No fat, self-service, buffet breakfast today (with or without tips) as we were all sorted having stocked-up at the supermarket yesterday. We had planned to walk across to Bar Island today, but that can only be reached at low tide. Unless we were prepared to go at some unearthly hour in the morning, low tide was at 2.00pm, which gave us a perfect excuse for another morning relaxing and the kids having a mess-around in the pool. The causeway to the island is exposed between about one and half hours before low tide and one and a half hours afterwards. We got there at about 1.00pm, which allowed plenty of time to walk across, walk up to a nice view point on the island and walk back, with no real risk that we would end up ... read more

Geo: 44.3425, -68.2464We began the day at 9:30, 72 degrees, and headed east. The drive took us through a number of small towns, all with a lot in common. We saw many woodshops where artisans make furniture from locally grown trees. And we saw gift shops and antique shops all calling out to the many tourists, but not to us. We even saw one sign that said "Antique Books and Wine". Did the owners really mean what it says? I hope not. And all along the way there was an American flag flying from every other telephone pole along the roadside. Added to the flags flying at many homes and businesses, one could come to the conclusion that Mainers are patriotic. It was a warming sight.Acadia National Park. What can I say about this park? Say "New England" and we think lobstah!! Our quest began in Portsmouth, NH and continued into Maine and Massachusetts. I'd be embarrassed to admit just how many we devoured along the way. After arriving at Logan International, we picked up our rental car and headed to Portsmouth, NH to have dinner with our friends, Dana, Carol, and John. Our first taste of lobster was sitting dockside along the Piscataqua River. It was a fun evening with good company and classic harbor views. We were delighted with the beach town of Ogunquit in southern Maine. The Marginal Way Walk along the rocky coast and the 3 mile long beach made this a two day stop of walking and exploring. We enjoyed the extra hour of sleep as we awoke this Fourth of July. I got the gym again this morning, concentrating on the arms today. When I got back, there had been an announcement that we can clear US immigration at any time up in the Exploration Lounge. We decided not to wait for our 9:15 AM appointment, go there now, and then head to the Dining Room for breakfast before it closes at 9:00 AM this morning. I went with the oatmeal and banana and the Frittata Italiano again, and Sharon had French Toast. We met another couple, Vivian and John at our table for eight were from California.
