He was wearing only his pants and smoking in a nonsmoking building! So I backed out of my parking spot and went back to the front desk to change my room. Ordered pizza from Papa John for $16.54 and watched TV for about an hour. Then tried to go online. I could access my email but nothing else, so I went to bed to read a book for about an hour.... read more

Hi Everyone, Well, tired we got up and headed to town where we saw the place where the writers of the movie 'Cars' got their ideas. Here is Wigwam Motel and look for 'Mater'. We also saw tons of petrified rock from the Petrified Forest National Park, we went into the museum and actually left with a piece of petrified wood. As we drove by the park you could see tons of logs of Petried wood all along the interstate. Next came Albuquerque, New Mexico. Pam bought John his birthday present in Old Town Albuquerque, she had to ship it home. We also drove over the very muddy Rio Grande river, we pulled over to go look at it closer but they had it all fenced off. After spending a couple of hours looking around, Pam ... read more

Still in Angel Fire New Mexico. Got up this morning and rode to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial State Park in Angel Fire. The Memorial was constructed from 1968 - 1971 and ws the first major Vietnam memorial in the Wnited States. The site received wide attention in th 70's and helped inspire the establishment on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., in 1982. In 1987 Congress also recognized Angel Fire as a Memorial of national significance. Then rode the "Enchanted Circle" Angel Fire - Eagle Nest - Red River - Questa - Taos- Angel Fire. Angel Fire New Mexico Day 4 and 5 Day 4 Got up this morning, the winds were very strong 30 to 40 gusting to 50 weather clear and nice. There is a fire in the canyon. The road that I came in on is closed due to the fire. Took a ride to Taos, while I was gone the wind bent the poles in my trailer. Got it down and will fold up tomorrow. The guy that runs the RV park is really nice, he is letting me stay in a cabin for the same price as way paying for trailer hook-up. They are not busy this time of the year and he said he would enjoy the company. It is old but clean 2 bedroom, kitchen, bath. It is nice and warm and has TV. ... read more

RV Travels Albuquerque - Spell without looking - I dare you! Albuquerque makes me smile. Trying to be colorful in an adobe world isn’t easy, but Albuquerque’s relaxed style, friendly cultural center experts, Old Town shopping and scary roads to mountain tops makes for colorful stop. Added to that, the joy of visiting with family all weekend makes it banner worthy! We arrive on Thursday and park the RV in the central KOA. Joanie and Billy pick us up and bring us to their “real” house. Not only is it great fun to see Joan and Billy and John and Susan, but to be inside a real house is quite a change - the walls are so far away. Immediately we go riding to check out the area. Considering all of the towns in New Mexico ... read more

Keeping with the tradition of dragging the children and half of our possessions into the wild blue yonder during the worst possible Spring weather, we pointed the truck and newly obtained pop-up camper into the 30mph headwind this weekend and headed south to new pastures. While we are well-versed in the lay of Utah, Arizona and Colorado lands, New Mexico presents a large blank area on our mental maps. Perhaps it is the less-than-inspiring visual gauntlet between our house and said destinations that has thus far deterred extensive exploration to the south, perhaps it's the easy attractiveness of the wild and beautiful spaces in every other direction. For whatever reason, we just don't get down that way very often. So we headed for Chaco or more distinctly, the Chaco Culture National Historic Park. While cathedrals were ... read more

RV Travels Gallop to Gallup - If you love Native American Art Leaving Flagstaff, happily coming down off mountains at last, we head across 40 East and detour North on 87 (You know we don’t like the roads most traveled). In this case, we should have stayed on 40. The journey through the Navajo Nation Reservation consists of bad roads after bad roads and more desert to look at. I know all the dishes in the cabinets and goods in the pantry will tumble out on my head if I forget to open doors carefully. However, we made a very interesting stop at the Hubbell Trading Post in Ganado. It is the oldest continuous operating trading post in the west. Beginning in 1876 Juan Hubbell traded in Navajo country and his story of settlement of the ... read more
