Left Carlsbad this morning to head for Branson MO., our last tourist stop before going home to Ohio. I forgot to mention that we had a hydraulic line blowout in the desert before we got to Carlsbad so were unable to use our slideouts while camping. We asked around and God came through as usual. There just happened to be a hydraulic co. in Carlsbad. So off we went to look for it. Found it and the guys were so nice! They didn't usually do work for Motor homes, but Steve showed them the tubing we needed and they made us a new piece for $12.00. Steve installed it on the spot and we were off again. Yea!! It was a long trip and another night without a place to camp. We pulled off at a ... read more

On to Carlsbad via Roswell...Thought we would see a lot of cool UFO items..NOT! One small museum,a couple of signs. Think the outer space interest has faded here. This was the most foul smelling town we've ever encountered. Found out it is completely surrounded by mega beef cattle holding pens. Oh my! Hurried on to White plains in time to see the lovely sunset but no bats! There was a huge fire in June and all the bats had gone elsewhere for food. The caverns the next day however AWESOME! Never saw anything so massive in our lives. 2 and 1/2 miles downhill all the way into the abyss. Lots of weird formations like popcorn rock, flows, curtains etc. The rooms were very large. The "grand room" was at least 30-40 feet high, some places more ... read more

This was a long 2 day road trip that we used to our advantage. Our route wound through parts of Arizona, New Mexico ending in White City NM. Maggie especially enjoyed this part because she was with us all the time and got to get out of the Beast a lot to walk with us. At the petrified forest, Barb asked about dogs being allowed because of urinating on the petrified logs..the lady at the counter looked at her and laughed... "The logs are rock! I don't think it will hurt them." Duh! The painted desert was dramatic in the late day sunlight.Another Wal Mart night in the Beast and then on the road again. Steve with his aeronautic background, just had to see Meteor Crater in NM. Really massive! the photos don't do it justice ... read more

Left in early for the South Rim, a 130 mile drive. We retraced the road north out of Kaibab Forest that we had traveled after dark two nights before. Spectacular landscape, 2,000 foot cliffs above us, crossing the Colorado river before it enters the Grand Canyon. Drove into the park via the Desert View Road from the east. Stopped at look outs along the way and reached the visitor's center by 3 PM. We stayed to listed to an unhappy ranger give a talk on the endangered Condor then joined Joanie and Tony at our campsite in Williams (55 miles south of the Canyon, much too far away). The next day we rented a car and drove to the Canyon. Took a bus to the the West from the visitor's center and hiked trails along the ... read more

After a late night arrival (moonless dark night, winding narrow roads), we awoke to a beautiful forest campsite. The only draw back was that we were 43 miles from the North Rim and it was cool mountain air (elevation 8,000 ft). We waited for sunshine and headed out on the motorcycle at noon. Rode through beautiful pasture land and forests and only saw two Elk (expected buffalo). Hike all afternoon on the west edge of Angel Canyon. The Grand Canyon at that point is 10 miles wide and 5,000 feet deep. Too big to comprehend. We started home late and stopped briefly at Imperial point on the east side of Angel Canyon. Rode home in the dark and cold, so the heat of our motor home furnace was welcomed. The next day was a rest and ... read more

Just a day for fun in the sun. We donned our swimsuits, rented a speed boat, packed a lunch and took off to cruise Lake Powell! What a great time! Pulled up to a small beach and had our lunch, then everyone water skied or at least tried to. We spent the rest of the afternoon gawking at the surroundings and wishing we had more time here. After a well needed shower, got on the cycle (Greg M. notice we really do ride the cycle.) and went to Page, the nearest town, loaded up on groceries and hit the road to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. On the way there, we saw some of the reddest rock formations on Rt 59 and 89. Even got out on a very dark highway to look at the ... read more

This has to be one of God's greatest creations! We had so much fun here hiking a couple of different paths, one paved and one very rough. On the first we met a very sociable squirrel wanted fed. There is a $100.00 fine if you are caught feeding any animal. The Virgin river running through the canyon was so inviting! It was warm weather and many folks took of their socks and shoes to hike further up into the canyon in the shallow water. Many places had small rapids making wonderful sounds. The 2nd hike we had to climb up about 300 feet of rocky narrow path across the face of one of the mountain peaks to see Emerald Pools and a small waterfall. We had just come down from there when it started pouring rain ... read more

We heard rain all night and hoped it would be gone by the time we started our day..Not! Our friend Tony also had developed back problems so no Motorcycle trips today. Steve ended up riding ours 24 miles in the rain to rent a car for all of us to use. We all piled in after lunch and headed to Bryce Canyon. We ended up with some wonderful photos despite the low lying clouds and fog. It is hard to believe that one canyon could have such diverse landscape. God never ceases to amaze!! Despite the weather, we had a terrific day with our good friends from CA.... read more

Spent the night in Thousand Lakes campground, so far the most beautiful one we've been in. Highly recommend this one. We could stay only one night. Too bad because there is so much to see there. (Grand Staircase Escalante Park) Oh well, Next time. We traveled on RT 12 all day. This road is stated to be the 4th most beautiful Rt in the U.S. and they are right! however no one told us that it is not recommended for Motorhomes, or at least one as large as ours. Smooth going to Boulder where we stopped for lunch and to visit the Anasazi Historical Museum. It was small but very informative. Back on the road we started climbing, and climbing all the way to 9600 ft. (we started at 4000 ft.) The landscape started as pines ... read more

After breaking camp at Devil's Canyon we drove the motorhome south to Gooseneck State Park. There we saw the Colorado river cutting its way through the canyon floor. We off loaded the motorcycle in this remote park and left for a 100 mile round trip into AZ to see Monument Valley, deep in the Navajo Nation. After returning to the motor home, (Maggie was frantic as we were gone for 4 hrs) we loaded up and drove north along scenic route 95. We entered the canyon floor of ancient rivers with side walls over 1,500 feet. The colors were spectacular and around every turn the landscape was more impressive than the last. We crossed lake Powell in the upper end of Glen Canyon National Park. We drove past a massive Capital Reef with 1,000 foot rock ... read more
