Day 126 (Monday 24/08/09, NJJ) Packed everything up. Dropped bags off at lockers in bus station. Got the car back to the rental place bang on 12.15pm, the exact time it had to be back for phew. Lunch at a food court. You had to be there but - whilst Jamie was looking at the menu a guy who was queuing asked him 'are you ready to go?' Jay looking quite shocked said 'Where?', I struggled to contain my laughter as the guy was referring to being served but Jay responded as if he thought he wanted to take him somewhere [View Full Entry]

Day 123 (Friday 21/08/09, NJJ) Slept OK, especially considering the loud trains running all night. The creek next to our camp site was loud but that was just like white noise. As we were close to a waterway I was paranoid as usual about bears. Washed dishes then left camp. Drove from Squamish to Vancouver. Checked into Capilano RV park around 10am for the next three nights. I found out how worried Angela is about John flying out for the wedding and it really unsettled me. We were considering calling off the wedding or at least postponing it until we get [View Full Entry]

A much-needed drink

Day 122 (Thursday 20/08/09, JRJ) Loud trains again throughout the night! Up early, shower and packed up by 9:30. Had breakfast and drove to Ashcroft. Had a wander around a little museum about the gold rush and local history. It was OK. Drove onto Lillooet and stopped for lunch at a pretty picnic area. Drove onto Whistler. Had a walk around the town which was very nice. It's obvious they are preparing for the 2010 Winter Olympics. From there went to a campsite in Squamish for the night. [View Full Entry]

Day 121 (Wednesday 19/08/09, JRJ) Left camp just before 9am and drove straight to the River Safari launch again for our free return trip. Again there was no sign of bears along the shore of Mud Lake so took a trip up Mud River but still no bears! Went back to the lake and stopped at the waterfalls again. While at the waterfalls a call came through on the radio that a bear had been spotted, so we raced off to the oposite side of the lake to see the large female black bear. It was amazing to see her in [View Full Entry]

Enjoying Lunch at Eleanor Lake
Sock-Eye Salmon

Day 120 (Tuesday 18/08/09, NJJ) Saw Pyramid Lake and Patricia Lake. Drove for a few hours, stopped at Valemont but nothing of interest there so on to Blue River. Got to River Safari around 12.45pm. Did the 'safari'. Saw a bald eagle, ospreys but no bears as advertised. Had a short walk at Parberry Falls - ok. Checked into Blue River Campground. On to Eleanor Lake to relax lakeside in the sunshine, it was very hot and sunny. We left there at 4.30pm at which point it was 33º. Tent up at the campsite. Relaxed. Cooked pasta for dinner. Showers then [View Full Entry]

The lake

Lovely reflection

Day 119 (Monday 17/08/09, NJJ) Both had a good snug, bug, rug sleep. Saw fantastic scenery once again on the way to Maligne Lake. The lake was pretty but we were disappointed that the sun wasn't right for taking photographs - there is something wrong with us that we can't just appreciate the beauty of the experience in the moment. We walked around the lake shore and saw a lovely wild deer. We were desperate to see bears but at the same time for safety sake were hoping that we wouldn't and especially not near any of our campsites. Drove back [View Full Entry]

Day 118 (Sunday 16/08/09, NJJ) Started our drive to Jasper. Spent the majority of the day driving along the Icefield Parkway and stopping at various viewpoints along the way. The scenery was big and very impressive. Checked into the Whistlers National Park campground around 3.30pm. Tent up then drove into Jasper town. Had a drink and baguette at a bakery then took a walk around town. Back to camp in the evening. Pasta dinner. Shower. Bed. [View Full Entry]

Bow Lake???

Nice Rock

Day 117 (Saturday 15/08/09, NJJ) Slept OK last night although it seems as though all Canadian campgrounds are very close to train tracks - bloody trains beeping their horns as they're passing. What a fab morning though - I opened the tent to see two wild elk walking behind the tent, beautiful. Drove to Lake Louise. Special K brekkie. The lake was beautiful. Saw the Fairmont Chateau hotel. The Rockies are so majestic. We decided to take what we thought was an easy 3.4km walk to another lake, but we didn't read the sign and it was all uphill - and [View Full Entry]
