Linvilla Orchards
J.C. posing in the Linvilla Orchards Market Tuesday, 9 June (Capitol KOA to Philadelphia]West Chester KOA): We left the Capitol KOA a bit after 8am and along the way to the Philadelphia /West Chester KOA (93 miles), we called the Herrs Snack Food Factory to schedule a tour at 10am. The tour was pretty neat, informative, and free. They make a variety of chips, pretzels, nachos, and popcorn, but only distribute as far south as North Carolina. Near the end of the tour, we all go to try some ruffle-type chips right out of the overn… yum! They also gave us a free bag. It was a great deal, especially being free. We arrived at the Philadelphia/West Chester KOA (hereafter referred to as the Philly KOA) just after noon and even though their computer was down and check-in time was normally 2pm, they checked us in. This KOA is another of the very friendly, run by owners living on the property, and retired folks, type of KOA. I’d give it a9, but the WiFi is down (maybe for 2 more days!) and the café is closed (no WiFi for cash registers), so we’ll say 8 again, like the Capitol KOA. After unloading, we headed out to find lunch
Linvilla Orchards
Some of the preserves, jams, jellies, sauces, etc. in the Linvilla Orchards Market store. and some sort of nearby activity. The KOA is several miles in any direction from the nearest gas station or restaurant, but we finally located Hank’s Place near the Brandywine Battlefield. They had excellent food, good prices, and were quite popular. I had a turkey Rueben and fries, and Manoli had a crab cake sandwich. Something like $7 or $8 each. After lunch, we went to the Longwood Gardens, but didn’t go in because it was already 2pm and it would cost $16 each. Instead, we located the Linvilla Orchards and checked out the store and grounds. They had some yummy stuff, but weren’t running any tours at the time and the only pick-your-own was strawberries and rhubarb. We did pick up a pack of hand made apple fritters. I got a chicken salad sandwich and potato salad for dinner from the not-too-far-away Landhome Farms store. Tomorrow, we’re either going to Philadelphia or Hershey and Lancaster, depending on the weather. It’s been raining a lot lately. I’ll post this and photos when the WiFi is up or we find a place.
