03 Sep 2007 Preparing to leave so monday was the day of picking up our visas for the ukraine. what a shithouse place to deal with, the ukrainian embassy. stopped at the information center on nourthbourne ave first and picked up a few momentos of australia, or canberra, more specifically. then on to the ukrainian embassy. susan had been there twice before and hated the experience both times. the ol stick at the counter must only be there as the wife of someone in there because she lacks any personality you would think someone representing a country would have. highly dislikable woman. i mainly dealt with a big young bloke, and he wasnt too bad. we were told to pick up our visas on monday 3rd september, so bright and early there we were at the ... read more

Well after a couple of lovely days at Lake Macquarie we are safely home. Overall it has been a great trip and has given us a taste for more. The weather was disappointing, as was the fishing but we did see a lot of places and have added a lot on our to do list. After spending so much time in the camper in wet conditions we are serioulsy looking at upgrading to a more solid unit before we set off again. ... read more

Hi All, Well it looks like we are not meant to fish in the Tweed River. After sitting it out for a few wet days we gave up as the forecast was not good. We headed to Port Macquarie for the night and caught up with Bruce and Gwen Walker. The weather turned quite wild and the winds had caused some considerable damage on the way from Tweed to Port. We had to stop just south of Grafton as there was water on the highway and they were only lettting one lane through at a time. The wind had flatteded the cane fields and there was water everywhere in the paddocks and trees down all over the place. We are now at Largs which is just outside of Maitland and it is still raining. We are staying ... read more

Hi all, Apparently I haven't made it clear that the Fraser Island Photos are under the Fraser Island journal entry and not the entry for Photos at Last. We have been sitting here watching and listening to the rain falling. It has rained quite heavily since yesterday so we will have to sit it out here for a while until the camper dries out. We have not even been able to get the boat out yet so no fish photos. We might go and have a look at some campervans this afternoon just to fill in some time. Nick the National Geographics are a godsend. Well off to watch the rain falling. Love Maree ... read more

Sorry folks we had trouble getting the photos on for Fraser, but they are there now. We are now at Tweed Heads and when we got the camper up the rain came down. It is not too heavy though but we haven't been fishing yet. Hopefully next phot will be of the big fish that I caught. I am worried about John, they are selling Mazda BT50 4WD for $29990 on road up here so it is possible that we will come home in a new car. Cheers Maree and John... read more

Well we had two nights and three days on Fraser and thoroughly enjoyed it. Another thing to cross off our list of things to do before we die. We stayed at Eurong Beach resort which is on the East Coast with access straight onto the beach. It was incredible how many people were camping over there and how, on such a long stretch of beach the fishermen were all congregated in a 500 metre radius. Apparently the taylor were schooling at this particular spot. John did catch a nice trevally on his new beach rod but threw it back as we had no way of keeping it fresh. The beach is so clean and the sand is so fine. We didn't do a lot of travelling inland on the island as it was pretty rough but ... read more

Hi to anyone that is still hanging in there. We are off to Fraser tomorrow morning at 8.00am. We have booked into Eurong Resort for two nights so are looking forward to a couple of days driving around Fraser and doing some beach fishing. John even bought a beach rod today for the occasion. We are taking Ann and Bernies Mighty Mitsubishi L?? which is just awesome as otherwise we would have had to hire a 4wd. We will hopefully have some nice pictures to post by the time we get back. As usual the perfect hostesses have thought of everything and we have had an awesome few days with them. Love to all and thanks for hanging in on our blog.... read more

It's winter in Australia and, contrary to what the Australian tourist board would have you believe, that means it's pretty cold in Canberra and Sydney! We've been consoling ourselves by learning cross-country skiing in the Snowy Mountains - where they've had lots of snow this year - and with a wonderful visit from Simon's sister Suzanne and friend Lynne.... read more
