My quick overview of our time in Central Illinois to Indiana & back to Chicago. Jan 1st – traveled to Mahomet, IL stayed with Alyssa (1st cousin) & Nathan and saw Caitlin (1st cousin) & Sam as they were having a movie marathon weekend. Watched the Oregon Ducks kick Florida State Seminoles booty in the Rose Bowl which advanced the Ducks to the 1st Annual College Football National Championship Game (ahem-won't talk about the results of that game). Jan 2nd – Bennett turned 9 months old & we traveled to his 7th state visited, Indiana. Rented from Enterprise Rent A Car in Champaign, IL and drove to Indianapolis, IN to visit Laurence & Carli and Kali’s family. I am an uneducated football fan. I love football. I know little about it other than touchdowns, field goals, hard hits and pile ups. I don’t know much, but I am enthusiastic about it! Being a resident of the greater Cincinnati area, I am, of course, a Bengals fan. I also, some years ago after reading Tony Dungy’s “Quiet Strength”, became an Indianapolis Colts fan, and held on to that even after he left. At the last Bengals/Colts meeting, I hosted a small pizza party at my home and declared that I was all in rooting for the offense, which was a little one sided that day, because the Colts demolished the Bengals! My friends and family were angry and depressed, but I was a winner either way, so it was a good day! So, on ... read more

One more fair before the summer ends!! Closing out with one final "HOORAY" for the fairs for this summer goes to the INDIANA STATE FAIR 2014. What's not to like about this state fair? Interesting grub to taste like a cheeseburger set between two whole Krispy Crème Glazed doughnuts, Fried Milky Way Bars, Fried Twinkies, Giant Amish Doughnuts and Shaved Icee's just to name a few treats. (All items mentioned received a thumbs up with only one complaint towards the fried Twinkie: not cooked all the way through). Tuesdays are known as $2.00 taste days where you can taste food for $2.00, a win for all foodie addicts. There is a big building devoted to Indiana's dairy farmers with the yummiest and creamiest looking ice cream I have seen. Unfortunately, I was too stuff to take ... read more

My first tip for someone reading this blog is to pack a nice basket of snacks and a blanket! This park is relaxing, quite and very easy to enjoy. Its right next to the actual IMA building and there is free parking as well as it being free to explore as well. You will be walking a bit to cover the grounds so bring water as well. Walking through some of the gardens by the Eli Lilly family house reminded me of some of the gardens in Europe with Greek statues tucked about here and there. We came upon the Eli Lilly home by accident as I did not know it was going to be there. The Eli Lilly Family is a prominent family from Indianapolis who built a pharmaceutical empire and has a prominent building ... read more

Ever read about those new posh restaurants that pop up in your city, ever thought about going but was afraid because the online menu leaves you confused....just GO, GO, GO!!! My brother in-law invited us out to celebrate his birthday before going on his mission trip to Africa. His wife decided to make reservations at Cerulean Restaurant, attached to the artsy Alexander hotel. One of the highlights advertised is the "Birds Nest" table inside the restaurant. The menu was creative. We all tried different things and shared them. The number one choice was the "Ravioli" which is one fresh pasta ravioli with a poach egg yolk inside and the smoked duck over the lemon sauce pasta. We giggled over "Sweet Breads" and argued over what they actually were versus Andrew Zimmerman's explanation on the food channel. ... read more

I was planning on leaving early (Friday night), That didn't happen. Then I figured I could get an early start on Saturday, Nope, didn't happen. My goal was to get to Indianapolis before the restaurant I wanted to eat at closed at 10 pm, That's right, didn't happen. Along the way I had a deer run in front of me on I-90 in North West PA, close call but no contact. I found about 30 minutes of stand still traffic in Dayton, OH. I stopped at a Days Inn at 9:30 pm. It took till 10:15 to get checked in, The desk clerk kept complaining about all the paperwork she has to do to check in each customer, but it was no more than any other Hotel. She was just slow. After all that waiting, a ... read more

Southeastern Parkway has become a favorite for my family in Indianapolis. Its clean, its fun and has a lot to offer like parks, trails, walking paths, biking baths and a small nature center that's occasionally open to teach things. This weekend we were granted some sunshine after a week of cold gloomy days. Not wanting to waste it I took the kids to the park and was surprised that it was maple Syrup Harvesting time. So we have always bought the cheap pancake syrup in the grocery store and did not know now about the real 100% good stuff! The center was open and some friendly gentlemen told my kids to come around back as they were boiling down the sap collected from the parks tree's to make syrup. We were told only Canada and certain ... read more
