K- Arrived at Crater Lake in Oregon this morning. It is truly beautiful and enchanting but also freezing! There is still 20 feet of snow on the ground and it started snowing as we drove up to the rim..... in our open topped car..... and Mark in shorts. First rule of traveling is obviously to do your research and ensure you are as well prepared as the most zealous boy scout. But apart from the fact that Mark is wearing shorts - we skipped that part. I had also forgotten how glamorous traveling is - just look at the attractive fleece, body warmer and ski hat ensemble I just 'threw together". I also just noticed that our blog is obsessed with clothes (or lack of them!) which is weird because even (especially) our best friends would ... read more

M- Trees, RVs and Trailers Parks - I don’t think I’ve ever seen as many in a single day! Yesterday we arrived in Klamath Falls. K Falls is about an hour south of Crater Lake, our primary reason for being there. K Falls is pretty forgettable, a deserted little town that has obviously seen better days or perhaps is just waiting for the tourist season to kick off. Crater Lake though was worth the ride. A 5 mile wide lake in the crater of a volcano filled with rainfall and melting snow. Apparently it’s the deepest lake in North America and has some of the clearest water anywhere. The drop from the rim to the lake is not far from vertical but I have got to admit the fact that it was covered in deep power ... read more

One Last Taste Of Home Scene- A scrumptious lunch served by the Taylor's, bidding us farewell. A scenic drive down the Old Pacific Highway ending at the quaint town of Bandon, OR. After a drawn out conversation with the power trippin State Park Ranger (He had us pegged as a coupla' prissy sissies), we came to Whiskey Run Beach.... A desolate dune lacking...oh my gosh, can it be....NO FACILITIES!???! Eh, we managed. Tent pitched, sun setting, we rested well-for FREE- in the bosom of the coast. Quote Of The Day:One day I'll be able to say that to you as it shoots out your ass! How Did Sand Get There?! Camping for free on the beach is great, but we had no idea we'd be taking it with us. After shakin' out our...everything...we continued on to ... read more

In Crescent City, California, we took a detour from the 101 and took Highway 199 to Cave Junction, Oregon, in order to visit Oregon Caves National Monument. Not only is Oregon Caves National Monument one of only a few National Parks in Oregon, they are also very rare caves in that they are made of marble. Only 5% of the world's caves are marble, most are limestone. As is the case with the majority of the trip, I underestimated the road and the amount of time that it would take to get to the monument from Cave Junction. The 20 miles on the map were very winding and a relatively slow 20 miles, so we finally got to the Visitor Center at 1:30pm. We also did not plan for the fact that you have to schedule ... read more

The first leg of our driving trip up the coast to Vancouver was the wine region of Napa Valley. Napa lies about 90 minutes drive North of San Francisco, so as you could imagine it becomes pretty hectic during the summer months with all the San Franciscans escaping the city to come and visit the country. The town of Napa is a somewhat kitschy affair sitting at the bottom of the valley which is dotted with small towns along its 50 km length. By chance, Fiona and I had booked a cottage in the small town of Calistoga which sits on the very northern part of the valley, and subsequently is much quieter than other parts of the valley. We made our way up the valley having a squiz at some of the 450 different wineries ... read more

SO here we are in Bandon-By-The-Sea and we are seeing sun for the first time in a week! Its been very depressing because we haven't been able to do much. We tried hiking in the rain, but then we were soaked and it took 3 days for our clothes to dry. Since Seattle- we went to Olympic National Park and camped there for a night. We hiked in the rainforest and we thought all the moss was really cool looking. After Olympic NP, we started our journey down the coast with high hopes of warm weather and sun. WRONG! Cold and rainy for the forecast (thanks to the wonderful working man, Alex Penning, who is always in front of his computer checking the weather for us!) We explored much of the Washington and Oregon Coasts, hiking ... read more

Hi Everyone, As soon as I returned from riding the Ninja to Alaska I realized I wanted to go back, this time with Linda. As I've stated previously Linda doesn't like 2-wheelers so it only seemed natural for us to head out in an RV of some sort. We've owned a small one for the past several years, a VW powered Winnebago Rialta, great for two people and the occasional mutt. However while I was in Alaska I saw a total of 6 of them and none looked like they were holding up too well. With that in mind when I got home I figured it was time to look at something more substantial. Given the overall condition of the roads between Bandon, OR and Delta Junction, AK I wanted a reliable rig that would require ... read more
