Busy day today! (Pics will be added tomorrow - too tired to upload them tonight!) We started a little late - considering the time we got in last night, we took full advantage of the comfortable beds at our hotel. Drive down to Atlantic City was nice - less smells this time around, which was a welcome change of pace. Driving over the bridge, it was odd to see all the wind-turbines. I mean, good on them for being ecological...it just looks odd to have 5 turbines, and then a wall of Casinos. We parked near the Boardwalk, and off we went! It was quite hot today - 34 with the humidity - so we did our best to stay in the shade. We opted to wait for the Piers, and stick to the Casinos for ... read more

Ahhhh...beer. As Benjamin Franklin so majestically stated oh so long ago, "Beer is living proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy." To celebrate this divine beverage, Atlantic City hosted its 6th annual Beerfest this weekend. The event has garnered support from the bigger players in the industry, like Anheuser Busch, but the real thrill is sampling the numerous American microbreweries that proudly display their craft in one of the state's largest collections and for five childhood friends the terms could not be simpler...sample away! The festivities started Saturday afternoon. Everyone tied up all the loose ends of our ever increasingly busy lives and by noon we were on our way. While I cannot remember the last time "the gang" was all together at the same time, we didn't seem to miss a ... read more

On Saturday we were off to another adventure. The day was beautiful, so we thought a drive to the coast was in order. Although we don't plan to get to Atlantic City very often, we knew we needed to get there just once to see it while living on the east coast. As we expected, the coast is beautiful. But as we got closer to the city, we realized the effects of sin on a culture. From billboards to humongous gambling halls and hotels it was obvious that the emphasis was on self indulgence. After a short drive and a short walk on the board walk we headed home. Here are some observations: 1. Satan is a deceiver: behind every glamorous building were evidence of the ramifications of sin and it wasn't pretty (Gal. 6:7 - ... read more

We're not actually staying in Philadelphia. Our friends live in the small town of Atco, New Jersey, where there are no buses or taxis, so it's either go by foot or by bicycle. We opted for the latter and cycled the 4.5 miles to the train station in 100F heat. It was hard work as it is some time since we last rode bikes!! 40 minutes by train is the coastal resort of Atlantic City. Think Vegas! Casinos and tackiness abound, but unlike Vegas we saw no signs of the sleazy side of life and AC has a nice board-walk to stroll along. Some don't stroll though, opting instead to be pushed along in a moving chair, a little like a rickshaw but with leg power, not pedal power, moving you along. It was too hot ... read more

Hello from Atlantic City, New Jersey. We got here thursday lunchtime after waking up to a rainy day at Ross and Christa's.I caught up e-mails and the blog, Kylie did the washing and the kids caught up on the TV watching !! Atlantic City is only about 1 1/4 away. Found our motel ok, When I booked it I looked for the cheapest one closest to the hall where the concert is. Well thats exactly what we got. Its a 3 storied motel stuck in amongst all the huge hotels around us. Its a bit of a dive but we can walk to the Boardwalk and its got a pool. We went for a walk along the boardwalk , Just looking in the many souvineer shops along there.Went into one of the many Casino shopping centers ... read more

“Go in search of your Gift. The more you understand yourself, the more you will understand the world.” Paulo Coelho Update on stats: 3800km driven, 2 campgrounds, 5 hostels, 2 motels, and still only 1 stop at Mcdonalds. This last week and a half has been a little less hectic. I just arrived in Washington DC and as you can see I only drove approx 1200 kms which is half the driving I did in the first 10 days. It was also more driving to just “get there” rather than touring around. In Boston and Atlantic City I just drove to the hostel/motel and parked it for the time I was there and either walked or took public transportation. Ok, starting with Boston. I loved it there. It was very expensive but I enjoyed the architecture ... read more

September 19th - 13 Days To Go For the past two months, I have been working at Haffords Saloon in Waterville, Maine. Sandra had come to the United States for three months, and came to the end of her tourist allowance on July 6th, so I have been saving up and preparing to go see her in Germany. It has been hard for us to be apart from each other for so long, but it will all be better soon, because I have only thirteen days left before I finally fly to Frankfurt where she (hopefully) will be awaiting my arrival. Although I am only allowed a total of three months stay in the European Union, I'm sure that we will make the best of our time. She has already planned some side trips for us ... read more

... read more

1st Entry: Back from a fun-filled weekend in AC. 1st day: Arrived in AC after 5 hrs on the bus because they decided to close 2 lanes for "road construction". Grabbed food, took pics, shopped (found the watch I wanted at Tourneau, will order when I get back), and headed to Mur Mur @ Borgata. 2nd day: Woke up at 1pm, lunch at Hooters (pretty good Sangria), walked around, napped for 3 hrs, ate at Continental @ Caesars (Chilean sea bass w/chocolate = delicious), and Casbah @ Taj 3rd day: Noodles for lunch, played the slots for an hour-ish, was up $1.50, lost $7.50. 8pm bus home. Now I have to run some errands and start packing for the flight to Oz. :D ... read more
