Friday September 25th 2009 The one thing that Boston is probably more famous for than anything else is 'The Freedom Trail', a cradle of liberty if you will and a route that takes visitors through the entire heart of the city via a red brick line that stretches for 2.5 miles. Along the route, you'll discover everything about Boston and the events that occurred 230 years ago that make this a place that is full of American tourists who are looking to find out about their own heritage, as well as international’s seeking some understanding of the American way. I would [View Full Entry]

Thursday September 24th 2009 I'll be honest in that I have always been an early riser, but even by my standards today was too early. For some unknown reason I was up at 5am!! With Kay sound asleep, I powered through by reading about 30 two page chapters of 'The Lost Symbol' the latest Dan Brown book that continues the adventures of Robert Langdon and so far is surprisingly good and quite apt considering it is all about American symbols and the essence of America's founding fathers/Masons. When Kay did eventually come round, we quickly got ready and having looked out [View Full Entry]

Wednesday September 23rd 2009 If the sound of riding the streets of Boston on a Trolley Bus tour sounds like an easy and not too exhausting thing to do - think again!! Its bloody tiring but very much worth it! Another lazy morning with Blueberry Muffins and Orange Juice in the hotel before we headed over to Boston Common to catch the 9am Trolley Bus that takes you on a 2 hour tour of the whole city of Boston, stopping at 17 different locations with a narration of all the fascinating landmarks and history that make Boston the city it is. 22nd September Woo-hoo!! We're here in Boston, and all in all its looking great as the sun rises over the city and today looks like its going to be a great day. Travelling was a rather interesting experience! Having arrived at the airport about 3 hours early so Kay can abuse the various retail outlets we spent about an hour using self check-in machines and waiting for the baggage machine to start working again. After all of that hassle, there was only one thing to do so we headed for TGI Fridays to enjoy some pre-honeymoon cocktails. After a little while [View Full Entry]

Tuesday - 22nd September Boston is fantastic - it really is everything you could want in a great city and both of us already feel we made a great choice coming on Honeymoon here. The weather is great (about 22), the parks look stunning and thrown into that is an amazing and vibrant city that is very busy and full of history. Having recovered from our flights, we had a lazy morning in our hotel room before heading out to just have a look about the area for a few hours and pick up the tickets for the American Football game [View Full Entry]

Yesterday we left early for Provincetown in order to catch the 10 am whale watching trip. It was a gorgeous day with calm seas, even though the boat had to turn back the previous day because of rough seas. There is a marine sanctuary not too far off the tip of the cape where the humpback whales gather to feed on their migration and that's where the boat headed. The naturalist on board was wonderful and did a very thorough job explaining about the whales. On the 3 hour trip we saw 14 humpback whales, including several mother-calf pairs. We left Provincetown to travel to Falmouth and another glorious sunny day. En route we decided to stop in Chatham, again on a peninsula - Chris likes places on peninsulas - go figure. Anyway the beach was stunning, albeit far too dangerous for swimming. You could feel the ferocity of mother nature, as the wind was very strong even on a beautiful day and the sea currents looked treacherous. The lovely houses perched precariously on the cliff edge looked desirable, until you heard one of the locals telling how the present day landscape was created only a couple of years ago [View Full Entry]

We are here on the Cape, and what an adventure that was! We left yesterday morning, intending to drive leisurely down the coast, stop in Ipswich for a fried clam lunch, and yet be through Boston before the afternoon rush hour started. It was a beautiful day AGAIN yesterday, perfect for driving along the coast. We drove through Kennebunkport, and stopped at Ogunquit to walk a bit.....that's where we saw the beached whale, which was unfortunately dead. Beautiful beach, as you can see. Our timing for lunch was great; got to the Clam Box in Ipswich before the rush (yes, another [View Full Entry]

We decided to take the Greyhound bus from Toronto to Boston - not sure if it's worth the saved money. Perhaps if we would have went with a bus company that went to Boston directly, instead of stopping at a bunch of towns along the way, it would have been a nicer experience. But our bus was late leaving Toronto, so we missed our connection in Buffalo, causing us to wait in the Buffalo bus station for roughly 2 hours from 12:30-2:30am. But once again, immediately upon crossing the border, I was struck by the intense friendliness of Americans. I was [View Full Entry]

Go Sox! North America » United States » Massachusetts » Boston
I have traveled much of the United States, visiting some of the most recognizable cities in the country, if not the world, on more than one occasion. But, and I'm not completely sure why, I have never taken the chance to visit Boston---or Massachusetts for that matter. No, I'm not a Red Sox fan, nor do I know the burrows or the slang for ordering their local cuisine, but I am addicted to history and heritage, and have been told on numerous occasions that Boston is one of the most influentially historical cities in the Northeast, if not North America. So, [View Full Entry]
