Nate had to do a lot of research for this drive, we were unable to pull the trailer or even just the truck straight to Zion since there's a tunnel that has large vehicle restrictions and even requires you to pay to have an escort to assist through the narrow passes. So we took 515 out of Vegas to interstate 15 back into Arizona and up to Utah. Interstate 15 in Arizona took us right through the middle of some large mountains thankfully low passes with small grades. Then 20 East to Panguitch, we camped at Paradise RV Resort ($16/night with no discount program needed) which has some beautiful views, Wi-Fi, and is close to Bryce Canyon. This is a nice up and coming park in the respect that they appear to have made many upgrades ... read more

THE BASICS We moved on to Blanding and traveled over to Hovenweep National Monument. En route to our next stop, the weirdest "campground" yet, we took a side trip to Natural Bridges National Monument, and climbed down to see the third one up close. After a strange night at the top of Lake Powell, we drove on through Glen Canyon to Hanksville. We enjoyed a delightful trip to Goblin Valley State Park, a mini-mini-Bryce sort of place. Onward to Torrey, the launch to Capitol Reef National Reef just a few miles back to the east. From Torrey, we proceeded to Panguitch. We took a short hike in Red Canyon, and also visited Cedar Breaks National Monument. The drive back to Panguitch from there was interrupted by about 2000 sheep! Tomorrow we plan to treat ourselves to ... read more

Distance driven today: 335 miles / 539 km Cumulative distance driven: 3,436 miles / 5,530 km Today’s trip: Salt Lake City, Utah, USA to Panguitch, Utah Other motorcyclists encountered on highway 12: 250+ Switchbacks driven through: 139 Today’s ride started off in rush hour traffic in Salt Lake City. After almost an hour of L.A. like traffic (!), I was out of the big city and on to the rural back roads riding south. Without a doubt, the highlight of the day was Utah highway 12, which was voted as one of the most scenic highways in America, receiving the designation of 'All American Road' in 2002. Now, I have said it before (when I drove through the glacier highway in southern British Columbia), so I am going to keep it short. Sure, highway 12 is ... read more

Is it possible to fall in love with a whole state. If it is, Utah is the one for me. They have counties named after cartoon cats. The people are really friendly, I keep meeting happy Wolves fans, the roads have corners making the driving interesting, the hotels are charming, and the scenery is out of this world. Quite literally occasionally. Many many movies have been filmed here. 127 Hours, Galaxy Quest, Planet of the Apes, Back To The Future, Indiana Jones, Independence Day, Star Trek, and High School Musical. Woohoo. (I Shouldn't have looked that up, I now have 'We're All In This Together' stuck in my head. Last time I heard that was watching the parade in Disney World. Any song that gets stuck in your head that long must be evil) Anyway, back ... read more

Spent the night in Thousand Lakes campground, so far the most beautiful one we've been in. Highly recommend this one. We could stay only one night. Too bad because there is so much to see there. (Grand Staircase Escalante Park) Oh well, Next time. We traveled on RT 12 all day. This road is stated to be the 4th most beautiful Rt in the U.S. and they are right! however no one told us that it is not recommended for Motorhomes, or at least one as large as ours. Smooth going to Boulder where we stopped for lunch and to visit the Anasazi Historical Museum. It was small but very informative. Back on the road we started climbing, and climbing all the way to 9600 ft. (we started at 4000 ft.) The landscape started as pines ... read more
