Well we thought we got an early start, had to stop for gas, followed the GPS!!!!!!!, got gas and GPS took us around in a big circle, passing the same gas station then finally got on the road out of College Station by this time it's 7:00 am. and still zero miles, still had 334 miles to travel. We're finally out of Texas, passed through Louisiana and are just inside the border of Mississippi , in Natchez. It was 102 degrees when we got here at 4 pm, had some rain and it dropped to 75 degrees. We had supper at " The Cock of the Walk", once a train depot. It was very good. This ... read more

Wednesday, July 31, 2013 dawned another beautiful sunny day with highs forecast to be in the low 90s. I got an early start with hopes of completing my Pilgrim set-up before the heat of the day had arrived. The trip from Baton Rouge LA to Natchez MS via US 61 is only about 90 miles and is designated in my atlas as a scenic route for the entire distance. Scenic is a subjective term, but I will concede the drive along the mostly 4-lane divided highway was relaxing and enjoyable with minimal reminders of human intrusion. I arrived at the Plantation RV Park before I reached Natchez. The RV park is in the front end of what appears to be a mobile home community or permanently placed RVs. Although the park is located right on US ... read more

7/27/13 - Rode around Tunica a bit, then played the slots a bit. Aleta won $41.50, but later played it away. Shelby T. put $20.00 in slots and played it away, later put $20.00 in electronic BlackJack and played for hours before loosing. Dakota stayed at the motorhome and watched TV while Briar rode with us and played in the arcades. Shelby T. fixed large lima beans, BBQ chicken, and bread. Jack and Barbara did one of the buffets. Ready to head home.... read more

7/26/13 - Leaving Hannibal, MO. to Sikeston, MO. We will have supper there, "The Home of The Throwed Rolls". They have three locations, Ozark, MO, Sikeston, MO, and Foley, AL. If you are near any of their locations, GO EAT THERE!! In St. Louis, MO we drove by the Gateway Arch. After Sikeston, we decided to drive on into Tunica, MS after having ice cream in Olive Branch, MS. Long drive, but made it fine to Sam's Town RV Park by Sam's Town Casino. Really nice full hookiup park at $17.xx per night. I did not realize how many casinos were in Tunica. There are like 10 different casinos here.... read more

My departure from Andalusia AL on Wednesday, July 10, 2013 was uneventful. My GPS guided me over a few miles of state and county roads before I made my way onto westbound US 84/AL 12 towards Evergreen AL. There I caught I-65 to Mobile AL and I-10 to Biloxi MS where I exited onto MS 67 and some county roads to the Woodland Farm RV Campground south of Saucier MS. The owner had properly cautioned me over the phone that the location is about 20 minutes from the downtown Biloxi casinos; however, I relished the calm at the end of the day. This small park is rural and quiet and (from all appearances) is a retirement hobby and social outlet for the very accommodating owner. Thursday was properly forecast for rain for most of the day, ... read more

Travels with Snowbirds Tuesday July 2 2013 Talladega AL to Campground at Barnes Crossing Tupelo MS All about Elvis. Today was one of the best days ever. Up early, still have not adjusted to the time change, but that’s ok. A few long check in/check up on Mommy phone calls later I was on the road by 8:30 headed north and west towards Tupelo, MS. I said goodbye to I20 in Birmingham and headed on another new road, in some places I22, in others the same road has the US78 Designation. Going thru Birmingham, it was a larger town than I thought of, it had a few tall buildings, more than Wilmington, that’s for sure. Just west of Birmingham the topography changed. The rolling hills were still there, but longer and steeper, if that makes any ... read more

In Vicksburg, MS -- Kota waoke up at 10:40AM wanting to go to the pool. :-) We all made the pool and then Aleta went to the casino while Shelby, Dakota, and Briar went to the Vicksburg Military Park (renamed to be politically correct, I guess). Aleta made her donation and returned to the motorhome. Shelby, Dakota, and Briar enjoyed the park, the cannons, the monuments, the Cairo ( an ironclad which was raised from the river. Had supper from Subway. Kids went back to the pool, Briar rode his bicycle in the park.... read more

Aug. 20, 2012 My husband and I traveled to the town of Tupelo, Mississippi for the sole reason it is the birthplace of Elvis Presley. We arrived in the late afternoon at the Elvis Presley Birthplace and Museum. Once again we were limited on time, so we decided to skip the museum but purchsed tickets to see the inside of the two room house where Elvis was born. Once we entered the small house we were greeted by a friendly woman who shared her knowledge of the house. Directly across from the house was the church Elvis attended as a child. Church services were being held. Along the walkway, events dealing with the first thirteen years of Elvis' life are displayed as well as a statue of a young Elvis and a car similiar to one ... read more

Geo: 30.3954, -88.9728Weather was cooler today with temperatures between 10 and 12 C. So far our weather has been great. This morning it was sunny but turned to cloud and very windy anywhere near the shore. We travelled to Biloxi which is a major casino town. Obviously tourism and gambling is the source of income. We visited Beauvoir which is a National Historical Landmark and a Mississippi Historic Landmark. It was built by James Brown in 1852 and included many structures which were destroyed by Katrina in 2005. In fact the main house was turned sideways during the hurricane and the water was one foot above the main floor level. It has since been turned back and the damage repaired. The Browns fled inland with the onset of the Civil War. The property was sold by court auction ... read more

Geo: 30.447, -88.841Today we began our trip back towards New Orleans. We left Pensacola and headed along the Gulf Highway through Perdido Key and Orange Beach. No pictures because area was similar to yesterday except even more high rise condo buildings. The area is basically a long Island which parallels the mainland shore. Definitely a tourist and vacation area with lots of vacation rentals, surf shops and restaurants. We then head north and west through Foley and Magnolia Springs to Fairhope which is a picturesque town. Along the way we stopped in to a pecan processing facility, a cute little coffee shop and a restaurant known for throwing rolls. Apparently the practice is that if a customer is waiting for his meal and is hungry the waiters will throw a roll at the customer. In Fairhope ... read more
