

Bula everybody from Fiji. Despite what some of you might be thinking, I was not hiding out in the American Embassy fearing for my life while here in Fiji. About the only things I saw any Fijian armed with was a big smile and plenty of Bulas. The only thing the coup met fore me was a better exchange rate and fewer people. I left the Cook Islands at 12:15am Saturday morning November 25th and got to Fiji at 2:00am on Sunday the 26th because we had crossed over the dateline. There goes one day that I’ll never get back. I stayed in probably the worst hostel I’ve stayed in yet in Nadi on Viti Levu (the main island), but at 3:00am you don’t get too picky. Once I woke up I booked myself in the ... read more

Arriving in Fiji we were greeted by a great big Bula! Which is Hello in Fijian. And as a small group of guitar playing singers continued with the Fijian welcome song it really set the mood for what was to become a brilliant two weeks of fun and sun. Just a bit of Market research, but what do you reckon to the Wurzles being employed to welcome people into Exeter?? “Where be that black bird to……” Our first resort was the Stoney Creek Lodge www.stoneycreekfiji.net run by a lovely couple called Michelle & Gary. The location was perfect for unwinding. Set back on the hillside opposite the Sleeping Giant Mountain Range, it had a number of sweeping shaded terraces and a large kidney shaped pool with a walk over bridge. The mountain backdrop was stunning, lush ... read more

Had a really fun day today on a cruise to a couple of uninhabited islands. We did snorkeling a the islands and I found a really cool starfish. My father would be proud! Oh yeah, it was all inclusive so we drunk lots of beer, champagne and rum. Got back to the hotel quite intoxicated and very red!... read more

I tried to think of a more clever title and I actually came up with one but then I forgot it. And anyway, what could possibly be more appropriate? Here in Fiji, bula is the standard greeting. It means welcome in Fijian. It is written all over everything and everyone says it to you. Seriously everyone is saying bula to you all the time, from hosts of your hotel to the guy on the street trying get you in his taxi, everyone everywhere all the time bula. Of course there is a lot more to Fiji than that. There's white sand beachs, palm trees, crystal clear warm calm water, beautiful coral, hundreds of different fishes (fishes is correct in this context, look it up), great weather and oh you can't forget about hammocks. Yes yes there ... read more

Hello everyone! Sorry it's been a while since my last blog, but I have been on another island without internet access. So here I am, back on the mainland....and back in the real world. So to sum it up... I am in a city called Nadi. And I arrived last Monday (6th Nov). I wouldn't really call Nadi a city...it's more of a poorly built town... but luckily we are on the outskirts of the city, so it is rather nice here. Well anyways, I arrived on Monday and the first thing I did was to have breakfast... bacon, eggs, beans, toast, hash brown....and a nice big pile of salad (not the most common of items in a full english). Then for pretty much the next 2 days I just chilled by the pool with some ... read more

Checked into our hotel at 7:30am feeling very tired but decided to walk to the beach. We didn't know where we were going though and ended up in Nadi town centre. This is where we were mobbed by local shopkeepers and were taken into a shop off a side street. They were very friendly, although obviously trying to take our money! We sat and drank 3 coconut shells of Cava each. Cava is a pepper root that is ground into a powder and then water is added to it. It tastes a bit like talcem powder water with a bit of pepper in it. Having given up most of our money we then were mobbed by other shopkeepers but had caught onto their cunning sales pitches by then.... read more
