Today: Left Home. Drove 2 hours to Logan Airport to send off someone I don't care about all to much. Drove north to Maine. Other Home. Now: Fingers itching. And? Watching TV. "Confident travellers are different" Sings a commercial tag line. Confident traveller. What does make thee? It seems those two words resound some sort of resonance somewhere inside. Whether that is because I am a confident traveller or whether I aspire to be, I have yet to realize. Maybe because in my mind there is a connection between a confident traveller and a confident writer. The most paradisi [View Full Entry]

1-8-07 Left Emily and Jason’s around 9:00 AM. It rained virtually the whole day. Saw a double rainbow in Maine. Bar Harbor is a long way up there. Stopped in Portland at Becky’s diner for lunch. Had a great Haddock sandwich. Maybe the best fish sandwich I have ever had. Enjoyed talking to the people working there. Made it to Bar Harbor around 6:30. The Hostel is great, especially because I was the only one there. It is off-season in this resort area. Nova is very nice. I kept wanting to call her Super Nova, but resisted the temptation as I [View Full Entry]

Day Negative 2 Weather is calm. Not a cloud in the sky, or as far as I (Elena) can see from the computer lab window. Supplies. We need some. Specifically a water bottle, jam and maple syrup (for gifts, we don't just enjoy these things). Besides that though, we're set to go. Yay Peru! Elena and Tom [View Full Entry]

Days to Departure: 1. Amount of stuff I still have to do before I leave: Infinite. Anywho, I'm putting together this site to act as a compilation of my experiences traveling and studying abroad in Belize. This is my last year at the University of Vermont, and amazingly enough, I still have the opportunity to study abroad, despite pending graduation. Perhaps this will provide me some insight as to what comes next, as I've been quite satisfied with life as a student. One can only hope. Right now, I'm sitting around in dismal midcoast Maine, and finding it difficult to prepare [View Full Entry]

Miracle 2

Before I begin this journal entry, I would like to apologize for the long delay in postings, there has been a lot of stress and business preparing for my Masters Comprehensive Exams (which I took earlier this week and will have a post about later on) and I have a lot of things to post to catch up with lost time. If you are subscribed I apologize, but you may get a dumping of update e-mails, don't worry the torential postings will stop soon enough! This is a tale about the fickle balance of friends/family and the stress of studing for [View Full Entry]

We’ve been asked by many of you to keep you abreast of our activities during our year away from Andover and we will do our best to bring you along on our fall days in downeast Maine, then on our journey across the U.S. to winter in Tucson and back again. It’s all about time. Our sabbatical officially started in September, and we delighted in making new use of the customary school days by visiting parts of Maine and New England we'd never had time to before: Camden (for a Maine Fare food festival), Monhegan (a spectacular coastal Maine island), Searsport [View Full Entry]

If you haven't seen that episode of the simpsons that title will probably make nooooooooo sense. Anyhoo, onto my thanksgiving break! At UVM we get a week off over thanksgiving, which is cool. For most of the break I went to a place just outside of Portland (the capital of Maine) callled Yarmouth. I travelled to Maine by Greyhound bus, because there is a terminal in Burlington which makes it really easy. Though driving straight to Yarmouth from Burlington should take about 4 hours, my bus ride took 8. This, I discovered, was because the bus went down to Boston before [View Full Entry]

We spent a rather unpleasant day driving 200 miles through Maine in continuous rain from Bethel in the west to the Acadia National Park on Mount Desert Island on the Atlantic coast. We are staying in a very pleasant bed and breakfast house in Southwest harbour. Fortunately the weather cleared in the evening and we able to take a pleasant walk along the coast by Bar Harbour, the largest town on the island. For dinner, I achieved a first. Under close instruction from the restaurant owner I managed to consume a local lobster. It was delicious. [View Full Entry]
