We took the train from New York to Providence, RI. We walked from the train station to Avis where we had reserved a car. After picking up our car we drove one and a half hours to Hyannis. We checked into the Sea Coast Inn which is just a few blocks from the port and downtown Hyannis. After checking in we walked to Spanky’s Clam Shack for a great seafood dinner. After dinner we walked down Hyannis Main Street and checked out the shops. Our first full day in Cape Cod we drive to Provincetown. Provincetown is at the northern tip of Cape Cod. Provincetown is the site of the Mayflower landing in 1620. The town is called P-town by locals is a haven for artists, lesbians and gay men. The town was full of tourists ... read more

This is my 100th published blog. I started the blog when I retired and it is a good record of our travels. We arrived in Boston by train. A short trip from Providence. We take an Uber to our hotel. It is 3:00 and raining so we decide to go to the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. The day is almost over and admission is $27 but we decide to go anyway. Yea, we arrive and find out it is one of the few free days. I thought the museum would be crowded but it is not. Since we are short on time we will focus on European art, our favorite. The museum also has the Obama Portraits and the cost is $25 but since today is free day entrance to the Obamas's portraits are free ... read more

Woke up this morning; both of us parched. We need to drink some more water before heading to bed….last night “I” kept a water bottle next to me to sip on when I woke up in the night (Shelley will do the same tonight). I decided on trekking over to the main lodge which wasn’t far away to have a shower in the facilities there. Shelley braved it and remained here in the RV to try out the shower stall here. She’s just finishing now, so we’ll get a report soon. My shower was in the men’s washroom and change area located beside the pool. Camp staff were cleaning the ladies area, but the men’s was free for me to start using. They have those combo stalls; an area with a large overhead shower head separated ... read more

So we decided to head up the highway to Cape Cod. We were going to aim for Provincetown as it was up the Cape quite a way, but then decided on Hyannis instead since it was just under an hour of travel for us. Good decision. We arrived in town, and we were following the directions when the GPS hiccupped and I continued going straight instead of making a right turn. We ended up at Keyes Memorial Beach in the town of Barnstable. We found a large parking lot right next to some beach access. After we parked the RV we gathered Maggie and walked up onto the beach. The sand was thick, heavy, and compared to Florida’s, it had a bit more grit. We ambled up to take in the vista. I turned my head ... read more

We made it from Ottawa yesterday to Middleborough, Massachusetts arriving a little after 5:00 pm. This was our first time driving an RV. The engine is a bit louder than we’re used to, and there’s more ‘correction’ to be done to keep oneself ‘centred up’ the lane of travel. The wind is more easily felt while you are driving as well, which when received as a ‘gust’ of wind, it can set your heart jumping a bit. Crossing the border at Ogdensburg was a breeze. There were three cars ahead of us and it took us no time to arrive at the border agent’s booth. We were asked if we were vaccinated. “Yes,” we replied. “Do you have proof?” Shelley gleefully reached in to her treasure trove of papers and whipped out two freshly printed copies ... read more

This morning we woke up and prepared breakfast - fried eggs on brioche toast with Swiss cheese. Shelley made her tea, and I brewed up some Chock Full ‘O Nuts coffee that I had bought at Walmart the night before. With breakfast done, we turned our attention to getting the RV ready for our trip from our campsite to park it up at the Ferry Terminal in Hingham, Massachusetts. The parking lot was huge and cost $2.00 bucks to park for the day. We took the ferry across the harbour from HIngham to Boston landing right at the edge of downtown…steps away from the Quincy Market. We had Maggie in her backpack carrier and she loved being able to come with us. Today is Maggie’s 1st birthday, so she spent it in style. From the ferry, ... read more

Dear All Greetings, in this my final blog entry on my amazing two-week trip around New England. If it hasn't been made clear so far, I absolutely loved this trip! After a couple of mini-trips to the Isle of Man and Ireland earlier in the year, it was my first proper travelling trip in quite a while, and it thoroughly confirmed not only how much I just love travelling, but also how much I love the United States of America! I will certainly be back again in future years to explore more. Last time I wrote, I believe I was settling in for my final evening in my cosy accommodation in West Springfield. I had a slightly more unsettled sleep on my second night there, after realising that the boiler in the basement flat came on ... read more

Dear All Greetings again from London, writing up my fifth blog entry on my travels through New England. This time I'm writing about my very off-the-beaten track journey through the peripheral parts of Connecticut and Massachusetts. I wasn't exactly on the international travellers' track before either, but this time I felt that I was certainly making my own trail through the region. I loved every minute of it! On the Tuesday morning I left the swish apartment in New Haven's classy East Rock district, and caught a cheeky ride on the Yale University student shuttle bus into New Haven town centre. I figured with my youthful looks (!) and posh English accent, I could pass as a Yale Grad student, and it worked! Although after asking the bus driver whether he went to New Haven Green, ... read more

Dear All Greetings again from England, with this my second blog entry of my amazing time in New England over the Easter holidays. This one will write about the thoroughly enjoyable time that I had in the very famous Cape Cod, probably my favourite place visited on this trip. It was outside of the tourist season, so very free of the crowds of tourists which apparently flock there in the summer, so I could completely enjoy the peace and serenity of this unique peninsula jutting out into the Atlantic Ocean, surrounded on all sides by beautiful coastlines and sea - it was just lovely! Although the morning that I left Boston was still cold with an icy wind, it didn't seem as bad as the day before, and I spent most of it indoors anyway. After ... read more
