Typically the day we left Boston for our drive down to Cape Cod was the best weather yet. We decided to drive through Weymouth MA - because when you come from the old Weymouth you should compare it to the new Weymouth. It was very picturesque, however we never managed to find the town centre - maybe it doesn’t have one. The Town Hall puts ours to shame though. The Cape is certainly much bigger than you initially think, and with beaches either side, a zigzag route proves confusing but picturesque. Discovering the limits on the roads is interesting and less [View Full Entry]

I think I mentioned in my previous blog that I love the book shops in America. My very favourite author is Edith Wharton who writes of C19th New York society and I have read most of her novels. So when I spotted a collection of ghost stories by her, I immediately bought it. I am a fan of the short-story genre, although (like a lot of the things I like) I am aware it is not very popular or fashionable. I also like ghost stories, although of the higher-calibre M R James variety rather than any tales involving vampires (what is [View Full Entry]

Well, it was a busy weekend. On the Friday, we jumped in the car to go to a Kings of Leon concert, which was great, despite a rainstorm. There were about 40,000 people there, mostly drunk, but there was no trouble. From what I have seen, Americans are quite laid-back and friendly; more likely to help a stranger than most Brits with our don't-look-and-you're-not-involved mentality and less likely to initiate a fracas. Leaving the stadium with the crowds I couldn't help thinking to myself that, if this was Glasgow, fists would be flying. On Saturday (after our obligatory exercise class) [View Full Entry]

Provincetown is located at the tip on Cape Cod. It is a charming little town that is extremely gay friendly - the first thing you will notice upon disembarking the Boston ferry and walking up the dock onto Commercial St. is all the rainbow flags. You will probably also notice before you even get off the ferry that there's an awful lot of gay people who love going to P-Town. But there are also a lot of antique stores and whatnot that cater to the old lady crowd, and there's lots of vacationing families too. We stayed at the Provincetown Inn, [View Full Entry]

September 12th started with rain and so we did what Mark Twain advised and waited. Unfortunately he lied, it didn’t let up all day, so we decided to visit the MIT Museum in the morning. It was really interesting and covered scientific breakthroughs ranging from underwater vehicles, robotics and the part MIT played in the moon landings. The worrying aspect was that there was a computer in there that Chris had used at the start of his career. Age showing through again! Caught the train out to the 'burbs and spent a great afternoon with a couple of friends. Amazing the [View Full Entry]

Every adventure has a beginning and ours starts on the 10th September 2009 right here in sunny Boston, well we would like to say sunny Boston but unfortunately we have brought the rain with us and left the UK in a late summer heatwave, regrets already, not a chance. Starting from the beginning, our Virgin flight from Heathrow to Boston was very good, with our premium economy seats proving very spacious and comfy and best of all it was basically eat and drink the whole flight. Some people are not fans of plane food, but personally (this is Lisa speaking) I [View Full Entry]

Every day when she returns from work, my sister asks me what I have done that day. And I tell her, starting my list (as is only logical) with "Well, I got up....." "Well, you know you aren't busy when you include "well, i got up" in what you did in a day!" snaps my sister. But I have been at least fairly busy - not least with my fitness efforts. The extent of my athletic prowess may be demonstrated by the fact that I judge my success in a class as to whether I am "not the worst" in the [View Full Entry]

Hey everyone! I've started this blog as a means to keep in contact with everyone while I'm gone, rather than typing 50 individual emails to each person telling them about my trip (if that were the case, the only updates would be that I've completed 49 new emails since the last time you heard from me.) Don't worry mom, I'll call you also :) Feel free to send this link to anyone who may want to read... See you in a couple months! -Liz [View Full Entry]

Hello Friends and Family, as you may have guessed by my current location (still Boston, MA), I havn't actually left the country yet. I'm 1 week late, and i've got 1 more week to go...and heres why: Table of Contents: 1) the actual story of what happened that frightful night 2) the quick reader's digest version (for those who prefer the quick sum up) 3) conclusions 1) The Red Brick Road: An Adventure in Peter's Park I had a 6am flight on Sunday Aug 30th, and was planning on arriving to the airport 4am that morning. We kicked off our long day of walking by starting at the famous home of the Boston red Sox, Fenway Park. Since there wasn't a game being played there that day we were able to park on the street for the entire day free of charge. After walking around the stadium we headed off to the Prudential Tower. On the way we passed a firehouse which the architecture was amazing and also snagged a picture next to a Ferrari on the street. The views from the top of the tower were exquisite as the weather that day was perfect. Next stop [View Full Entry]
