Great Ocean Road I had hired a car for my days in Melbourne and went straight to the Great Ocean Road. What a fantastic day of driving along this coastal highway. Even though the weather wasn't the best, the scenery was absolutely stunning. I drove all the way to Warmambool, where it started getting dark so I stayed for the night before heading back the same way the day afterwards. The next night was spent in Torquay, the surf capital of Australia, so I obviously had to try it out and hire a board. Lots of fun and actually managed to [View Full Entry]

So having spent a week with my cousins in Sydney (I'll write about Sydney in another blog), I decided I would take a flight to Melbourne - frequently voted the 2nd best city in the world to live from a quality of life perspective and it's easy to see why when it has churned out some of life's greats such as Mrs. Mangel, Harold Bishop and Helen Daniels. Don't pretend you don't know what/who I'm talking about. I know most of you would also have been glued to the television at 5:35 each evening to find out the latest gossip from [View Full Entry]

For those unaware, after I got back from New York in October, I decided to go back to Australia for 6-7 months to work as I have a work Visa until Aug 08. Arrived in Sydney few weeks after my decision, and have been working out here and living near Darling Harbour for the last few months.... For the Easter Break, I with a couple of friends travelled the Great Ocean Road in Victoria (near Melbourne). Claire (English friend met at work) and I flew from Sydney to Melbourne on the Wed night before Easter weekend, staying overnight before meeting up [View Full Entry]

G'day mate, We made a stop off in Warnambool after Robe so Rob could recover from driving a bit before hitting the great ocean road. It would take all day to drive because all the stop offs to look at the coast. Unfortunately, the one day we wanted good weather it was overcast, rainy and very windy, so stopping at the great rock formations that the GOR is famous for was a bit more challenging and not as fun in the rain and wind! They were quite impressive though. The 12 apostles (now 6) were the best sight. It took a [View Full Entry]

Tues 4th Dec: We planned to leave by 0800 but as I didn't wake until 0745 it was nearer 0900. We stopped for fuel and also empties the jerry can we'd carried through the outback. Got to the roundabout at the end of the road and went around it. Why am I telling you all this? Because as I went around it I heard Hayley scream from the back seat and turned to see the other passenger door open and my rucksack go flying into the road!!!! I pulled up onto the roundabout and Laz jumped out and retrieved it, my [View Full Entry]

With luggage stowed in the back of the wagon I was on the road early for the 8 hour haul down to Melbourne. Gene had provided directions that would have seen me on the highway back to Sydney rather than deliver me safely to his place in South Melbourne. Was it coincidence then that he phoned me on the road to explain that he had left Melbourne, not for Sydney but to spend the weekend in Torquay with a couple of friends. Sam entered the conversation and gave me some simple instructions to find Geelong where they would meet me, an [View Full Entry]

The tour continues this time into Victoria, where we are going to see the Great Ocean Road. The great ocean road actually starts nowhere near the sea, en route you are greeted with green fields and dairy cows. The tour guide asks if anyone has seen the sea, all I can see is green fields. Before you know it you go round a corner and are greeted with views of a rugged handsome coastline. In England the closest comparison to the great ocean road is Cornwall. While travelling down the coast I often drifted back to England. Just reiterate it the [View Full Entry]

Well here I am in Southern Australia! Melbourne is actually a really beautiful city. It's got the Yarra river running through it which is lined with attractive parks and expensive restaurants, and a nice boardwalk. At night, these tall columns let off flames on the hour in front of the huge Casino. It's been great so far. On my first day arriving, I took a walk down the river and managed to see a few sights that were listed in the lonely planet guide. The huge MCG, the boardwalk, and Federation Square all are accessible by the walk, and I managed [View Full Entry]

The reason that we went to Port Campbell was to see The Twelve Apostles. The Twelve Apostles are a group of natural limestone rocks that are just off the coast of Port Campbell on the Great Ocean Road. They have been naturally formed by erosion and waves pounding into them over the years. The one that looks like [View Full Entry]

G’day! Before I left the U.S., I was advised by nearly everyone who has visited Australia to “drive down the Great Ocean Road, it is amazing”—those people were 100% correct, it is absolutely amazing! The Great Ocean Road has been chosen (by multiple travel magazines) as the greatest scenic drive in the world. The Road stretches along the southern-most part of Victoria, Australia. The Road has some of the most breathtaking scenery that I have ever seen. I decided to make the 5 hour trip a three-day event. I left Melbourne the afternoon of Friday, January 12th with 7 other students [View Full Entry]
