Wow... No alarm clock, no blackberry, no ccalls, no meetings, nothing but a move from WI to storage and Naperville. Since tomorrow is moving day and day one of my new life sans corporate life, it seemed appropriate to make my first entry ( and only one from WI!) Many people seem to be curious as to what exactly I am doing and why I am doing it so I thought I would answer a few of the basic questions: 1)Why the heck am I quitting a good job that pays good money after 9 years? *** The super short answer is I am really tired and I can... *** The longer answer is I am rapidly approaching 40, had planned on being out of corp usa and running my own company by 35 (yes, I ... read more

OK, got the blog thing figured out and here are my pictures from the adventure so far! I started my Wisconsin visit with Jessica and her 4 maniac kids! That's GOOD maniac, not bad. :) I'm glad we got them to sit still for 0.3 seconds to take a picture! Next you see me and Alyssa loving the Game of Life. I won with a 2.8million dollar net worth - see it pays to go to college! Then we followed my Mason to his barefoot water skiing contest on Peshtigo Lake, and on to the shack where I had to pump the water for my family! What year is this anyways? Last, but not least, see me and Tammy being the harder, better, faster, stronger Packer fans at Lambeau! Yay football!... read more

The timing of our flight in the afternoon meant that there was not a lot of time to do much in the morning so we spent the time shopping. Our friends took us to some of the out-of-town shops. The prices were shockingly low compared to the UK, although we still need to remember to add the taxes on. The food was also seriously cheap, with bottomless soft drinks and bottomless chips (proper "fat chips" and not those usual stringy fries), neither of which we get back home. I avoided the horrid liquid cheese. Milwaukee was only a small airport, but there are flights to Toronto, so it saved us having to go back to Chicago to fly from there. When we arrived at our hotel in Toronto we had been given a room upgrade to ... read more

Milwaukee is famous for a number of things. It’s the home of Harley Davidson, it’s an historic brewing town and it's the centre of America's main dairy region. Obviously the brewery connection was of most interest to me - until I have my midlife crisis and decide to get a Harley Davidson - so our friends and I went on a free tour of the Miller brewery, whilst my wife took the kids to the Children’s museum. At the start of the tour we saw a video about the history of Miller and the brewing process. The video and tour was heavily pushing the "Miller time" message and the worrying thing was that after a while we started to believe it. At the end of the tour we got some free samples of Miller Highlife (the ... read more

Corse Superbike, Saukville - Cedarburg 11Jul07 The mechanic at Motoprimo in Minneapolis told me to visit Corse Superbike shop in Saukville. When I arrived I was in Italian racing heaven. Old race bikes are displayed on a catwalk above the parts counter. There's an espresso bar (use to be a restaurant) in the centre store and they had Aprilias, Ducatis and MV Agusta bikes everywhere. There was even the newly released Hypermotard (based on my bike) to throw a leg over. Awwwrgh... I need to upgrade! Actually I had a legitimate reason for visiting; I needed to pickup tie-down straps but more about that later. BMW Rally 13Jul07 While reserving my ferry across Lake Michigan, I discovered West Bend was hosting the International BMW Motorcycles Owners Association Rally and was only 75 miles away. Well ... read more

So now we enter into a more relaxing side of our trip with a stop in Milwaukee to visit one of Jimmy's mates Paul from the 18th to the 28th April. We flew into Chicago and caught a bus to Milwaukee to arrive in 4 degrees celcius weather to a bus stop at the Amtrak Station...which was undergoing renovations and so it was basically in the middle of nowhere!! Paul picked us up from the station and we went to one of the local pubs in the area for a couple of beers before turning in for the night. Want to say another huge thank you to Paul who put up with having Jimmy and me stay with him for 10 days in his studio apartment!! (See pic) Milwaukee is on Lake Michigan...and that thing ... read more

Ironically, Becca was the one who told me about G Love playing in Milwaukee. It was a long time ago, but I got a ticket eventually (still haven't learned my lesson I guess... Always buy two tickets!) but it was meant to be bc... well I'll get to that part. I thought I would be at least a little late... because I didn't end up leaving Beloit until 815 and the show was supposed to start at 8. They never do... sure, but it's still over an hour to Milwaukee. I think I got there around 940. The Eagles Club, or "The Rave" as they call it now, is much like most of Milwaukee. Old, jumbled and confused. Plain brick on the outside, plain on the inside. They could have used it as a meat locker ... read more

Greetings! Have you ever felt the chains of bondage breaking? My traveling has officially has begun! I've left my home and job and friends in Ohio and have space and time in front of me to explore the world a bit. Most of my possessions went to Goodwill or other people. It was bittersweet to leave 'my' acreage, but sometimes you just have to start over. That has been quite liberating. I've never felt so free in my life. My first stop was Milwaukee for the Midwest Social Forum (http://www.mwsocialforum.org/). I am so glad I went because it was amazing. In a nutshell the forum is a meeting of progressive movements and groups addressing issues ranging from human rights, social justice, racism, privatization of public resources, environmentalism, to media problems, political corruption, and abuse of corporate ... read more

Having googled a "study abroad korea blog", I stumbled upon one of the bloggers at this site. So many other bloggers who are traveling in Korea, I can find some way to spend the last seven days before I leave. Leaving through airplane has me worried. I suppose I'm always the follower, not the leader, so to guide myself through the airports will be the first of my challenges :) What I have packed is 6 days worth of clothing for both winter and summer; all in one bulging suitcase. Then there's my empty backpack... having taken out all of my school supplies, it sure looks like it needs something put in there. School has finished, and so I check my grades online everyday in fear of how I've done. Although I've improved vastly from my ... read more
