Australia – The Great Ocean Road and the Grampian Highlands – The twelve apostles, London Bridge and a random night where we shared our worst nightmare toilet scenarios!! Truly an Oz experience. Oh and not forgetting my first sightings of Koalas and Kangaroos. With all my tours booked it was time to start the first one, as the bus rocked up to my hostel at stupid o’clock in the morning I was the first on board and sadly for me feeling rough as hell. I had only been out for a couple of beers the night before but something was disagreeing with me. As we made our way to the next pick up point I was fighting my body not to throw up within the first 1km of the 260km ahead. Thankfully I held it together ... read more

Ok so today we woke up and made our way down to Sorrento to catch the 12pm ferry across to Queenscliffe. (For you Tassie folk, thats going from one side of the bay across the heads to the other side. The crossing was really calm, we stayed in the van with Maxibon and slept the whole way, (unlike me, I know!!) Anyway, so when we got there.. The fun started!! The GPS woman kept getting herself confused (I'm still undecided as to how helpful they are at times :-S!). We began to head toward our destination, Torquay and ended up in Ocean Grove along the way. Whilst we were there we thought we'd fill up on fuel, get the gas bottles filled and do a food shop. We went to the local hardware store to get ... read more

So an early one for mum, up at 5am!! I however managed to stay in bed tell 7:30am. It was such a cold night it felt like we were sleeping ina icebox. I managed to get a heater out of the other camp before the rest of the crew set of to Bendigo for the next show. Left the showgrounds at about 9am with plans of going to the Great Ocean Road. Fist place to get through........ Torquay!! With a quick stop of at the supermarket for supplies we were on our way to the 12 apostles along the Great Ocean Road. The view of the coast line is beautiful. We were driving along the coast the whole way. I spotted some dolphins but mum missed them (as she is the driver!) but luckly we stopped ... read more

Another week, another late blog. I hope everyone is well. I'm sorry it's late again but we have been real busy in the last few weeks. So what have the van gang been up to since the last mammoth blog? Well, we started the great ocean road in Torquay as you saw from the previous blog. We spent a few days there just relaxing by the beach and recharging our batteries after being in Melbourne. Torquay is famous for Bells beach, which holds surf competitions and discount retail outlets. As you would imagine you get to know each other very well whilst living in a van 24/7 so we have now worked out that Martin loves hats and Fox Racing. So when we came across a “fox racing” discount shop with a $5 hat box that ... read more

The Great Ocean Rd. smo prevozile 8.in 9.12.2009. Dezevno jutro prvega dne ni obetalo nic dobrega, a nas ni prestrasilo. Ze pred 7. uro zjutraj smo zapuscale mesto in zajtrkovale ze v obmorskem mestecu Torquay. Smerokazi so nas pripeljali naravnost do parkirisca in mnozica turistov nas ... read more

There Are Easier Ways to See the Sights Prior to November 2008, I had never ridden a bike, but one day I walked into a bike store and asked them to point me in the direction of an entry level bicycle. I was determined that 2009 would be the Year of Fitness (until a couple of weeks ago turned it into Year of Travel - how things change!). So I spent the holidays training hard, with one event being the goal. I decided that my six month goal would be to complete the Great Ocean Road Otway Classic Ride 2009, a 145km bike ride from Torquay, down to Lorne and then back up the Great Ocean Road. Please keep in mind that i had not ridden 14km let alone 145km! The Great Ocean Road Otway Classic ... read more

13th August 2008 - Great Ocean Road We got picked up in a mini van from our hostel early in the morning for our day tour. Our first stop was Bells Beach which is a very famous surfing beach in the summer as the waves are collosal! We also had a quick stop at the lighthouse that was used in the kids tv programme Round The Twist - anyone remember that! I used to watch it loads! We had lunch in a picnic area where there were lots of birds - they landed on everyone! I did squeal when the first one landed but then I got used to it! They do have sharp claws though. The main attraction along the Great Ocean Road are the Twelve Apostles - of which there are only eight ... read more

So having spent a week with my cousins in Sydney (I'll write about Sydney in another blog), I decided I would take a flight to Melbourne - frequently voted the 2nd best city in the world to live from a quality of life perspective and it's easy to see why when it has churned out some of life's greats such as Mrs. Mangel, Harold Bishop and Helen Daniels. Don't pretend you don't know what/who I'm talking about. I know most of you would also have been glued to the television at 5:35 each evening to find out the latest gossip from Neighbour's Ramsey Street. Wanting to save the best till last however, I decided first to pick up the rental car and head south-west via Geelong and hit the Great Ocean Road. Hailed as one of ... read more

For those unaware, after I got back from New York in October, I decided to go back to Australia for 6-7 months to work as I have a work Visa until Aug 08. Arrived in Sydney few weeks after my decision, and have been working out here and living near Darling Harbour for the last few months.... For the Easter Break, I with a couple of friends travelled the Great Ocean Road in Victoria (near Melbourne). Claire (English friend met at work) and I flew from Sydney to Melbourne on the Wed night before Easter weekend, staying overnight before meeting up with another Pomme, Phil to spend a couple of days driving along the coast in the hire car we picked up at the airport. Great Ocean Road starts in Torquay (where Billabong and Rip Curl ... read more
