Day 139 (Sunday 06/09/09, NJJ) The loud noises from the trains on the nearby tracks wasn't too disturbing during the night. Had a short walk around Flagstaff then drove back to Grand Canyon N.P. Did some more of the viewpoints which we didn't get to see yesterday then left the park after an hour or so. It was very busy there due to being holiday weekend. The weather was glorious. On to Williams. Had food at a Denny's and drove around the Route 66 loop. Stopped for ice cream at a Route 66 'Diner'. After driving for a time we checked [View Full Entry]

Day 140 (Monday 07/09/09, NJJ) Labour Day USA Had a look at the Route 66 tac at the visitor centre. Left Kingman for California on the I40 West. Got excited when we passed the 'Welcome to California' roadsign. Drove alongside the Mojave National Preserve. Had a wander around 'Dollar Tree' and I had to buy some bits 'n' bobs to Jamie's frustration. In Barstow we stopped at a Tanger Outlet where I bought my first pair of Nine West shoes of this trip. The campsite we planned to stay at for the night was much further away than expected and then [View Full Entry]

Classic Route 66 Diner

Day 138 (Saturday 05/09/09, NJJ) Slept well last night. Left campground by 10am. Saw the road formerly known as Route 666, that was the official road name until it was changed for the benefit of the superstitious. Left Monticello, passed by Mexican Hat (the town and rocks), into Navajo land and on to Monument Valley. Soon after the skies opened up and we pulled off the road for a bit. The weather cleared and once again it was hot and sunny. The land was pretty but as not as well run as it would be if it was managed by the [View Full Entry]

Day 137 (Friday 04/09/09, NJJ) We both hardly slept last night - it was sooo windy! Drove the scenic drive in Capitol Reef National Park and then on to Canyonlands National Park. We've seen some more spectacular scenery and vast lands. Saw on the sights including North and South window, and delicate arch. There was a rain shower following the thunder and the scenery was still amazing, just shown in a different light. Saw a few rainbows. We drove through Moab on route to Monticello. Arrived at destination around 7.30pm. Tent up at the not-so-well lit Mountain View RV park and [View Full Entry]

Saw bighorn sheep along the way. Had food at a roadside diner - buffalo chicken salad each, couldn't face the Special K. Passed through Dixie National Forest. At Bryce Canyon went to a number of viewing points - Sunrise point, Sunset point, Inspiration point and Bryce point. Great views and the hoodoos were cool. On towards Capitol Reef National Park. It was a very hot day, temperatures around 100º and the heat continued into the night, we weren't able to get into our sleeping bags until 3am. [View Full Entry]

Day 133 (Monday 31/08/09, NJJ) Sorted out all the luggage and packed it all up in readiness for our flight to Las Vegas. Had more stuff than I anticipated so we had to get rid of a few things that we didn't really need. At the airport I phoned David's Bridal in Las Vegas to book an appointment. Flight Bozeman to Denver, Colorado. Had some time in the airport before taking another flight to Vegas where we arrived at 6pm. Taxi to Excalibur Hotel. Another hotel room withen-suite bathroom, bliss and dirt cheap too. Relaxed and enjoyed the room. Went out [View Full Entry]

Had a wander around Old Trail Town - an Old Wild West town with original artefacts of the bygone era. Back to Yellowstone National Park. Saw a coyote in the distance but still no bears - this is Yellowstone and we haven't seen one! Saw loads of bison and in Mammoth Springs, an elk fest. Travelled back to Bozeman. Checked into KOA campground. We pitched the tent in the least windy spot we could find and use the car as a wind breaker [View Full Entry]

Old Trail Town
Jeramiah Johnson Grave

Day 131 (Saturday 29/08/09, NJJ) Packed up then used the camp showers, very much needed as we hadn't been able to shower since Wednesday. Saw various viewpoints of the Upper and Lower Falls of Yellowstone river, and the north and south rim of the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone. On then for the 81 mile drive to Cody, Wyoming from the east entrance of Yellowstone. Travelled through Buffalo Bill country. Scenery was different to anything we'd seen on the US part of the trip so far. Some lovely countryside which was very obviously cowboy country. Got to Cody around 2.30pm. Visitor centre [View Full Entry]

Had a great view of the Teton range in the lovely morning light. Stopped at Moose, Jenny Lake and Coulter Bay. Special K for breakfast and lunch. Back to Yellowstone through the south entrance. Stopped at a few points on the way to Canyon Village for the campground which was fully booked for the season up until yesterday. Saw a small herd of bison on [View Full Entry]
