We had no reason to get up early the next day so we had a bit of a sleep in and woke to a lovely surprise. One of the people we had met on the cruise (who was in a van just a few doors down) was heading west to Kununurra and had left all of her fruit and vegetables for us. Lovely lady! We left Timber Creek and had no plans past Katherine (which wasn't so far) so when we came across the escarpment walk (just out of Victoria River Roadhouse) it was an easy choice. There is a rumour going around the Kimberley that all of the good lookouts and similar have been closed so as to make visitors take scenic plane trips to get a feel of the land from up high. We continue to find surprises on our journey through the outback. Before leaving Daly Waters this morning, we went to take the obligatory photo of the hotel. Across the road from the hotel is a shack of sorts, adorned with quirkiness. There are numerous signs, a helicopter on the roof, and grave markers. The more you look, the more you find. They boast the only traffic light in central Australia, which is permanently on red. Further down the highway at Larrimah, is the Pink Panther Pub. We stopped for a coffee and did a short walk through their free zoo. Rather sad really. But we did see some live kangaroos. All the buildings are painted bright pink. We realize they are trying to catch the attention of passing motorists, but all in all it was tacky. ... read more

DAY 223 Morning broke a little bit later than usual, well that is that we are 1 ½ hours ahead from what had become normality for us. I peeled open an eye and looked at my watch it was 7.30, Andy was still lying in bed, that usual 6.00 start for Andy was an 1 ½ hours late, which would be about the right time in WA considering our new time difference. We decided to stay in until 8.00, outside we can hear people moving around and the usual sound of people packing up and getting ready to leave for their next destination. We both got up and soon the kettle was whistling and the tea was made, this morning was an easy breakfast of cereal, not much to do really as we just need to ... read more

Saturday 26th April: Westward towards Exmouth, we just got off the dirt road before the rain started. Into the hospital to get the cook fixed up. Then fill up the food and fuel and head around to the west side of the cape to Ningaloo Reef. Wow, what a place. Turquoise water and coral reef right at your door. Picked a nice camp area (Neds Camp). Set-up camp and started fishing. Two nice sized Trevally before sunset. Next day put the boat in tried to find some more fish, but looks like they had all gone away. Tried again the next day and ended up with one or two nice sized Spangled Emperor each day. Leonie caught the most, of course. Even got the biggest one at 63cm long. Caught lots of sharks and saw even ... read more

Sunday 24 June 2007 Well it’s been a few days since I have had anything to write (or truthfully been bothered). Apart from catching up with the other crazy family (Rebeccah and Anthony, Jack and Ivy) at Edith Falls we haven’t actually done much. We have however broken the dry season over here. I think we have had crappy weather or rain for nearly a week now (and don’t you Canberra people say anything), its getting rather annoying. Can’t do too much with Ethan if you don’t want to let him anywhere near the huge mud puddles (by the time you read this we may just have thrown him in ourselves….stay tuned for photo’s). Anywho, we did spend 2 nights at Edith Falls and felt like locals because it was our second time there. We ... read more

Day 113 Monday 24 July 2006 Kununurra to Timber Creek Duane was very sad to leave today as he has meet up with a great mate named Flynn from Catanning WA. He was the same age and he is staying in Kununurra for five weeks whilst his Dad is working. We left about 9am and drove about 220 km’s. We had to drove over the border to NT meaning we had to advance our watches 1 ½ hours which felt really unusual. We stayed at Horse Creek Campground at Gregory National Park which is a spot that only costs you $7.70 for the whole family. No showers though but very clean toilets considering they were bush toilets. At 7.30pm the ranger has a slideshow of the park which was good to see as we were not ... read more

So found a job in roadhouse 300ks away from darwin doing what have been doing slaving in hot conditions in a pub/kitchen. Yey.... the good thing though was that me and Jess shared work, it wasn't just Jess doing all the hard work and me sitting on my lazy arse all day flirting with all the punters (of which there were none in whole 3weeks). Unfortunately we worked seperate shifts so any fun things we could do we couldn't (neither of us was going trekking into the outback on a walk in bush). So we either worked and sweated, read our books, watched a movie or kept talking about leaving the next day and buggering the earning of money (but we needed it so it was all talk), but that was an every day conversation..... so ... read more
