Usually I spend most of my time watching TV. I'm addicted to stupid reality shows and I love having the TV on while I'm doing homework or just hanging out in my room. It's to the point where I can't fall asleep without the TV on, and I cant concentrate on my homework without it either. I need that background noise to do anything. Whenever I'm bored the TV is immeditaly turned on, and whenever me and my roommate designate a night for roomie bonding we always just end up watching TV because we can never come up with anything else to do. It gets pathetic sometimes when were watching episodes of gilmore girls from seasons 1-5 on dvd that we've seen about 10 times each. However, yesterday it was just sooo nice out that for ... read more

Im sure everyone has some kind of seminar or speaker in high school that comes to talk to the class or the whole school about drunk driving. I remember before each prom, my school would have a speaker and basically it was someone who had survived a drunk driving accident and whose friends had died. There were also photographs that the speaker included in his or her talk. This was always very emotional and shocking and definitly got the point across. When I was home for spring break, my brother, who plays hockey for his high school team and travel team, told me about a game he played against a team of paraplegics. The kids on this team were in their late teens, the same age as my brother. They were all paralyzed from the waiste ... read more

America has everything it could ever ask for yet we still complain about everything. We have any luxury that any other country has and more. Sometimes when I walk through the mall I am disgusted at all the spoiled little children that complain to their parents about not being able to heve this or that, even though you know they have a million diffrent things at home already. I sometimes find myself doing the same thing but I try to stop and think how privileged Iam to have what I do. Being a lower class citizen in America is better then living in a lot of other countries. So i feel that we as Americans need to relize that we are lucky to be where we are at and need to stop complaining.... read more

A never ending industrialization in Americaan society is the Medical Industry. Advancements are always being made and these advancements will never stop either. The only way the advancements in medicine will end is one of two ways, if everybody is cured or everybody dies. So in that case it will never end. Another thing that goes hand in hand with advancements in medicine is the price for medical care as long as there are advancements then the cost will just keep rising.... read more

This morning...this SATURDAY morning, I woke up early so that I could go to see Dr. Paul Farmer speak. Before January, I had never heard of Farmer or Partners in Health, the health care organization he co-founded. After reading about him in my Global Poverty class, however, I have come to see him as someone who is to be admired greatly for his work with the poor. Farmer has opened clinics in Haiti, Peru, Russia, Africa, and south Boston, where he provides health care for those who cannot afford it. Although it is generally understood that medicine is a commodity and not a right, Farmer believes, as most people do, that everyone has the right to life. Therefore, he and those he works with use their talents to fund these programs that allow the poor to ... read more

The Philly Cheesesteak is a proud symbol of not only our drive for obesity, but also our on-the-go pace that Philadelphians are notorious for. With the cheessteak that I have recently consummed from "Momma's," I wonder how this amazing sandwhich is made. After reflecting on the possibilities of how it is made, I soon came to the conclusion, "how else would it be made without the oversized heating pan?" Modern technology can be as complex as rocket science, but also as simple as making a nice heating pan where the chief plops down the red meat. A simple device makes cooking so much easier, and I can not imagine what life would be like with having to harvest wood, igniting the wood or coals, and then finding a pan that I could hang over the fire. ... read more

i had just signed up for ebay/paypal yesterday, and i bid on my first item - which will remain nameless because it's a toy and it's embarassing that i'm twenty and i still buy toys. anyway...i was never really an ebayer, but now i think i'll be obsessed with it in the near future (yeah, it's gonna happen - i just won two items). getting anything you want/rare items for cheaper prices?...sounds like a deal to me! ebay fascinates me. you can sell your personal items to people all around the world by just advertising it on the internet. you can sell cars, toys, video games, movies, clothes, everything! all the electronic-ness that goes on to bid on items, to close the auctions, to maintain the time availability of items, to confirm whether you have won ... read more

hello! Well I just got back from the Relay For Life in the pavillion on campus. The relay for life is a fundraiser for all kinds of cancer. They go to different locations and fundraise. People can camp out in the pavillion starting at 6p.m until 12pm the next day. I joined a team with a people in one of my classes. As I walked in there, you could see all the people walking around the track, or playing twister or playing basketball. Everyone was having fun and raising money to help a great cause. It was not until in class on wednesday that I realized how industry has highly affected cancer and the increasing rate in people with cancer. You always hear of someone having cancer that you know. These days, anything can cause cancer, ... read more

It seems like techonolgy can fix anything, or make anything easier. Well today during dress rehearsal for my dance recital on saturday i did something really bad and painful to my hamstring. I was doing a "penche" (which is: "penché . A tilting of the body to achieve an exteme picture. An example is when the dancer is in an arabesque at 90 degrees. She then pushes her working leg upward and over, pushing the body down towards the supporting leg to achieve a much greater angle between legs, often resulting in a 180-degree split.") One of the dances I'm in has a quick penche in it and I was not warmed up, so when i did it quickly i felt "riippppp" and had to hobble off stage in pain. How can technology help me here?! ... read more
