My husband grew up camping with his family. It’s where he honed his deep-seeded love for old Volkswagen Vanagons, making ground beef “hobo” meals around a small fire, and anything that has to do with the outdoors. He continued this tradition up until the week he left for college, camping at nearby Grayson Highlands with his mom, dad, and older brother Jason. By that point, he’d already met me. I think he knew this was going to be his last camping adventure for quite a while, and he was correct! You see, I didn’t come from a family of campers. Sure, we lived a quarter-mile off the road, had a home flanked on both sides by cornfields and creeks, and spent all our days outdoors. Yet, when the sun set and the bats came out, my ... read more

Wow, I should look to see what my last post is before completeing this. Ok, I am so sorry about the last post. I just realized how it copied without any paragraphs. I have been writing them on the I-pad notes then pasting them into the blog when I had the time, so evidentally they didn't indent when pasting them...sorry. And just think I had time in the airport in Seoul to work all of that out, but I was lax and not to mention a little sleepy. Anyway, we made it back down to Lukla all safe and sound. Only then did I mention to the whole group how amazed I was that I had hiked over 120 miles without a single fall! Everyday, I was so nervous I was going to trip and fall. ... read more

Gosh, I realize I am way behind, but we have been a little busy lately with little to no wifi access. I know I told you some of our base camp adventure so now I'll go into more detail. After our "rest" day we hiked up to Lobuche. It was pretty sunny day and a fairly easy hike, if any of them are considered easy. The places we have been staying in have been getting progressively more basic. The Lobuche tea house certainly was basic. It did have a sit toilet to use, but only at night. During the day we had to go outside to what we call a squatter. I'll supply the pictures later! The next morning we left Lobuche for Gorak Shep. The hike was about 2hours and repeatedly up and down. We ... read more

I went up tomStone Mountain State Park today for a training hike. The weather was perfect, cool and sunny. The loop trail is 4.3 miles, so I planned on doing it twice. It had been several years since had hiked there and several trail improvements had been made. Starting out I had the trail to myself, but as I reached the back side near the falls I finally started seeing others. There is a new parking lot on the upper side that allows access to the summit and falls without having to do the whole loop. most of the casual hikers are on that side. I moved along quickly the first time around since I wanted to see if it's possible to come up here on a school day and have time to get home before ... read more

I'm trying to set this up to make it easy for everyone to keep track of me! Right now, I'm just working out, mainly doing cardio, steps and weights. I'm planning to hike Stone Mountain state park this Saturday. I will post pictures to see how easy that is too!... read more

While Jason took a trip to Bolivia and Rich went to meetings in Ohio, I flew down to NC for a few days to get acquainted with Maggie. All I can say is she likes to walk, walk, walk. She loves life and enjoys every day. Whether in Bolivia or NC, it's hard to say Good-bye.... read more

Overall, or well to sum it up, this trip was great for the family and quite doable for my business. I must give a great deal of credit to Lori. She organized most of it and catered to my job. I was able to stay busy with calling on customers via email, the phone, or and visits. The only problem I experieinced with the cell card for email or the cell phone was in Yellowstone. For that, I just took my vacation during that time. With the great organization, it became quite balanced. I enjoyed going out to see customers during the day and then coming back to the RV at night to be with them. We found a great many things about ourselves and our relationships. We became closer, decided to get away from each ... read more

And so as I sit here on the floor packing for our family trip into the wilderness (okay near wilderness), I catalog for you our survival equipment: *3 digital cameras (which by the way require 3 separate cords to connect the cameras to the PC, plus the luck to have 3 separate memory card formats) *2 Laptops *2 printers (one for photos, one regular) that each come with their own type of USB connection (2 cords) and power cords (4 cords total) *3 MP3 players (once again each with their own specific cord to connect to the PC for download) *Paper (one type for photos, plain white as well) *Cell phone chargers - 2 car chargers, 2 wall chargers *2 memory sticks *1 memory card for my new cell phone that plays music off of a ... read more
