A bit of a later beginning to the day, but who is in a rush? We had chosen t visit a garden Maze advertised in the visitor’s brochures and picked the Ashcombe Lavender Garden Maze. The address input into the Tom-tom navigator and away we go. All is well except we ended up on a steep dirt road going through some bushland. This certainly raised questions in both our minds and thankful we had a decent vehicle, equipped with four wheel drive if required! Yet we were both surprised when we came out on a sealed stretch of road about 500metres from our chosen destination. Relief and thankful we had trusted Tom to get us there, we headed into the attraction. Gee the price was a little steep at $30.00 but never mind it showed up ... read more

Mornington peninsula je SV od Melbourna. Polotok sva z Zvonko precili do Flinders. Ob cesti so farmarji dobro oznacili svojo dejavnost in mikavno ponudbo razlicnih proizvodov, od vina, jagod, cesenj. Nikjer se nisva ustavili, ker naju je gnala radovednost naprej, do konca polotoka. Flinders je rt, kjer se zbirajo srfarji. Opazovali sva jih z razgledne terase, ko so cepeli v vodi in cakali na valove, da so na njih pojezdili do obale. Vreme je bilo oblacno in rahlo je zacelo dezevati, kar pa ni motilo seniorjev, ki so na obali na igriscu za golf udarjali po majhnih belih zogicah. Niti obala, niti prizori, ki jih je ponujala, me niso fascinirali, mogoce zaradi vremena. Opelali sva se do Cape Schaneck, kjer je pod svetilnikom speljana pot v naravni park, kjer 1000 stopnic in lesenih mosticev vodi k ... read more

A story always starts somewhere, and for us, it was the 17th July 2008 and the day before departure. We worked all day to set up the car and van. Around four thirty it was time to hitch up the van. Went to start the car and .............nothing! What do we do now? We rang BMW and within half an hour a fellow was there from Mornington. We had a flat battery. He had the car going in no time and so we went for a drive to charge it up hoping against hope that it wouldn't fail the next day. It was fine. We later realized the car doors had been left open most of the day with the key in the ignition. Dumbo! Shepparton The drive to Shepparton was pleasant enough. The narrow bumpy ... read more

And here begins day two… Welcome to Australia! The only place where people eat their own national animal. I woke up with a start at the sound of the alarm and enjoyed the feeling of refreshment after a much needed sleep in a comfortable bed. Again, I will try to describe the day like my grandma would by highlighting the food. For breakfast, I had bacon, sausage, a toasted English muffin, and some delicious watermelon. The bacon was interesting because it was in a strange shape. The only thing that I could describe it as is kinda like a pork chop shape. It is thicker than the bacon back home but still very tasty. We had some sessions, as you would expect, in our orientation. Then we had a break for lunch. We walked into ... read more

I finally arrived in Melbourne, Australia after 15.5 hours on an airplane as well as an additional two hour emergency landing in Brisbane to refuel because of weather conditions. It was so painful to be in Brisbane, to be in Australia, and still be stuck on that airplane. All the students were restlessly walking up and down the aisles and trying to catch glimpses out the window since the majority of us would be studying in that very city. What a tease! We eventually made it to the Melbourne airport only to be ushered onto buses to drive two hours to the coast where we would be spending our first four days of orientation. We stayed in a small town called Sorrento, what I was told is considered the "Hamptons" of Melbourne, in an old seaside ... read more

Now I don’t want to sound like some old comedian, but what is it with men who don’t wan to ask for directions from their girlfriends, I mean, what’s that all about?? The plan was simple, Lee and I wanted to get out of the city for a couple of days and David and Nerida had said we could use their car if we wanted. We thought we would take ourselves off down to The Mornington Peninsula which is supposed to be lovely and crash out and relax for a few days so that we could recover from the “strenuous” seven days work we had just completed in the elections. Lee managed to find a magic wee guesthouse down there so we just hopped in the car and set off. Mornington Peninsula is only about an ... read more
