On Friday, Dad got home at about 16:00 and we got all of the camping things out and packed them into bags and boxes. We packed the car up and set off down to New South Wales. We got stuck in a bit of a traffic jam so came off the highway at Nerang and got pizza for dinner. We had a ham and mushroom pizza and then we tried a dessert pizza. It was a pizza base with chocolate on it and dusted with icing sugar. It was quite nice. We got back onto the highway and drove the rest of the way to Hastings Point and the campsite. When we got there, we checkd in at reception and then set up our tents in the dark. We were on plot number 6, which was ... read more

Day 48 - Tweed Heads to Tamborine Mountain Up we get with a couple of different missions in mind this morning, sorting the fridge out and sorting our return flights out! The flight organisation proves real easy, it seems that we have one free of charge change and now that we’ve cancelled the originally booked dates we’re ok to re-book whenever we want to. We need to organise with Mum and Dad Kettle when they’ll be able to get out here and we’re also going to have a chat with the visa people and see if it’s possible for us to go to NZ and then return to Oz before we finally head home. We’ve got a multi entry visa so we’re now thinking that we might change our plans for the final sections of our ... read more

Day 47 - Tweed Heads and Surfers Paradise Blimey it was a cold night last night! It makes us think what we’ll do when we’ve got no power and therefore no little electric fan heater!! Don the flannelette pj’s again I suppose and get another blanket! The Big 4 site at Tweed Heads is pleasant enough with friendly and helpful staff but on initial inspection the site itself doesn’t pull many punches other than the ones flying over your head late at night and early in the morning! There is a billabong though so we’ll try and explore any wildlife tomorrow before we pack up and leave. Today started with a whale watching cruise with the ‘Aquatic Blue’ team of Tony, Carol and Orianna. We caught the boat from the Tweed Heads and Coolangatta Gold Club ... read more

The weather lately (now that the rain has stopped) has been great. It's been around 30 degrees and sunny, not that humid, and it getting a bit cooler at night, it has even hit down to 13 degrees. Brrrrr! If this is Autumn (still can't stop saying Fall and then people look at you strangely here), we will take it, definately! After another couple weeks of working for Brett and the skatepark is pretty much done. He is on his last 2 days at the moment, and then we are heading back to Byron Bay for a couple weeks of chilling out and surfing before we head to the next one.... but more about that later. Don't like to think about work to soon... We were very excited to see some familiar faces arrive last week; ... read more

Wel, not much to report the last couple weeks, but thought we would put a few pics up. Brett's been working pretty much 6 days a week, and is about week and half or so away from finishing the skatepark. I have been doing some freelance work, and checking things out, so we haven't been up to alot other than that. We did go to Byron Bay for a day which is only about 40 minutes south of us, and it was so nice and sunny and beautiful down there, can't wait to get back there for a while. Even saw Jack Johnson coming in from a surf session at the Pass. Our quiet little caravan park has turned into a zoo since it is the easter long weekend. Everyone seems to take the following week ... read more

We made the aprox 900km drive up from Wollongong to Tweed Heads, our home for the next while as Brett builds a skatepark up this way, over 2 days. We stopped about 2/3 of the way up just past Coffs Harbour at Corindi Beach. And for a change, it was sunny and warm in this area! Not sure why but we always seem to hit this area when it seems to be flooding and pouring rain. We had missed the floods and rains this time by a few weeks thankfully. Our spot in Tweed Heads is in a nice little caravan park with a pool and we are right in front of a billabong (a.k.a. pond) where there are ducks and fish jumping. The water is quite brown at the moment in the tidal pond, because ... read more

It was sadly quite exciting to be getting our hair done. We hadn’t been in one place for long enough to get an appointment which had been driving Matt mad as his hair had been getting longer and longer, so he had started growing a beard in protest. By lunchtime I left with lovely sleek, smooth hair, and he looked smart and clean at last (apart from his dodgy beard which he promised to shave off ). We decided to avoid spending any more money so went to the beach to enjoy the sun. The sand was busy compared with other beaches we’d seen but the atmosphere was amazing. It had the vibe of Peranporth but the sun was hotter, the sea was a more intense blue and the waves much higher. It definitely looked like ... read more

An adventure unfolds... Joel returned home after staying with my aunty Laurie & uncle Rob in Jacksonville, Florida trapped in their house waiting for hurricane Fay to pass. He was there on a mission of goodwill after a holiday of his own picking up a 35kg suitcase full of goods that I had purchased in Africa a few months earlier. He was to be staying overnight only...but this never happened! The next 4 days were spent drinking Ricardo's mango rum with Laurie & Rob watching the rain & sharing stories on the crisis in American politics, it's financial impact on unemployment & the domino of misfortunes around the globe. Anyway, the 3 of them had alot of fun together & Rob shared some of his adventures he's endured sailing. They struck a common thread as this ... read more
