What happened to us? Oceania
Don't worry, we are still here, we just haven't had alot to update you with this last month as we have been pretty much doing alot of the same stuff, which unfortunately doesn't make for the most exciting blog update, but here goes... We have managed to fall into a pretty good routine this last month, it's amazing where the time has actually gone (does that mean we are getting old when we start saying that??!). This month has pretty much consisted of some beach time, swimming, going to the gym, a few trips up to the Gold Coast to see [View Full Entry]

Us and another tough day
A flat day and a little dude out there on a stand up paddle board

Movieworld is one of the 5 themeparks on the Gold Coast (Dreamworld, White Water World and SeaWorld and Wet n' Wild), and is a Hollywood themed funpark with a mix of rollercoasters, kids rides, shows and all the Warner Brothers characters as well as different Hollywood starlet characters and American Diners and Clint Eastood's Dirty Harry Saloon. We had plans to meet up with Brett's cousin Mick and his wife Nicky, their daughter Maddy as well as Nicky's Mom, stepdad and uncle at Movieworld for a day of rides. It was great to catch up with everyone since we hadn't seen [View Full Entry]

Happy Anniversary! Oceania » Australia
Hungry Jacks otherwise known as Burger King in Canada
Hungry Jacks otherwise known as Burger King in Canada
The story goes that when Burger King went to expand into Australia, the name was already taken by a restaurant in Adelaide.
Well if you can believe it, and we can't... it's been 2 years on October 12th that we arrived down under. We really can't believe where the time has gone, and really can't believe our original plan of 6 months holiday and being on the road has somehow turned into 2 years, with a bit of work in between here and there. Things are really similiar in a lot of ways to Canada, but then not so much in other ways. Things are more expensive on the whole, but on some things by the time you work out the exchange (CAD [View Full Entry]

Brett's favorite beer
Local Pines (pineapples), Macadamias and Avos (avocadoes)
Brett enjoyed his new found love of Corriander Lime Seafood Sauce, along with an old standby from North America - Ketchup. And yes there is a big difference between tomato sauce and ketchup.

On the road again Oceania » Australia » Queensland
Well the time had finally come - we were actually leaving Bowen! What was originally supposed to be 10-12 weeks for the skatepark, turned into just over 4 months. We did actually really enjoy it there, even though it was a pretty small town and things were a bit more expensive there, the people were super friendly, the beaches amazing and such a great area for exploring, and the weather was fabulous. Still can't believe that was winter!! There was hardly a day we had to put a sweatshirt/jumper on and we barely saw any rain in the 4 months. It [View Full Entry]

Meanwhile... back in Bowen, Brett was going a bit stir crazy on his crutches, trying to run the job from the couch, with his leg up. At least the skatepark is almost done and he is actually doing really well. He even snuck out in the truck a few times while I was away... The day I flew back in from Canada, our friend Tarra (a.k.a. TP), flew up from Melbourne for her 2 week school holiday. We haven't seen her as much as we did the first year we were here so will be good to catch up, plus then [View Full Entry]

Well, the last place I thought I would be going again was back to Canada...again. This time for only 3 days, and leaving Brett and his crutches to fend for himself in Bowen. But seems that is the way lawyers and insurance companies work... nevermind that I had just been there a month and half ago.... anyways, we will just leave it at that, and it is all sorted now (do you like my aussie talk?), so was worth it to get it all over with 4 years later. It was a whirlwind 3 days, with it taking just as long [View Full Entry]

The good life Oceania » Australia » Queensland » Bowen
We barely had a chance to settle back into our unit in Bowen, and next thing we know Brett's parents, Mike and Robyn who were here for a few more days still decided to surprise us with a little change of scenery for the next couple days. Well maybe not the scenery so much, but definitly an upgrade in accommodations for 2 nights! On their daily walk to the beach at Horseshoe Bay, they decided to pop into the Coral Cove Apartments just for a little look, and next thing they knew the manager was showing them a couple rooms and [View Full Entry]

Stingapore Asia » Singapore
Well. What can we say. The first day and a half of what was supposed to be a quick 3 day trip for the opening of the skatepark Brett built last year in Singapore, was good... We got into Singapore in the afternoon, and made our way to the hotel we were booked into and met up with the rest of the crew from Brett's work that were flying in from their Melbourne office. It was a good flight over, it went fast and Terminal 3 at the Singapore Airport which we had never been too, was amazing as everyone says [View Full Entry]

The past few weeks Oceania » Australia » Queensland » Bowen
The last few weeks here in Bowen have seen the weather heating up here in Bowen (or maybe it is just the humidity rising), and the water temperature getting warmer as well. The water in Horseshoe Bay is now back up to around 24 degrees, just about perfect! More flowers are starting to come out now that we are moving into Spring soon, and the work on the skatepark is still progressing. Hopefully should be done in another couple weeks. Brett's parents also arrived from Vancouver for 2 weeks, so they have been loving the area and the beaches and walking [View Full Entry]

Strawberry picking, or as it is called "Pick Ya Own - Bloody Awesome Flavour!"
Some of the biggest passion fruit I have ever seen, they were the huge!
Robyn in front of their campsite cooking breakfast. Not a bad view.

Since we had done a 3 day sailing trip back when we first got to Australia with my brother and Maggie, we decided we didn't really want to be crammed back into little bunks in a hot sweaty room for 3 days, with an overflowing toilet next to us, drinking warm wine and beer, eating canned potatoes (which we didn't even know the had, but guess when you are serving dinner to 30 people, it's easier than peeling potatoes?), so we decided to splurge a little and to see the Whitsunday Islands and The Great Barrier Reef from another perspective - [View Full Entry]
