Arrived in New York New York late in the evening. We celebrated with the finest dining experience to be found in New York. Take a look at the photo - needless to say we savoured every fine morsel! We are enroute to the airport to start our 16 hour journey to Dakar and then Joburg, S. Africa. While enjoying our meal we were entertained by watching a Wildebeast in the middle of a tug of war between a Croc and a lion in Kruger Park, S. Africa on the boob tube. Let's hope we don't end up a meal!... read more

We could afford a bit of a sleep in this morning as today all we had planned was baseball. We woke a little too late to do some washing, but we were very pleased to see that the rain had held off again! We caught the subway straight out to the game, with me being an avid Mets fan since we bought the tickets a few months ago of course wearing my Mets cap, which wound its way through Queens on its way to the stadium. We caught glimpses of Queens from the train, as it runs above ground once it crosses East River. From heavily industrial to what looked like middle-class residential, parts were completely covered in grafitti. Most accommodation was brownstone to walk-ups, with little higher than 6 stories. I imagine it, like everywhere ... read more

Went to see an old college roomate and her family in Queens, NY. It had been awhile since I had last saw her. We hung out for the majority of the time at her place, but it was relaxing getting to know her kids, who by the way loved me. She took me to Faraway Beach and took a walk along the water. It was nice. Had a couple of drinks in the evening and caught up on new happenings and old times. The last day I was there they took me into the city to see some sights. First we went to the Empire State Building and were escorted all the way because Frankie is a NYPD and has special privilages. It was different to be escorted and not waiting like every other tourist. took ... read more

The first leg of the trip is behind us - Thank God! We're in JKF waiting for the flight to Korea. Coming in from Boston was a little exciting and mightly unpleasant. We were caught in a thunderstorm with lighting visible over the wing. When the turbulence hit, all the flight crew that were handing out Terra (not potato) Chips were knocked off their feet and fell in a big pile next to where we were sitting. We took a pass on the chips and cookies. Traveling as "Premiere" gets us into a pleasant lounge which if I didn't want to be asleep would be very comfortable. 2 more hours until take-off at 12:50 AM. As Jack commented, anyone who knows me knows that this is not prime time for Audrey.... read more

Ok. Tweede dag New York. Mensen om me heen gaan langzaam van me wegschuiven. Mij goede zin vertaalde zich ook in een enorme glimlach op mijn smoel. Achteraf leerde Liane me dat ik dus de "Crazy Man on the Train" was. Het is hier ten strengste verboden te lachen laat staan glimlachen in de trein! Weer iets geleerd van de folklore! New York is toch niet groter dan je denkt. Gisteren liep ik tegen Elke aan, een dame uit Leuven die ik ... read more

Its spring for some of the lucky kidlets in this hemisphere, I don't believe the 8+ million inhabitants of NYC have gotten the memo. I haven't received my myspace bulletin either. Either way its sunny so I'm going out on journey to the faraway land known as QUEENS. Yes its on the same island as Brooklyn but it's still far! (I'm from Brooklyn if you haven't gotten it). You've got to walk to the train, wait for it(it's the weekend people) and who know when one will arrive. Once on the train you hope that nothing happens to delay transport to your destination. I'm still en route with the usual suspects, at least three different languages being spoken within earshot.. Another three that have the yet to speak due to the fact they are alone...some conversations ... read more

So this is the last night for Alyssa and I. Yesterday, the day started going to Fidel Murphy's (an Irish Pub), to watch the Man U v Arsenal match. Man U won 4-0 and it was a perfect way to start the day. We asked our waitress to call a taxi and she said it would be about 10 min. We then made our way outside, and it begain raining outside and finally the taxi drove by the pub, beeped and we got in. The occupants were the taxi drivers kids and boyfriend/husband? No belts on, only time they put there belts on when we arrived at the scene of a head on collision involving a taxi and a car. Not sure if the person was from the states, but it looked as if they went ... read more

Day Two: Alyssa and I had awoken about 8:30 and figured we would have some breakfast and pend the remaining part of the day at the beach, save going to the grocery store and then to our Valentine's dinner that night at Calypso Grill. Recommended by the taci driver that had brought us to our digs on day one. Alyssa being a Grand Cayman afficianado from her prior years, was all to well aware of what's in sore over at the Calypso. No one would dare argue with her regarding this place Sorry to get off track. So after breakfast, we made our way to the beach and enjoyed several hours of white sandy beached and aqua colored liquid for the next 4 hours. Upon our return to our beach side palace, we decided it would ... read more

So, I arrive in NYC, the first stop of my adventure. Patrick met me at the subway station and laughed at my backpacker attire. Then I looked in the mirror and laughed at myself. I was completely immersed into Pat's Pratt culture, which is quite interesting in the very least. I met several characters, including one guy named Ray-Ray (actual name). New York was fun, as it always is, but I was anxious to get going. Alas, at approximately 4:30 on monday morning, I looked Patrick in the eyes and said, "well, I guess I'm off to India." And then I was off.... read more
