So after a flying visit to LA and boarding the world’s smallest plane, we landed in San Diego at around 9pm. It was surprisingly quiet, even more so when considering where we had just come from. After checking in to the hotel we were equally impressed with the place even if it was on a smaller scale. The next day began with breakfast at the hotel which was very posh. It was then into our pre planned visit to SeaWorld. As you expect you are treated to lots of sea life and shows from the killer whales, dolphins and sea lions. The shows are definitely the highlight of the park and each one is very different. If you like getting wet there are also designated ‘soak zones’ at each show and you don’t just get a ... read more

As our departure from San Diego approaches, Peter and I sit waiting for Shanes ‘Speciality’ barbequed Burgers…Hungry and tired after a fun day. Actually, a fun week! After leaving Los Angeles, we rented a car and things didn’t go exactly according to plan, we got ripped off at the car rental joint, got a flat tyre and then ended up at the wrong ‘Date Avenue’! Anyway, apart from all that, the 3 hour drive took us about 7 hours! It was so beautiful along the coast road. We passed Huntington Beach, Newport, and Laguna Beach to mention a few. Looking back now, we wished we had spent a few days doing that drive and stopping overnight in a few places….maybe some other time!! Eventually, after getting to the correct ‘Date Avenue’ and driving past the house ... read more

A+, Jean-Pierre... read more

A+, Jean-Pierre... read more

After Moab we headed down to Colorado and Mesa Verde National Park, site of ancient indian cities, and entertaining park rangers. We took a tour through the city which was built right into the rock, then Marsh had a go at making fire, and succeeded! After that we made our way, via Navajo Monument National Park to the Grand Canyon - the highlight of our trip so far. We had intended to stay for a couple of days but ended up deciding to go on the waiting list for a back country permit, this meant we could camp down in the canyon overnight. Over a couple of mornings we waited at the office and met Nick, a local Arizonian who told us all about the canyon, as he'd been down every trail it has. We also ... read more

Day 150 (Thursday 17/09/09, NJJ) It was great waking up as husband and wife after the perfect wedding day. Joan, John, Joyce, Jamie and I all had a sunshine breakfast together again. Ang and Rhys, and Moira and Rob all joined us soon after. Ang and Rhys stopped for a bit before leaving Coronado to move on for the rest of their holiday and Moira and Rob went off for the day. The rest of us spent time by the pool and Jamie and I relaxed in the jacuzzi too. We all chatted about how good the day before had been. There were so many things that I'd forgotten to do but nothing that was important thankfully. We had lunch at a diner on Orange Ave then wandered around the shops. Jamie and I went for ... read more

Day 149 (Wednesday 16/09/09, NJJ) I woke at 6.45am but was so tired from waking during the night that I struggled to get up at 7.15am. Mam was up before me doing the motherly wedding day stuff bless her. I stepped outside to say 'Good Morning Wedding Day'. The weather was glorious and I felt totally calm. Janet phoned me to wish all the best. Jamie came down shortly after. That was when I started to get a little stressed but it didn't last long. I had the odd panic throughout the day but only minor and for seconds. Jamie checked us into our rooms for the next two nights and came back to get me to see our room - the hotel had complimentarily upgraded us to a mansion room, 'Lillie's bedroom' as a wedding ... read more

Day 148 (Tuesday 15/09/09, NJJ) Checked out of the hotel by 10am. Drove south to Chula Vista to shopping outlet, on the Mexican border. Bought a few things including a pair of gold Kenneth Cole shoes that I fell in love with! We bumped into Moira and Rob at the outlet. Jamie finally managed to get a pair of shoes to go with his wedding suit and Mam bought herself white jeans which she's wanted for ages. Gave Moira and Rob a lift back to their hotel, also in Coronado, booked appointments at the hairdressers for Wedding day and then went on to the Glorietta Bay Inn to check in for the next three nights. For the first night Jamie shared with Joyce and I shared with Mam and John. Had cookies and lemonade on arrival. ... read more
