August finds us still in Maine, and working at the RV camp ground. Here's the latest updates. We had an series of international visits. First our first exchange student (from Sweden) Kristina came to vast for 2 weeks. We had to drive into Portland, Maine to pick her up at the airport; 11pm at night. She was almost exactly the same as when we saw her last in 1996, just a little older and a little skinnier. She was a great help in the campground, she didn't have a real vacation because she helped Mike with his campground clean-up. Her favorite part was getting to ride on the ATV motorcycle as Mike sped about the campgrounds. The 2nd day of her visit she and Mike were playing badminton and she sprained her ankle. The last 2 days have been very rainy. We have been used to the northern California summers which means absolutely no rain! Since we have been here it has rained at least once per week. And not a little rain either. But big rains lasting at least 3 hours accompanied by big nasty clouds and usually thunder. When they rain over here they mean business. None of this summer showers stuff. I thought it was time to let everyone know what a typical day is like for us living the semi-retirement life. We work 2 days a week. On Sunday we are the primary workers from 12 to 9 pm. I usually work in the office/store which means answering the phone, making camping reservations, and checking campers in. Time for another chapter in our life in Maine. Yesterday was quite an exciting day. Woke up to beautiful weather so we decided to take a canoe out for a test ride. We have the river mapped out in sections so we know how difficult each section is and how it takes to travel it. We started with the smallest section so we could get our feet wet as we haven’t been in a canoe for years. The river is very pretty and easy for the inexperienced to handle. Most of the time the river was only 3 to 4 feet deep and very slow. No rapids or anything to worry about.
