I was really lucky to get invited to stay with Ryan and his family at their holiday home in Lincoln, New Hampshire. Ryan drove up on the 26 of June, and I came in his car - as we were leaving early. I had to be in New York on the 28 of June to fly back to Amsterdam. He didn’t mind only going for one day. The ride up there was pretty nice. Actually I really enjoyed New Hampshire, from the surrounding nature and the people who lived there. They were really friendly. When we got there we checked into the accommodation and then Ryan took me to the river down by the lodge for a walk. After that he decided to chill out in the lodge. I was still full of energy so I ... read more

Today is the Day! After months of planning, booking and anticipating, the day is finally here. Today I leave the United States and tomorrow my future arrives. For the next 9-12 months I will be living amongst peoples of a different culture, and immerse myself in the local flavor. Tonight, my plane departs Logan Airport at 7pm. My expected arrival time is 6 am in Irish time, or 1am eastern. I am so excited I don't know what to do with myself! I have been packed up for days. All of my reservations and bookings have been confirmed. I have put together all of the details of this trip and it has finally arrived. I will miss many things in the US, but I hope that I will be too busy to think about it that ... read more

so this isn't a new place i traveled to. nothing about this is new. this entry is about the end of a chapter of my life. for 11 years i have gone to Camp Calumet Lutheran for boys and girls in Freedom, NH. i've been a camper, a trainee, and a counselor. camp is a place that has changed my life and has meant more to me than any country in the world ever could. i left on saturday and won't be returning next summer. i don't know how i can put my eleven years of experience into words, but i'm going to try here. camp is love. camp is a place where i found myself. where i learned it was okay to act like a child (in fact, it's encouraged). camp is a place of ... read more

OLYMPICS!!!!! This morning I woke up and found Munchkins by our door (donut holes) and the girls were up at 6:45, so we decided to let them get up early because of their excitement and because it is Mikaylas birthday!! She turns 9 today! Opening Ceremonies was crazy! Each side had cheers and we were going back and forth, then we lit the Olympic torch. Let the games begin! For junior camp we first had Boating, then Team Sport, Individual Sport, Tug of War, and Swimming. So the girls were in sports such as Canoeing, Kayaking, Soccer, Kickball, Tennis, Archery, 50 yard dash, and Relays. At the sports that I went too DC was dominating!!! We were ahead by 200 points for the whole day until the Apache Relay, this relay included the whole camp, all ... read more

Welcome to my travel blog! ...I know that my departure is still a few weeks away, but I wanted to get an early start. Exactly 3 weeks from today I will finally be departing from the states and the following day I will find my destination: Galway, Ireland. What's in Ireland ...Once I arrive in Galway, I will be attending the University of Ireland, Galway. I will be enrolled at the University for 2 semesters, where I will study Literature, Culture, History, and maybe a bit of Psychology. What I really want is to understand another perspective. I want to live amongst a different cultural group and see the world through their eyes and experiences. Ireland is a country with a very diverse history. There have been many different groups of people that have settled and ... read more

This morning we hiked Piermont Mountain, the girls were so pumped for it even though we have been prepping them that it would be difficult! No girls from bunk 12A cried or whined, but we had other cabins with us and they cried and whined and it was a difficult hike but they all did awesome! It took us about an hour and a half to get up and then we ate lunch and relaxed for 2 hours at the top; it was such a nice day, the sun was out and it was really warm. We then hiked down which took 58 minutes and had showers and quiet time and then BBQ and square dance. Busy busy day!!! The girls just realized that there is only a week left of camp….it is crazy how time ... read more

Today has been great! When Reveille went off all my girls had their teeth brushed and were dressed for the day...on top of their game!! If only every morning was like this! We had breakfast, then our morning announcements, and then SIGS, I was the counselor in Nature and this week the topic is Mission Impossible, so we made air guns and decoder maps. The girls then had tennis and I was able to catch up on letter writing which I am behind on! The wind really picked up and it got really cold out, so instead of free swim we stayed in the cabin and played games and danced! After lunch we had water-ski and the sun peeped out for a while, so we were able to catch some rays! After all the girls went ... read more

This morning the girls had softball, it was fun to see them play! BUT 2 girls got hurt, Mira caught a ball with her face instead of her glove and Mikayla dove for a ball and dove too far and it hit her knee instead. All of our girls are getting injured! They then had nature, lunch, swimming lessons, soccer and boating. After our picnic dinner we had hobby night, I was in charge of knitting and luckily the girls in my group, who were from middle camp, already knew how to knit, so I was able to sit back and knit for myself! Bedtime was easy and I was exhausted, but we had a staff meeting at 9:30. When I got back from the staff meeting there was a mouse in my room. I always ... read more

We woke up this morning late and left for Montpelier. Montpelier was on the way to Burlington which was our destination for the day. We walked around the capital which was nice and then we went to the Ben and Jerry’s factory in Waterbury---where Ben and Jerry’s was first opened. We then drove to Burlington which was really cute and went to a couple of the stores before lunch. We went to a pizza parlor for lunch and then off to the beach. It was an awesome relaxing day! We then had a late dinner and stopped by a park to make some phone calls before we headed back to camp. We stopped by Bradford on the way home to celebrate Joe, a fellow staff member’s birthday and we were back at camp by midnight.... read more
