An amazing journey to an amazing country. The animals are safe from human interference, free to roam and live in their natural habitat. Thank you Dori - this trip was beyond anything I ever hoped for! We had so many laughs, so many memories. Good bye Africa, hello reality!... read more

We have left Ngala and have arrived at Kirkman's Camp in the Sabi Sands. Internet has been too slow to upload any photos for the past 3 days - but the highlight of today was a leopard viewing - our first one and 2 owls perched together just at dusk! We saw a pride of lions at Ngala a couple of times and lots of elephants, antelope, buffalo, hippos and giraffe. The birds are all very beautiful - too numerous to mention. We have 3 more safari's then off to New York!... read more

Today Dori and I went on a Township Tour. From what I understand a township is an area of black or coloured people only. There is a difference between "black" and "coloured" We spent the first hour learning about the history of the Cape, Apartheid and post Apartheid. The first township we visited was for black folk. These townships were established at times of Apartheid to segregate the people from the white. Attached are photos of the places we visited. The people who live in the townships have started up their own businesses within the township - often it is in a metal storage container. They can sell anything and everything or provide services out of these small areas. The homes are very small - always 2 rooms and the walls are adjoining other homes. The ... read more

We spent the day today touring the cape - we went right around the whole tip - we stood on the very tip of Africa - saw the Indian Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean. The Table Mountain is very old - they have dated it back 300 million years and believe me the rock looks that old - WineRocks would have a hay day!!! It was very rainy so not great pictures but here are a few. I was not expecting the wild life - but we saw seals, baboons (check these out they are too funny!!! Honest to God!) and last but not least penguins (these are only found in South Africa).... read more

We have landed in heaven I am sure. Just arrived at the Cape Grace Hotel - and all the attendants are in full attire to greet us. We have been treated like royalty every step of the way. The only thing we are missing is a wardrobe to go with the hotel. We are on the 1st floor and when we open our balcony doors we could step right onto a yacht that is moored outside our window. Unbelievable! We have been in the jungle for a week so this will be a wonderful reprieve. Can now access the highspeed internet so will send off some photos.... read more

We have had limited access to internet since we have arrived in Botswana. The experiences are incredible. Just this afternoon while sitting by the pool we could hear elephants in the distance bellowing. On the horizon we could see a whole herd walking single file. We went in for lunch and the poor waitresses (porters) spend the whole time shooing the monkeys away. They are always trying to make up with some morsel of our food. I tried to shoo one off yesterday and she challenged me and stole my napkin. I sure wasn't expecting that! Today while walking down to our cabin (#5) the couple from #3 came to us and said don't go down there, an elephant is blocking the way. We couldn't resist - sure enough just down the path a massive male ... read more

Dori and I are back in Johannesburg for the night. We fly out tomorrow for Victoria Falls and Matetsi. The Indian Ocean and beaches in Durban were beautiful. The secutity is very high and we were not allowed out after dark without security. Even the taxi driver had been hijacked 3 times. We drive back into the city a bit looking for a spice store and an art shop. The taxi driver took us to an emporium where we bought Zach his VooDoo item and a few other "goodies" to bring good luck and a long live to the receiver. In the evening we dined at a hotel just 2 doors down and had a South African favorite dish - bunny chow! It was a dish from the Apartheid times when blacks could not eat with ... read more

Dori is off at Indaba and I have the full day to myself. It is already very hot. Our room is absolutely fantastic - overlooking the Indian Ocean with a nice table for 2 on the balcony. I am not allowed out and about without a guard so not quite sure what I will do today. The beach is so inviting, just have to stick my toe in the Indian Ocean. There is a theme park on the beach front with lots of little kiosks of ladies selling their goods. Our last day at Phinda was so marvelous - have kept a journal in case I forget some things but being able to watch a family of cheetahs hunt was more than I could ever ask for. They are so beautiful and so obedient! One swish ... read more
