After dragging myself away from the mountains (the only thing that made it better was I knew I´d be returning soon... oh and I was going to meet Lizzie!) and back to Lima I had a day to check out the sights before making my way to the airport to meet a very tired and excited Lizzie, who had just arrived on a 12 hour flight from Amsterdam. After a good long nights sleep, I acted as tour guide for the day around Lima! We ate Cerviche (raw fish in lime juice), went to the markets in town, checked out [View Full Entry]

The reward for 4 hours climbing...
This was my reward after a savage climb and some very sketchy guiding by the guide. He took me along a 20cm aquaduct wall with 100m on one side - I ended up walking up through the water!
Well, here are the photos from my two weeks of adventures in the Cordillera Blanca..... It was absolutely stunning. Hopefully the pictures will speak for themselves! After the trek, I had a really relaxed day and just loved having a proper bed again! In the last two days I squeezed in some Ice-climbing and a glacier walk, before heading all the way down back to Lima to meet Lizzie (my sister), who was coming to join me for the next, and last, 6 weeks of the trip.... Camp 6
Sunrise...
The end...

May the 10th eventually had to come round and it was time for us to go our separate ways. Soph was heading home and I was going south firstly to Costa Rica and then down to South America. After an awful goodbye at Vancouver airport I headed to Huston for a three hour stop over. According to all the people I spoke to I did what everyone does in Huston and sat in George Bush airport for a few hours waiting to leave. Eventually my plain came and it was of to CR.... I arrived to blazing heat (compared to [View Full Entry]

Why I was petrified!
No tutles but palm trees in Tortuguero

Costa Rica 13th to 27th May 07 by Dan’s Mum Barbara Before meeting up with Dan,. I too didn’t see turtles in Tortuguero and wondered if the 14 year old looking pilot really knew how to fly… Anyway, great excitement on Friday 18th may when I took a 5 hour journey (which hugely improved my non existent Spanish), to meet Dan whom I hadn’t seen since January. I attended his Spanish certificate presentation (bit different from speech days) and we set off for our first night camping in the rainforest with poisonous green and black frogs, red frogs wearing blue [View Full Entry]

With Whistler's ski season slowing down and coming to an end, Soph was out of work - there is only so much glass and cuttlery polishing one can do! Adam (Dan's 12 yr old) had finished his racing and as such the family no longer needed his help.... However, the snow was still epic for this time of year (so we were told) and we had our last few powder days during April. The skiing does actually keep going until June on Blackcomb and then up onto the Glacier for the 'Camp of Champions' freestyling this summer. The Telus Ski [View Full Entry]

Cannucks v All Stars
when we
this one

Well, as hopefully you know by now we made it home with no worries - despite the best attempts of the good old British weather to stop our plane landing. Having slotted back in to the ways and luxuries of England (far too easily) we had Christmas with the families before heading up to Blakeney for new years on the Norfolk coast. We decided that if we were going to cook anything (everyone was expecting dinner!) it had to be a curry... so we spent all afternoon on the 31st trying to understand our scrawled recipes from our two cooking courses [View Full Entry]

The classic Taj Mahal shot!
Appartently they hardly ever turn the fountains on so that people can take this photo!
Before leaving Jaipur we'd reserved no.1 choice in the LP to stay in! We had no idea what to expect but new it was pretty pricey.... Rocking up at 11pm on a cycle rickshaw freezing cold we were greeted by dinner, a damn nice garden and super clean room... We had struck lucky! The place was also right next to the entrance to the Taj so we could maximise sleeping time before having to be there at 6am! (Dan was v. happy about this! We were up and about on a freezing cold day (never thought it would be like this [View Full Entry]

desert forts & safaris

 Asia » India » Rajasthan » Jaipur
days 110-117ish We had a whistlestop tour of Jodhpur, en route to the desert in Western Rajasthan. An imposing red sandstone fort stands above a blue-painted city. The indigo paint of the houses apparently helps heat control and prevents ants etc. crawling all over the walls. We followed an informative, interesting and amusing audio tour around the fort. This hi-tech (the most modern museum we've come across) guide prevented us from wandering aimlessly and kept our minds focussed -especially because we had to complete the tour before closing time. Admittedly this race to finis [View Full Entry]

The worlds largest sundial

After departing Mumbai and making it out without surcumming to the Chowpatty beach belly - we headed up to Udaipur on a two-leg train journey taking almost 24hours.... We rocked up in James Bond's enemy’s hangout (Octopussy) around 7am and made it via the pre pay rickshaw booth (being very weary of all the scams and touts we'd been told about in Rajasthan) into town to 'meet some friends'. The driver did however convince us to check out his place and we ended up staying in a well nice room with views of the 'floating' lake palace for what was a [View Full Entry]
