In between both of us working like crazy still, we managed to have a bit of the fun the last couple months. We tried to do a few trips on our 1 day off a week, and went to Dandenong Ranges, out towards the coast and the start of the Great Ocean Road for some much needed beach time, some yoga and then of course sourcing out the best spots to eat in Melbourne and think we have found quite a few of them (which then leads to more Bikram Yoga!). But the best part of the last couple months was when Brett's parents came over from Vancouver for his sister's 40th birthday. They spent almost a month over here but we had trouble keeping tabs on them! One day they would be in Wollongong, the ... read more

You know it is going to happen but it still seems a shock that before we knew it the last month in Thailand seemed a bit like a distance memory and we were back in Australia and back to work! We made it back to Sydney and had a much better flight than on the way there as we were on a different airline (which was probably a good thing as the one we had flow to Thailand on (Air Australia) went under a couple weeks after we got back. They didn't last long!) And it wasn't that bad as it was summer and we had our new caravan to go back to. Even if was jsut for a week, and as usual when we go back to Wollongong it seems to be a very fast ... read more

After leaving Mike and Kari and Koh Ngai, we were heading north to another small island (this time with roads) called Koh Yao Yai. Our journey there was a bit of a trek for not really being to far away, it was just a bit harder to get to. From Koh Ngai we caught a 9:30am speedboat back to Koh Lanta and had time for lunch at the pier at our usual spot for the best Pad Thai and pineapple fried rice. From here, we got on a larger ferry that was heading to Railay Beach. Of course being on Thai time it didn't leave on time and was almost an hour late leaving so we were a bit worried about catching our connecting boat to Koh Yao. No need to worry though as they seem ... read more

Leaving Koh Lanta we were headed next to Koh Ngai which is a small island south of Koh Lanta and took about an hour to get there via speedboat. We were originally going to get picked up at LaLaanta and then it was only about a 20 minute boat ride but the water was to rough so that meant we had to go back to Saladan Pier at the Northern tip of the island and the boat had to go on the east side of Koh Lanta which was protected from the open ocean and calmer. Koh Ngai is a small island with only a handful of resorts mostly on the east side of the island and there are no cars or scooters and no roads at all. All traveling is done either by walking or ... read more

Well the day had finally arrived! And no we don't mean Christmas.... The Sock had arrived in Thailand! (Mike for everyone who doesn't know him, and of course he didn't come alone, Kari too!) Mike and Kari arrived from Vancouver via LA, Bangkok, Krabi and then finally Koh Lanta on the afternoon Christmas Eve. And Christmas Eve being the bigger celebration than Christmas Day itself, preparations were in full swing at La Lanta. Still didn't really feel like Christmas but I am sure we can get into the swing of things! The resort put on a huge buffet filled with Thai specialties, alongside a couple roast turkeys, salads and probably every kind of seafood you could imagine. It was amazing. Along with the guests staying there which is about 40 people probably, some of the staff ... read more

We arrived at Koh Lanta and had about an hour before our ride picked us up so we made our way to the "@ Pier Restaurant" which was you guessed it at the pier for some lunch. We had eaten there last time and it was some of the best and cheapest Pad Thai and Pineapple Fried Rice we had on the trip and this time they didn't let us down either. For that, spring rolls and 2 Cokes it was about 8 bucks and delicious! We made a quick stop at the Catfish Bookstore just down from there to stock up on a few books for the next couple weeks but didn't have much luck and they seemed a bit more expensive than last time. Our ride found us at the Bookstore and then we ... read more

After packing up our new home on wheels, we flew down to Melbourne for 5 days for some work meetings for both of us and catching up with a few friends. It was a whirlwind few days and before we knew it we were sitting in the terminal at Melbourne airport waiting for our flight to Thailand, which was an event in itself. Let's just say it was the 2nd day of a new discount airline called Air Australia taking to the skies so there definitely were more than a few kinks to be worked out. Signs were still being put up; we were in the very end of the airport in a wing I am sure had just been brought out of retirement; the flight was delayed 2 1/2 hours with no announcements because there ... read more

What is it they say? The first step is admitting you have a problem?! Well not sure we actually had a problem persay.... but we did realise that maybe for the last while (couple years even) we have probably been in denial.... Denial that our 1984 caravan was almost 30 years old (is it really??!)... Denial that that we were looking a little white trashy (especially now that we had a new truck)... Denial that perhaps 14ft isn't quite enough space (especially when we seem to be coming and going with luggage all the time lately from one job to the next) So perhaps it was time to move on? It all started with some rain, a few leaks (well sometimes more than a few...), our bags being everywhere since we were leaving again in a ... read more

Some pictures of the mostly finished skatepark Brett and the guys did in Port Mac. Just a bit of landscaping left to do. It looks amazing and the town was really supportive and excited about it which was really great to see. It's right on the waterfront in a park close to the main surf beach in town and with a caravan park backing up to it. You couldn't pick a better spot.... read more

If our visitors from Canada weren't enough, we have had many frequent visits from kookaburra's, wild bush turkey's (and no I am not talking about my Dad), so many lizards that you have to watch where you step sometimes and even a few koalas in the wild. We also had Brett's aunt and uncle, Shelly and Dennis come up for a week visit and they stayed in the caravan park right next door to our apartment. So with them coming up that meant partaking in a few happy hours or 2 and trying to knock of work early. It was also Melbourne Cup Day which in Australia is pretty much an national holiday (and definitely is a stat holiday down in Melbourne!). Most businesses shut down at the very least for the afternoon when the horse ... read more
