Hello Folks,
We have decided to write a travel blog whilst we are away to keep all you lot (friends and family) up to date with our 12 month RTW adventure:
I (Matt) have been given the task (by Kate) of keeping this travel blog up to date whilst we are away. I will say that this website has not got spell check and therefore most words will be spelt incorrectly, however i'm sure Kate will not be short of words and will want to add/check it over/check my spelling mistakes before every blog entry.
So far I have handed my notice in at work and Kate has had a career break agreed, we've booked the tickets (how exciting), arranged storage and ........well thats it so far, however we've got loads of time to go and i needed to do important things like the travel blog, i mean who needs malaira tablets and travel insurance..........
So anyway, kindly Kates parent are having us to stay from the 21st September in order for us to spend 2 1/2 weeks saying our goodbyes to everyone. If your free at all during the time before we head off it would be great to see you. Give either Kate or myself a txt or call.
We fly out on Tuesday 6th October from Heathrow to follow the route below:
Vietnam
Singapore
Malaysia
Australia
New Zealand
Fiji
USA
I will post a couple of random pics on here just to make sure it's all working as it should.
Untill next time.....
Kate and Matt
Hi, I hope you are all doing well. So the last time, Kate left you with us about to board our flight to San Francisco from LA. Well, we flew with American Airlines and didn’t get any food as it was a mere 1 hour gate to gate so we sat tight and before we knew it, we were descending into San Fran. Once we landed and jumped off the plane, we headed straight to the car rental centre to pick up our rental car for the next 20 days. We originally pre booked a Ford Focus type car for the 3 weeks in California-Vegas but after about two minutes of seeing the Ford Mustang Convertible we decided to upgrade and ride in style whilst cruising the sunshine state of California. We got down to the

We landed by 8am and just had a few hours to kill before the second flight to Fiji. The second flight was a bit bumpy with a bit of a skid on the land, but it was fine and as we walked out of the arm of the plane and into the airport we felt the warmth and humidity again - it was lovely! I had booked the first night’s accommodation, so knew what we had to do at the airport to get our transfer. Matt followed me as I walked up to the desk (it’s usually Matt that does all this organising, so the roles were reversed!). I was greeted with “Bula”

We decided to go to Dunedin to see if we could somehow get our way into the up coming All Blacks Vs Wales rugby test on the 19th June. We arrived in Dunedin by driving past the famous Carrisbrook stadium which was flashing a big sign saying “SOLD OUT” which we took as no chance of getting a ticket, especially at it would be the last ever international test game held at the ground. After getting over the shock of the sell out we decided to head to one of our favourite stops, the info centre. Banj was driving BFS this day so he was circling trying to find a

Firstly well done to everyone who is still reading, do you know it has now been over 9 months that we have been away - so that is a lot of blogging! We really appreciate everyone who is still reading, and sending us messages, its so good to hear what is going on in your lives. So last blog left us on the Ferry journey leaving the North Island. Matt made it off without being sick and I was loving the wonderful scenery as we meandered around the luscious green islands and into Picton, it was very different to a Dover to Calais crossing as the captain actually had

After hitting the hay at the end of our extreme sports day we awoke to a rather wet and windy Taupo, but this didn’t dampen our spirits so we put on the wet weather gear and headed to Huka Falls just outside Taupo which is an amazing water fall pouring 200,000 gallons of water every second, now that’s one natural power shower. After the falls we had a spot of lunch near a hydro electric dam, which to be fair was a little disappointing as we expected a more spectacular flow but it was more of a steady stream but anyway afterwards we went to the “Honey Hive” bee

We got our flight from Perth to Melbourne and spent 6 hours in Melbourne airport, met up with our good friend Ben and Cerri and boarded our final flight to the magical land of New Zealand. We landed in Auckland on the North Island (the most populated city in New Zealand with a mere 1.4 million inhabitants) and our first stop was the Motor home rental company we had booked with for the next 6 weeks of our adventure. We jumped into a taxi and headed to Apollo rental greeted by a large German lady, we checked over the Van

Right, I know you are all busy people, well apart from Banj and Cerri (if you don’t know them, you will next blog) but it would be GREAT for us if you would let us know what’s happening in your world. Even if you have nothing to say, just say hi. I’m not sure if anyone apart from our families are reading this anymore and we tell them everything on the phone anyway….. Are you in the shadows of the blog? Come out into the light and say hi……… So, we were in Ubud last time I wrote. We spent the day out and about on the moped and first stop was the much anticipated Monkey Forest. We rocked up at the forest and paid to go in, about £1.30

We decided to make the most of being close to Bali (3 hour flight) and check it out for 3 weeks before our New Zealand adventure begins. So, we left the blog last time after selling Harry to the two Israelis and finding a hostel to stay in around Perth. Now after living in Harry, and at Jan’s house, for a number of months we have not needed to use the back packs, so as we tried to pack all our things up we soon realised that we had accumulated a lot of extra things. We waved off Harry and whilst carrying our big bulging backpacks on our backs, our smaller daypacks on our fronts and both carrying plastic bags

So basically, just to explain, I know there has been many complaints that I haven’t done a blog for the past couple of months but it’s just because we have not had a massive amount of news to report on a weekly basis, however looking over my notes of what has happened there has been a number of funny happenings. So without further ado I‘ll start. Kate finished off the last blog at the end of our bush tucker Canoe adventure (thanks again Sam it was a fab day). After that we spent a couple more days in Margaret river. We had decided we should find a little work to help fund some of this trip, so we had a think and decided we wanted to work together, work in a

We have been tucked away in the South West corner of Oz for the last week. After having a great time in Esperance we headed to Albany, which was 387km. In Albany we generally chilled out, relaxed and took it easy for a few days without driving around (which can be hard in an old van), so you guessed it we headed to the beach! It was lovely as they all are in WA but after enjoying swimming in the water, we were relaxing in the sunshine on the beach, when Matt read in the paper that a shark had been spotted here just 4 days before! It didn’t put us off though,
