Who knew that at the turn of the 20th century this is where the richest families in the USA built their summer houses? For example, the mansion in the Brad Pitt/Anthony Hopkins movie "Meet Joe Black".The incredible extravagance of these massive dwellings generated criticism, plus the rising property taxes in the post-depression world saw a decline in the desirability of these status symbols. They started to be sold off for demolition until a group of concerned citizens banded together in 1945 to preserve the heritage of this remarkable period.We toured two of the houses and had a stroll through the old town and lunch at a convivial Irish pub.... read more

We next headed to Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut. We stayed at a RV park in Rhode Island called Holiday Acres and met a nice couple Liz and Steve who asked us to share their campfire a couple of nights for some great conversation. They are full time RV travelers since January and are enjoying it. We came to this area to visit Bonnie’s friends that live in Douglas, Massachusetts and they made us lobster dinner one evening which was great, but I still prefer Pacific coast crab. We had a good visit with them and their family. It was very hot and humid while we were in this area so we spent lots of time in the trailer with the air conditioner going full blast. Taylor here, today at about 9 am Lisa and I went and got the car and we all drove to Newport RI. A soon as we got their we changed and went to the beach which was my favorite because last time I was at the ocean it was windy and really cold. We went to two beaches second beach and Easton beach,second beach Anna, Dakota and I rented body boards we spent aboit and hour and half body boarding it was so much fun. Then on Easton beach it was a little weedy and Anna had weeds coming out of her hair when she brushed it gross! When we left the beach we got frozen lemomade that was really refreshing. Crew "Escape"... we had a few hrs to burn off before guest arrived and tried to fit in as much as we could. I wanted to take a helicopter ride (Only $75 pp btw) but my idea was quickly turned off by the rest of the group. Instead, we walked the "Cliff Walk" which took us to a petty scenic view of the mansions...lots of photo opps... read more

Hi peoples! I know I said that my first post would be Sunday, but I complete the first leg of my journey today. Right now, I am driving from my house to my grandmas place.
