Reflecting on where you were a couple of weeks ago is good for the soul as you travel ....I look back at the photos and my notes and experience the hospitality, friendships ,food , city scapes and landscapes all over again! Tucked away in narrow country lanes lined with tall firs and eucalyptus trees we approached my “home from home” in the the Adelaide Hills through banks of camellias. Sue and Bryan , my hosts were Home exchange partners and they made me very welcome including Me in their daily life. So it was off to Adelaide city as it was Market day ...what a fabulous market from fruit and veg, flowers and coffee to cannoli and cheeses.... everything you could ask for and always so colourful. Adelaide felt like a small enough city centre to ... read more

Time flies when you are enjoying yourself. So long since I got a Blog in that I cannot remember when it was. We have been very very busy the past two weeks. On getting to Adelaide we just spent one night at the BIG ROCKING HORSE - photo attached. It is not a caravan park or park over, but kindly Lyn (my cousin) and her husband Frans let us stay as we pleased. The Rocking Horse is an Aussie ICON. Everyone you talk to knows of it right down to Melbourne. Apart from the horse there is a very nice restaurant (open during the day), a souvenir shop and a zoo with local wildlife. From there we drove about 400 km north to the Flinders Ranges and spent 5 days driving and traveling around in the ... read more

Hi Everyone, We had a quiet morning at their house, before leaving for the city around 11.30am. We picked up lunch and snacks from Coles, before heading into the Oval for England Vs Bangladesh Cricket at 2pm. It was a brilliant experience despite losing. We had great seats, as they were looking diagonally on to the wickets and the sun setting behind our heads all afternoon so we were warm but not blinded at any point. I managed to have the briefest of chats with Joe Root, (Carrie from school is currently seeing him). We didn’t leave until 22.10pm, so we raced to the train station to get the 10.30pm back to Seaford. Unfortunately the train wasn’t running until 11pm so we headed into the city so Neil could get some food. As we got back ... read more

Waking up at the Rocky Paddock campsite on Mount Crawford Camp was fantastic but boy it was cold. The camp fire we had was amazing, it was probably burning until about 4.00am this morning and was so big it could have been seen by an overflying Satellite, but it needed to be as last night was brass monkey weather. Did I hear you say how cold? I'll tell you how cold, when we got in to bed, with hot water bottles deployed, we shut the roof down on Gypsy, so it made our sleeping quarters even smaller and thus warmer, with an extra Blanket x2 on top of the Doona (Quilt) and our Faux Bear Rug we hunkered down and snuggled in to each other to stay warm. I only had a bottle of beer last ... read more

Thursday 11th Today we left the great little camp (not to mention the great wineries) and headed for Adelaide. We had seen on a map that there was a platypus sanctuary in the Adelaide Hills (not far from Mount Barker) and since we had not seen a living platypus, we gave Tom Tom some instructions to take us to the park. The first turn off from the highway came up a bit quick as I had a truck right on my tail. However, our well mannered Tom realised after a couple of promptings that I couldn't 'Do a U Turn when possible' on a busy main road. A short time later he gave us instructions which we followed diligently and crossed Mount Barker, then zig zagged our way through parts of South Australia rarely seen by ... read more

Beautiful clear blue skies and a chilly breeze, but the gardens were on show. Started at the Upper Car Park and wended our way down to bottom Car Park and return. The brochure said steep pathways and they were right. Could have spent longer there and will next time in October for Rhododendron display. Will remember coinage for Pay and Display (free today). Also will return for autumn tones in April - May... read more

Mount Lofty which is the highest peak in the Mount Lofty ranges is a popular tourist destination among local and international tourists. These mountains provide the much needed respite to the citizens of Adelaide during hot summers. Mount Lofty was first climbed by a European named Collet Barker in the year 1831 even before the city of Adelaide came into existence. The summit is around 710 meters above sea level and is around 20 minute drive from Adelaide. The view of the Adelaide city from the peak of the Mount Lofty is truly amazing and breathtaking. Not only Adelaide can be seen, other surroundings can also be seen easily during clear skies. On clear days people on the peak can see as far as Kangaroo Island. The authorities in South Australia knows the tourist potential Mount ... read more

Woke up this morning feeling nauseous and jittery....knowing that was going to start packing and working out what needs to be done before heading off. OMG - 3 more sleeps left in my own bed. Not quite hovering yet though (inside joke...Jenny & Emma would get it)...lol. Maybe tomorrow. Bag is now mostly packed and yay...have surprised myself (and Alex) that bag is well under-weight (shame I can't say the same about myself though hey??). Now am worried about what I have missed cos if I have room left over in my case - something is missing- right? Ah - who cares, what I don't have I either have to do without or buy over there. Anyway, kids tell me they are gonna give me some 'things to do' while I am away. A list apparently ... read more

So ... today is Easter. We are currently WWOOFING in Summertown in the Adelaide Hills and the hosts have gone away for the weekend so house sitting for us it is! Did the usual chicken feeding and letting out of the older chickens just before 9 - then dog walk time! Back to the house after this to chill for a bit, and try and keep warm! Grandad and Brenda popped up at 11ish to drop off some Easter eggs and hot cross buns and we gave them a tour of the property. We then had lunch and stuff and found ourselves being a little hyper and dancing our little butts off which helped us to keep warm!... read more
