Day 198 (Tuesday 03/11/09 NJJ) Back in the UK and welcomed by heavy rain The flight landed early, at 6.30 am UK time (6 ½ hour flight). Saw James Cracknell in the line for passport control. Got our luggage from bagagge control then exited customs area just before 7.30am where we were met by our very excited Mums. On the way home we stopped at a services for breakfast. Got to Joan's around 11am to drop her off, and I wanted to see John and the house. Then on to our house. The rain was heavy for much of the journey from Heathrow but we did have a very brief spell of sun when Joyce dropped us off at our house. Day 197 (Monday 02/11/09 NJJ) Packed the last of our belongings after breakfast. Checked out of hotel at 11am. Taxi to airport. Spent most of the day sitting around at JFK airport. Day 196 (Sunday 01/11/09, NJJ) The last day of our travelling experience, and also of our honeymoon, is here. It's also New York marathon day. Up at 7.30am. Jamie had his last breakfast of bagels and cream cheese which he's been having for quite some time. Out just after 10.30am to get the subway into the city. The ticket machines were out of order and some guy was standing there offering to sell us tickets for nearly double than the original price - he was obviously the one that jammed used tickets in the payment slots. So I got my tweezers out and managed to unblocked one of the ticket machines so that we, and a few others, where then able to buy tickets. Day 195 (Saturday 31/10/09, NJJ) Up at 8.30am. Even though we are 10 floors up we can still hear the roadworks below very clearly. Nice brekkie at hotel. Left around 10am. Subway from 169th St to 57th St. Walked to stop for Uptown loop tour near Plaza Hotel. Whilst on the tour we saw where John Lennon was shot and the Seinfeld Soup Nazi location. Got off the bus at the Natural History Museum. It was free due to a Halloween celebration which turned out to be a total cutefest, there were loads of children and some parents in fancy dress with trick or treat bags. The museum was great. I especially liked the blue whale in the Milstein Hall of Ocean Life and also the dinosaur exhibit. The best outfit in the museum was a ... read more

Day 194 (Friday 30/10/09, NJJ) Lady Liberty & NYC Alarm went off at 7.30am. Breakfast in hotel.Walked to 169th St subway station. Took about 40 mins to get into the city. Got off at 47th and Rockefeller Center. Times Square first stop to get tickets at Grey Line visitors centre for th NY sightseeing tour. Got on the bus at Times Square. Did the downtown loop tour as far as Battery Park. Quick walk through Castle Clinton. Have the obligatory NY hotdogs whilst queuing for the ferry to Liberty Island. I got so excited getting close to the Statue of Liberty again. Approaching on the ferry was great but we got off and had a wander around Liberty Island. Ferry across to Ellis Island next. Day 193 (Thursday 29/10/09, NJJ) Having the room light on all night to keep the bed bugs from coming out stopped me getting much sleep last night. After packing we checked out at 11am and got on the I95 south, from Connecticut to New York. We got to our hotel in Queens around 1.30pm. Dropped our stuff off then took the card to the car return at JFK International. I think we did over 4000 miles in 27 days! Got the subway back to the hotel. Had a bite to eat at Miami Subs then back to our lovely hotel room. We had a lush Chinese takeaway then watched TV before bed at 11.30pm.... read more

Day 192 (Wednesday 28/10/09, NJJ) Had a really boring day because it was raining so much. Dragged our heels around Wal Mart in boredom and spent a fair bit of time in the room. If we were on holidays and had money to spend it would be different, we could find something to do. As we're saving ourselves for our last few days of travelling in New York then we're just waiting around for that. Had a lovely evening meal at Chili's even though we both had to run back to the restaurant just after leaving to use the bathroom. The quesadilla explosion salad we each had lived up to its name. Day 191 (Tuesday 27/10/09, NJJ) After a quick wander around a shopping mall we left Milford and went on to Branford where we checked in to a Days Inn for 2 nights. Didn't have anything to do so went to the cinema to see 'Paranormal Activity' - was ok. Had a Chinese take away, delicious. Spent the evening relaxing, watching TV, soaking in the bath etc. ... read more

Day 190 (Monday 26/10/09, NJJ) Beautiful weather thank goodness. Out for another drive to see some more beautiful countryside. Went to a shopping outlet! Didn't buy anything but we did fill up on food samplers at Le Gourmet Chef store. On to a pretty state park then stopped at another outlet mall. It's great to be travelling around but when you're on a tight budget like us at this point there's not too many options for things to do other than looked at lovely scenery or window shopping. On to Milford via New Haven and we checked into a Howard Johnson. Dinner at Friendly's next door - both had lush food followed by ice creem sundaes Back to hotel to use pool and jacuzzi. ... read more

Day 189 (Sunday 25/10/09, NJJ) I really wanted some Golden Corral flower doughnuts so we spent nearly an hour getting to the nearest one for breakfast although it should only have taken 16 minutes to get there according to Google maps. It was worth it though for the all you can eat buffet - which included the delicious glazed flower doughnuts. We were full, but not too stuffed, when we left. On to Springfield Armoury NHS. Had a wander around the museum and enjoyed the beautiful colours of the trees there. Shopping mall again. Jay dropped me off at the shops near the hotel so I could wander around iParty, Wal Mart and Dollar Tree - shopping on a non-existent budget.
