Trip - 11 Days Yes, normal people do not "test pack" 11 days ahead! But.....with only suitcase of 50 pounds allowed and a trip of 18 days to plan for, it seems a good idea to test pack and weigh. The first test shows plenty of room and 25 pounds to spare. Then, there is the variable weather factor: could be cool and rainy or warm. I see that my renewed passport will arrive here by next Thursday which is a relief. My feeble excuse for that debacle is that I am unable to open the safe in which the passport lives. I saw a woman recently who had a t-shirt on reading "I know it isn't your fault, but I'm blaming you anyway." I guess I have to blame the safe. ... read more

Tuesday, 9 June (Capitol KOA to PhiladelphiaWest Chester KOA): We left the Capitol KOA a bit after 8am and along the way to the Philadelphia /West Chester KOA (93 miles), we called the Herrs Snack Food Factory to schedule a tour at 10am. The tour was pretty neat, informative, and free. They make a variety of chips, pretzels, nachos, and popcorn, but only distribute as far south as North Carolina. Near the end of the tour, we all go to try some ruffle-type chips right out of the overn… yum! They also gave us a free bag. It was a great deal, especially being free. We arrived at the Philadelphia/West Chester KOA (hereafter referred to as the Philly KOA) just after noon and even though their computer was down and check-in time was normally 2pm, they ... read more

Obviously, we have returned home. I cannot believe how quickly one month can pass. I am still pinching myself in wonder of all we have seen and done. It has been such a wonderful experience - an opportunity not to have missed. This last entry may be difficult for some to read so be forewarned that it is not for everyone. I have learned so much on this trip and this was the most difficult lesson of all. The one event that continues to haunt me is the time spent in Auschwitz and Birkenau. I don't know that the world will ever come to terms, if that is even slightly possible, with the history of that time. I know that it will certainly never leave me. There were several facts that I learned that I doubt ... read more

Are you happy you did it? Moria: Absolutely. It was an excellent way to spend six months, and the lessons I learned were priceless. Kate: Yes, of course. Do you have any regrets? Moria: Nope. Kate: I regret not doing yoga in India. Who knows when I will have the chance again? What was your favorite place/country? Moria: We can't choose one. Sorry. We can't even choose a favorite country from each region. They each have something unique to offer. Kate: I concur. Did you get on each other's nerves? Moria: Yes, all the time. We got into a few big fights, most of which were mentioned in previous posts. We frequently snapped at each other too, but when you're traveling with someone for six months, you learn to get over things within a 15-minute time ... read more

I've spent my final few days in the United States editing Kate's thesis, so we can leave Dublin on schedule. As a result, I'm an expert on female Muslim suicide bombers. After reading the 70+ pages multiple times, I've learned they bomb for the dudes. Sigh. Love hurts. I might have to pack Kate's bag for her when I arrive in Dublin, so she can hand in the thesis, but I think I'm prepared. After grumbling about the boredom of the suburbs for a few days, I came to peace with the isolation and enjoyed a few weeks of reading on the couch, pooping on a regular toilet, raiding the fridge, drinking water from a tap, driving a car, etc. Although I apologized a lot in the F.A.Q., I'm going to continue the apologies in this ... read more
