WOW! It’s good to be home. Or, it was good to be home. I brought my crutches home with me, although I ditched them in the garage on arrival. I was finally home and in the final stretches of recovery. Well, I was until I opted to get a long overdue orthoscopic job on my right knee. (BTW, thanks Dr. Scranton, it’s feeling great!) A few more weeks of hobbling around would give me reason enough to stay in Seattle for a couple months and see what it is like to be stationary for more than 10 days. (Which since June 14, 2006 hadn’t happened.) Not to mention I got to the live the life of luxury. Mom was around to feed me. I found myself behind the wheel of car again. What freedom of ... read more

Alleine zu reisen ist schon was ganz anderes. Habe mich inzwischen so halbwegs daran gewöhnt.

So I am in Seattle staying at the Days Inn. I'm really close to the airport. I just finished a greasy filled meal at Denny's. It couldn't be anymore American.... I am really excited to get on the plane and go! Anyways I thought I would write to say I am alive. One last thing, if I've learned anything from driving to the states and being here. Vancouver is so much better, and there is nothing better than being Canadian. :) Talk soon! ... read more

Hi there As we have not really observed anything particularly new or interesting in Canada since our last installment, our observations this time relate to what we experienced on our recent trip across the border into the US. - Fast food diet. The number of overweight people we noticed in the US was significantly more than what we have seen in Canada. We were expecting to find a large number of overweight people when we arrived in Canada as we figured it was so similar to the States that the prominance of Fast Food outlets would surely result in a population of fatties. However, this simply hasn't been the case. But after only 2 days in Seattle it is apparent to us that the US definately has a greater obesity problem. We have commented before ... read more

Whew! After a few stressful weeks, planning and packing and wrapping up at work (training a temp in my case, who knew talking all day long could be so hard?) we now have an additional issue to deal with. Trent's passport never came. So the today, the day before we fly out we had to be in Seattle for him to get an emergency rush passport. We drove down last night and stayed in a fairly expensive hotel, but we got lots of sleep, which I can't say I've had in a while, and then were at the passport office this morning at 8. They were done with us by 10 and we had to go back to pick it up at 3, so we had some free time in Seattle, which was great! It ... read more

Travel Practice North America » United States » Washington » Seattle By sherrirogersMay 13th 2007Trip to Seattle Well I am in full swing of packing up my belongings and setting off for Europe. But before I go, I thought it would be good practice to take a trip down to Seattle to visit my bff Lana while she was touring with the musical theatre production Clifford the Big Red Dog. I stayed in Everett Washington for two nights, watched Lana's performance, bought cheap trendy clothes at Target (damn those sweatshop kids... read more

The transfer to the hostel was somewhat traumatic - as bus after bus drove straight past the waiting queue! But once there, all was well. The Green Tortoise hostel was comfortable and clean - all you need in a hostel really! I think in reality you could comfortably 'do' Seattle in 2 days. It is a very pleasant city - though more of a city to live in than to be a tourist in - although they do try! I walked the whole city and all of it's sights in the one day! The old town was quaint and quite sweet - based around the famous (again, apparently!) Pioneer Square, the spike was costly - nope I didn't pay to go up it! The parks were lovely - made all the better for the delightful ... read more

Happy Cinco De Mayo! We are getting excited for our trip to start and only have four days left in the States. I feel like we are ready but I am sure there are things that we have overlooked. Only one way to find out. Our friends are having a party for our departure tonight/Cinco de Mayo, so we are excited for that. Ideally, we are going to write on this blog when we can and so you can all log on when you have spare time and see that we are still okay and find out where it is that we are. Don't worry mom and dad, we will still be calling you.... read more

With Whistler's ski season slowing down and coming to an end, Soph was out of work - there is only so much glass and cuttlery polishing one can do! Adam (Dan's 12 yr old) had finished his racing and as such the family no longer needed his help.... However, the snow was still epic for this time of year (so we were told) and we had our last few powder days during April. The skiing does actually keep going until June on Blackcomb and then up onto the Glacier for the 'Camp of Champions' freestyling this summer. The Telus Ski and Snowboard festival hit Whistler and gave us a massive last party. There was live music each day and at the bottom of the hill, freestyle competitors and lots of free stuff (which kept Dan ... read more
